In this study, we collected data used to formulate the relationship between quantitative metrological parameters in CRT display and the perceived focus quality. Human perception of the focusing quality was evaluated in terms of user feedback scores regarding the character legibility from four highly trained inspectors. Thirteen CRT monitors from five different manufacturers were compared relatively with respect to the norm monitor. The profile of electron beam such as spot size and the shape of distribution made by electron beam, contrast, convergence of RGB beams, and luminance characteristics were measured using a precision measurement system. Linear regression analysis and artificial neural network models were used to formulate the relationship between human perception and the quantitative measurements. The accuracy of the formulated linear regression model ($R^2$=0.515) was not satisfactory but the nonlinear neural network model ($R^2$=0.716) was fairly convincing and robust even the utilized data included subjective differences.

Nowadays, local governments have been developing an image to represent their regions' identity. These characters contain unlimited capabilities of utilization and advertising effect that adds to their high value. However, we must consider how effectively the image helps in representing its region because some characters have been produced upon timely basis without consistent long-term planning. This study is to investigate the image and motif of the local government characters from the consumer's perspective. The results are as follows: 1)The images employed by the local governments are not highly preferred and most regions select motifs from their local agricultural products and native plants. 2)The variables that affect the character of the local governments are such as beauty, identity, etc. In conclusion, in order to maximize the local government image, one must improve the design concepts, encourage advertisement of regional festivities and travel commercialization, and advocate the identity and beauty of the local area to the residents and other regional people.

최근에 휴대 전화, 엠피쓰리 플레이어(mp3 player)등 소형기기의 사용이 점점 보편화 되고있다. 소형기기의 경우 화면이 작을수록 휴대하기 용이하다는 이점이 있는 반면에, 작은 화면의 크기로 인해 글자의 크기와 같은 정보제시법에서 제한점이 발생하는 문제점이 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 작은 화면을 오래 사용할 때 초소형 화면에서 가장 좋은 가독성을 보이는 글씨의 크기와 자간을 알아보고자 하는 것이다. $2.5{\times}3.21$cm크기의 화면에서 굴림체 8, 9, 12 point조건과 자간 -100, 0, 100%조건일 때 (포토샵 6.0기준) 에 따른 가독성을 측정하였다. 가독성은 읽기 시간, 이해도, 주관적 가독성(정확도, 읽기의 편함, 주관적 선호도)으로 평가되었다. 9point의 조건이 8point, 12point 조건에 비해서 선호되었고, 글자 크기와 가독성은 비례관계라는 이전의 연구에서 밝혀진 사실들과는 다르다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 실험 결과는 향후 작은 화면에서 정보를 제시할 때 디자인 지침으로 활용되어질 수 있다고 사려된다.

Today the Seoul metro has become the most important public transportation since opening in 1974. However, planning and design of stations, transfer systems and facilities are discorded by different companies and subway lines. Therefore, there is lack of objective design guidelines to secure legibility and safety in subway space. In this context, we aim to investigate the objective design and planing guidelines in terms of people's cognition and space use pattern. Space syntax method which enables scientific analysis is utilized to examine spatial layout considering passenger's spatial behavior. The research resulted in providing objective design and planning standards.

The constrained average method is one of dither methods which combines edge emphasis and grayscale rendition to provide legibility of textual region and proper quality of continuous tone region. How-ever, image quality of continuous tone region is insufficient compared to other dither methods, such as ordered dither methods or the error diffusion method. The constrained average method uses a uniform distribution function to decide number of lit pixels related to the average intensity in a picture area. However, actual distribution of continuous tone region is closer to the Laplacian distribution or triangle distribution. In this paper, we introduce various probability distributions and the actual luminance distribution to decide the threshold value of the constrained average method in order to improve image quality of dithered image.

This research provide the basic information to enhance the user-orientedness of usability design guidelines for software products and an effective empirical guidance to classify design attributes of internet shopping mall sites. The results of analysis show that design attributes can be classified into the procedural attribute group, the shopping tool attribute group, the visual attribute group, linguistic attribute group, and others. The results show that shopping tool attribute group can be divided further into the search tool attribute group and purchase tool attribute group and that the visual attribute group can be divided further into the screen condition attribute group and the character legibility attribute group. The research reveals that when designers design software interfaces and features they should take the compound effect of a group of design attributes into consideration to enhance the usability of the system.

In this paper, the gamma ray irradiation test results of the CCD cameras are described. From the low dose-rate (2.11 Gy/h) to the high dose-rate (150 Gy/h) level, which is the same level when the hydrogen explosion was occurred in the 1~3 reactor unit of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the monitoring performance of the cameras owing to the speckles are evaluated. The numbers of speckles, generated by gamma ray irradiation, in the image of cameras are calculated by image processing technique. And the legibility of the sensor indicator (dosimeter) owing to the numbers of the speckles is presented.

명료하게 글씨를 쓰는 능력은 글을 통한 의사소통에 필수적이다. 한글쓰기의 기존 평가들은 수기에 의한 채점 방식이기 때문에 시간이 오래 걸리고 주관적인 가능성이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 성인의 오프라인 필기체 문자를 영상처리를 통해 글자의 크기와 비율, 위치를 데이터화하고 정량화하여 보다 객관적이고 정확하게 쓰기 수행을 평가하고 기준을 확립하고자 하였다. 필기체 문자 영상처리 분석 결과, 높이가 폭에 비해 약 1.2배 크며 글자가 왼쪽 아래로 치우치는 경향을 보였다. 본 연구는 향후 한글의 필기 특징에 대한 기초자료가 될 것이라 사료된다.

본 논문에서는 작은 크기의 한글 디지털 글자디자인의 형태 개발을 위한 기초 연구를 제안한다. 이 제안은 모든 디지털 디바이스에서 사용하고 있는 작은 크기의 한글 디지털 글자디자인의 판독성(Legibility)과 가독성(Readability) 향상시킨다. 또한, 디지털 디바이스에서 작은 크기의 한글을 읽을 때 우리 눈의 피로도를 덜어주고 보기 편안한 글자디자인의 기본 방향을 제시한다. 본 논문에서는 제안하는 한글 디지털 폰트는 기존 구글 폰트인 Noto Sans Korean 디지털 폰트를 기반으로 작은 크기 한글 글자디자인을 제안하였다. 작은 크기의 글자디자인 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 기존 한글 디지털 폰트의 비례보다 첫째, 제안하는 글자의 비례가 넓어지고. 둘째, 글자의 획 두께가 두꺼워지며, 셋째, 글자 돌기의 크기가 증가하고, 넷째, 글자의 여백이 증가해야 한다.

목적: 본 연구는 60대 이상의 노년층을 대상으로 착색안경렌즈의 처방이 시력교정의 질에 미치는 영향을 평가하고 가장 효과적인 착색렌즈의 색상을 제시하고자 하였다. 방법: 60대 이상(평균 $71.0{\pm}6.3$세)의 50명(남17, 여33)을 대상으로 원거리 시력이 0.5 이상이 되도록 시험테를 이용하여 교정한 후 무착색, 브라운착색 및 그레이착색렌즈를 덧댐하였다. 각각 착색안경렌즈 덧댐 시의 시력은 원거리 최소가독시력 및 최소분리시력을 측정한 후 LogMAR 시력으로 환산하여 비교하였으며, 시기능은 근거리 입체시와 대비감도를 측정하여 비교하였다. 또한 대상자들의 착색안경렌즈 선호도와 시지각 및 움직임에 대한 자각증상을 설문조사하였다. 결과: 원거리 최소가독시력과 최소분리시력은 무착색렌즈의 사용 시 가장 좋았으며, 브라운착색 및 그레이착색렌즈 순으로 나타났다. 근거리 입체시, 대비감도 및 시지각은 브라운착색렌즈의 사용 시 가장 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 자각적 불편감은 그레이착색렌즈 착용 시 가장 크게 나타났으며, 대상자가 선호하는 안경렌즈는 브라운착색렌즈로 조사되었다. 결론: 이상의 결과로 착색안경렌즈의 사용으로 노년층의 시력과 시기능이 개선될 수 있으나, 시력 및 시기능의 변화가 자각적 만족도와는 반드시 일치하는 것은 아님을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과, 1,000 lux정도의 조도에서는 원거리 시생활이 보편화된 노년층에게는 무착색 및 브라운착색렌즈의 사용을, 근거리 작업이 많은 경우에는 브라운 및 그레이착색렌즈의 사용을 제안할 수 있겠다.
