A Korean Text Input System for Elderly using Grip Type Game Controller (그립형 게임 컨트롤러를 이용한 노인용 한글 입력 시스템)

  • As an advance in medical technology development is being made, and people are increasingly aware of the importance of health, related investments and people's average life expectancy rise, which in turn leads to an increase in elderly people. Also, with a growing number of elderly people enjoying their leisure activities, the utilization of multimedia contents using computers is on the increase, leading to an activated research into the establishment of digital culture for the elderly people. This paper proposes a Korean text input system to enable the elderly to utilize digital contents. Text input interface has conventionally depended on keyboards. However, the keyboard wherein many keys are dispersed creates problems for the elderly, such as a protracted recognition of keys and a lowered concentration when they use the keyboard. To address these problems, in this paper, the grip type controller interface for console games was used and a corresponding alphabet location algorithm was developed. To verify these efforts, a simulator was developed to test 20 elderly people; as a result, their satisfaction over and convenience of using the grip type interface invreased.

Determinants of Middle Aged's Social Preparation for Later Life : Focused on Gender (중년층의 사회적 노후준비 결정요인분석: 성차를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the middle aged social preparation for later life and to explore the effect of social activities and social relationships on social preparation for later life. This research is also focused on gender differences in social activities, social relationships and social preparation for later life. The survey data was gathered from 424 middle aged citizens who live in the Gwangju & Jeonnam area, using a structured questionnaire. The statistical methods used for data analysis were descriptive statistics, cross tables, t-test, correlations, and hierarchical regression with SPSS win 18.0 program. The major findings of this study are as follows: Most of the respondents perceive an importance of social activities and social relationships. Middle aged women enjoy leisure activities such as learning and religious activity more than men. Middle aged men engage in hobby activities more than women. And most of respondents perceive they are making an effort to keep a relationship with spouses, family & friends. The results show that there are no differences in social preparation for later life between gender groups, but the variables which have an effect in social preparation for later life are different between gender groups. Social activities and Social relationships play an important role in social preparation for later life of Middle aged men and women. At the same time, Social activities and Social relationships have more positive effect on the social preparation of women. Implications of the results are discussed.

Life-styles and Factors Considered for Housing Choices for Two Co-residential Generations (세대간 라이프스타일과 주택선택시 고려요인 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to discover similarities and dissimilarities in life style and other factors for housing choices between two generations living in same household. It will provide knowledge that is helpful in understanding the two generations and develop marketing strategies for houses as a commodity that accommodates the life style of both generations. The data of this study were collected from October to November 2003, using a structured, self-report questionnaire that contains questions on 40 dimensions of life style and 33 items on housing choices. The original respondents consisted of 307 university students and their parents living in Seoul. The ages of the younger generation were limited from ぉ to 29. The final participants in this study included 224 sets of university students and their parents, that is, about 448 respondents. Frequency, percentage, factor analysis, paired t-test and means were used for data analysis. The results show that the life style may be divided into nine sub-types. There were generational differences in If-oriented lifestyle, Conservative lifestyle, As- service self-expression lifestyle, Pragmatic lifestyle, Convenience lifestyle, Self-development lifestyle, and Leisure-oriented lifestyle. Especially in the categories of Convenience lifestyle, If-oriented lifestyle and Positive Self-expression lifestyle, the younger generation ranked higher than their parents. The most important factors in housing choice may be divided into eight sub-categories. Among them are economic factors, housing amenities, housing design, distance from parents and children, social and environmental qualifies, and distance from work place and school. The two generations differed over the importance of the factors. The younger generation particularly valued the factors of distance from parents and children, housing amenities, housing design.

An Explanatory Study on Factors Affecting the Purchase of Smart Device Game Applications in the framework of Contents Characteristic Factors (콘텐츠 특성요인에 따른 스마트기기 게임 앱 구매결정에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • In this study, to analyze the factors affecting the purchase of smart device applications, research model based on AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) model was employed and derived consumers' priorities of smart device game applications in the framework of contents characteristic factors. Survey was conducted with 10 experts who are involved in the smart game industry. The empirical result showed that the most important purchasing factor was story(0.217). And fame(0.171), graphics(0.134), operability(0.111), information(0.093), difficulty(0.085), speed(0.068), characters(0.053), price(0.042), genre(0.028) are presented in order in terms of the importance. The order of consumers' preferences to smart device game application was RPG, Tycoon, action, simulation, sports/leisure, quiz/puzzle/board, etc. gamble. It suggested that under the environment of smart devices consumers could enjoy not only simple puzzle and board game but also complicated and difficult games such as RPG and tycoon game due to the development of smart devices.

  • Casual games are often have simple rule and easy to play. Like Angry birds, players can sling a bird as a bomb to destroy target. But the film adaption encounters numerous questions. games in pursuit of strong sensed presence, pay attention to experience; film stress the integrity of the story, attaches great importance to plot. However, casual games don't have story and plot. This paper take angry birds as example, analyzes the difficulties and method of adaptation from leisure mobile games to films, summarizes the key successful elements of adaption, such as subdivided the target group, chose an appropriate genre, write a script follow the basic logic and frame of film, set contradiction, complicated the character and still contain key elements of the game, in order to provide new ideas in the future development of integration of game and movie industry.

  • This study shows how financial education for middle-age affects their remaining life (economic, physical, emotional and social) and improves the way of preparing for their old age through 355 questionnaires using SPSS 18.0, factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA program. The results obtained are summarized as follows: Firstly, The importance of financial education has been differently perceived by the age, marital status, income and religion. Secondly, the necessity for early financial education and retirement preparation have been comprehended by analyzing the effects of the financial education on their old life. Thirdly, Attitude for retirement has affirmative effects on the self respect, economic stability and leisure activity.

A Study on Design for Casual Look Applying Painting Images of Henri Matisse (앙리 마티스 회화 이미지를 응용한 캐쥬얼 룩 디자인 연구)

  • People have more expectations for arts and design and accordingly, various artworks were combined with fashion to meet the consumer needs. As people live a decent life, the development of leisure activities and industry has a much effect on apparel. With this phenomenon, a free and active casual look is making progress centering around the practical apparel, pursuing diversified efficiency irrespective of a season and considering sensibility not formality. In this study, paintings of Henri Matisse were analyzed in every respect and were applied in apparel design with diverse color arrangement and a motif originating in the phenomenon of modern fashion design which leads to the integration of arts and design. Painting image and color of Henri Matisse were used. Sportive casual and cultural casual was used in design as well. Originality of its color in the paintings which were used an a motif is coming from Gauguin and Gogh. Henri had influenced to the next generation with pursuit of violent color. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. First, the color of Henri Matisse's paintings has a strong contrast effect. It combines notable violent color with a simple yet decorative motif. Therefore color from Matisse's paintings suit for apparel of marked individuality with its free color arrangement. Second, free and active image in Henri Matisse's paintings is easy to express efficiency and popularity. It accords with the feature of casual wear. Third, through adding a flowing curved line in Henri Matisse's paintings to materials and applying various colors putting into a curved line image to a rib section, a decorative effect which goes with the whole shape is obtained. This study presents possibility of emergence of unique design using free color arrangement and motif from the image of paintings and aims development of modern fashion design in accordance with modern fashion giving importance to the difference and sensibility by integration of modern garments and artworks.

A Study on Expressional Characteristics of Objets Appeared in Hotel Interior Space of Marcel Wanders (마르셀 반더스의 호텔 실내공간에 나타난 오브제의 표현특성에 관한 연구)

  • Rapid economic development has played a big role in the formation of the values of pluralism. On that account, the importance of leisure life has grown substantially, Such phenomenon has allowed people to travel more frequently. Hence, there has been a growing demand for accommodation. In particular, the number of design hotels with a stylish design has grown exponentially as compared with the conventional standardized chain hotels. As a result, a variety of objets have been utilized in hotel spaces for establishing a differentiated formativeness and offering a visual stimulus to users. An objet refers to an object of symbolic function. That is to say, it serves to increase cultural values by approaching arts in an ordinary environment. Distinctive objets are mainly expressed as new ideas by the emerging designers in Europe. In particular, Marcel Wanders designs hotel spaces on the basis of the emotional meaning and story of objets, thereby showing interesting elements. He brings human stories into a design by leveraging the expressional characteristics of an objet, such as the place, fantasy and story-telling, in hotel interior spaces. This allows users, who reject the stereotypes of modern functionalism, to have exotic memories by stimulating their instinctive senses. Furthermore, this can complete users as a part of an artwork by creating a huge artwork on the basis of hotel interior spaces. In this regard, I hope that the expressional characteristics appeared in the hotel interior spaces of Marcel Wanders can be utilized as preliminary data for planning design hotels in the future.

Development of a Practical Algorithm for Airport Ground Movement Routing (공항 지상이동 경로 탐색을 위한 실용 알고리즘 개발)

  • Motivated by continuous increase in flight demand, awareness of the importance in developing ways to increase aircraft operational efficiency on the airport movement area has been raised. This paper proposes a new routing algorithm for providing the shortest path in a right time, enhancing the aircraft movement efficiency. Many researches on developing algorithms have been performed, for example, Dijkstra algorithm and $A^*$ algorithm. The Dijkstra algorithm provide optimal solution but could possibly provide it with a cost of relatively longer computation time. On the other hand, $A^*$ algorithm does not guarantee the optimality of a solution. In this paper, we suggest a Hybrid $A^*$ algorithm, incorporating both algorithms to eliminate the weaknesses. Rigorous test shows the proposed Hybrid $A^*$ algorithm may achieve shorter computing time and optimality in searching the shortest path.

A Comparative Study on Welfare Level for the Persons with Disabilities using Multidimensional Scaling and Cluster Analysis (다차원척도법과 군집분석을 활용한 시도별 장애인복지수준 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of welfare level for the persons with disabilities in Korean local governments. The study adopted multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. Based on prior studies and comparative importance research, three indicators were extracted from the welfare circumstance index for the disabled. They are the ratio of the registered disabled population, the ratio of the disabled household in poor households, the ratio of dependence on public finance. Also, nine dimensions and twenty seven indicators were extracted from the welfare level index. The dimensions are as follows : Education, income & economic activities support, welfare services infra-structure, health & welfare service support, movement convenience & safety, rights protection, culture, leisure & information accessibility, welfare administration & budget for the disabled. The findings from the welfare circumstance index show that local governments are divided into three groups and all indicators are statistically significant. On the other hand, the findings from the welfare level index, show that local governments are divided into four groups and five indicators are statistically significant. Based on these findings, the study proposes improvement in the disabled welfare level, and balanced development of local governments.
