  • The aim of this study is to show that using a Web-Based Instruction system is a better method to help counteract deficient teaching, learning conditions and facilities thus improving the students' interest, understanding, participation and skill development in Physical Education. The key findings of this study are as follows; The first advantage of using this system is that the theory of Softball is explained with the use of pictures rather than text, thus improving the students' understanding. The second is the method in which practical skills are explained and demonstrated. Action image sequences are used as opposed to the old method of using stationary pictures. This means that the learners can clearly see and understand why and, more importantly, how to use these skills. The third advantage is the technique used to teach the application of these skills. Using active rather than passive learning and thus engaging the student encourages improved participation and learning. The fourth advantage comes in evaluation: both subjective and objective questions are asked in theoretical evaluation, and the teachers can evaluate the students' understanding and skill development by filming their actual Softball games. Emotional Evaluation of Adolescents for Learning Spaces Design in Apartment Complex Community Facilities (공동주택 커뮤니티시설 내 학습공간 디자인을 위한 청소년 감성평가)

  • This study aims to determine adolescents' emotional response and preferences for varying interior designs of learning spaces available at community facilities in apartment across Seoul. In particular, the subjects have been fragmented by gender and age for comparative analysis of emotional responses across different demographics of adolescents. A survey on the preferred designs of learning spaces in community facilities revealed that 'elegant,' 'cheerful,' and 'temperate' are the three main emotional words selected for image tool development. Emotional assessment verified the validity of these terms. Between the two genders, adolescent males preferred 'temperate' images more while adolescent females preferred 'cheerful.' In terms of the design of learning space, adolescent females deemed the interior atmosphere and area space to be the most important factors, while adolescent males pointed to the color of furniture and lighting to be the most important. Such results imply that there is a clear difference of emotional response between adolescent males and females. The results also imply that different atmospheres and design priorities must be considered when designing gender-specific spaces.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence and SW have occupied an important position worldwide as the foundation technology of the era of the 4th industrial revolution, and web browser-based programming learning systems are becoming common due to changes in the learning environment caused by COVID-19. In accordance with this trend, this paper proposes a functionally scalable microservice-based system structure for an online evaluation system as a tool for learning algorithms that are the basis of artificial intelligence and SW. In addition, a functional structure for applying machine learning to automatic evaluation functions under the proposed system structure is also proposed.

Morphological analysis of virtual teeth generated by deep learning (딥러닝으로 생성된 가상 치아의 형태학적 분석 연구)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to generate virtual mandibular first molars using deep learning technology, specifically deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN), and evaluate the accuracy and reliability of these virtual teeth by analyzing their morphological characteristics. These morphological characteristics were classified based on various evaluation criteria, facilitating the assessment of deep learning-based dental prosthesis production's practical applicability. Methods: Based on our previous research, 1,000 virtual mandibular first molars were generated, and based on morphological criteria, categorized as matching, non-matching, and partially matching. The generated first molars or the categorization of the generated molars were analyzed through the expert judgment of dental technicians. Results: Among the 1,000 generated virtual teeth, 143 (14.3%) met all five evaluation criteria, whereas 76 (7.6%) were judged as completely non-matching. The most frequent issue, with 781 (78.1%) instances, including some overlapping instances, was related to occlusal buccal cusp discrepancies. Conclusion: The study reveals the potential of DCGAN-generated virtual teeth as substitutes for real teeth; however, additional research and improvements in data quality are necessary to enhance accuracy. Continued data collection and refinement of generation methods can maximize the practicality and utility of deep learning-based dental prosthesis production.

Developing a Teaching-Learning Model for Flipped Learning for Institutes of Technology and a Case of Operation of a Subject (공과대학의 Flipped Learning 교수학습 모형 개발 및 교과운영사례)

  • Recently, there has been an increasing interest in 'Flipped Learning,' an IT-based learner-centered teaching-learning method corresponding to meet the paradigm of the future education. For smooth Flipped Learning, there are three steps in total: a pre-class should precede; then, in the structure of classes in the classroom, in-class learning among peer learners should be done; and lastly, the operation of a post-class should be done. For successful Flipped Learning, class elements in each step should be designed with a time difference, interconnected so as to achieve a single educational objective. However, it was found that there was a limitation in that the teaching-learning model of the preceding Flipped Learning consisted of the order of analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation as general procedures, so it would not sufficiently consider the situations of Flipped Learning only. On this background, this thesis proposes a differentiated Flipped Learning model for mastery learning in a subject of an institute of technology as a model of systematic instructional design and presents a case of a class applied to an actual subject of computer engineering.

Web Hypermedia Resources Reuse and Integration for On-Demand M-Learning

  • The development of systems that can generate automatically instructional material is a challenging goal for the e-learning community. These systems pave the way towards large scale e-learning deployment as they produce instruction on-demand for users requesting to learn about any topic, anywhere and anytime. However, realizing such systems is possible with the availability of vast repositories of web information in different formats that can be searched, reused and integrated into information-rich environments for interactive learning. This paradigm of learning relieves instructors from the tedious authoring task, making them focusing more on the design and quality of instruction. This paper presents a mobile learning system (Mole) that supports the generation of instructional material in M-Learning (Mobile Learning) contexts, by reusing and integrating heterogeneous hypermedia web resources. Mole uses open hypermedia repositories to build a Learning Web and to generate learning objects including various hypermedia resources that are adapted to the user context. Learning is delivered through a nice graphical user interface allowing the user to navigate conveniently while building their own learning path. A test case scenario illustrating Mole is presented along with a system evaluation which shows that in 90% of the cases Mole was able to generate learning objects that are related to the user query.

Machine Learning-based model for predicting changes in user evaluation reflecting the period of the product (제품 사용 기간을 반영한 기계학습 기반 사용자 평가 변화 예측 모델)

  • With the recent expansion of the commerce ecosystem, a large number of user evaluations have been produced. Accordingly, attempts to create business insights using user evaluation data have been actively made. However, since user evaluation can change after the user experiences the product, it is difficult to say that the analysis based only on reviews immediately after purchase fully reflects the user's evaluation of the product. Moreover, studies conducted so far on user evaluation have overlooked the fact that the length of time a user has used a product can affect the user's product evaluation. Therefore, in this study, we build a model that predicts the direction of change in the user's rating after use from the user's rating and reviews immediately after purchase. In particular, the proposed model reflects the product's period of use in predicting the change direction of the star rating. However, since the posterior information on the duration of product use cannot be used as input in the inference process, we propose a structure that utilizes information about the product's period of use using an auxiliary classifier. As a result of an experiment using 599,889 user evaluation data collected from the shopping platform 'N' company, we confirmed that the proposed model performed better than the existing model in terms of accuracy.

Establishing and Operating Cohort Evaluation at Kosin University College of Medicine (고신대학교 의과대학 코호트 구축과 운영 사례)

  • Multiple cohorts (e.g., current students and graduates) were formed to collect information on the entire educational process from admission to graduation regarding students' educational performances at Kosin University College of Medicine. Data that had already been collected and analyzed by different committees for different purposes were grouped into a more systematic and comprehensive system called the cohort system, enabling the necessary data to be collected promptly and analyzed in accordance with the purpose of providing meaningful information in each area of the educational process. Therefore, comprehensive cohort data that can be used for mission statement revision, curriculum development and improvement, student counseling, and student selection were established and utilized. The cohort data were collected from performance evaluation indicators including self-evaluation surveys, evaluation tools for learning outcomes, academic achievement, results of the Korean Medical Licensing Examination, and career placement. Based on the results obtained by analyzing cohort data, a comprehensive cohort report has been published. The data analyzed through the cohort were reported to each committee and used in various ways. Currently, however, only some data have been analyzed and used. In the future, after complete data collection, the cohort data can be used as meaningful basic data for achieving the institution's mission and educational goals, developing and improving the curriculum, counseling students, and selecting students through the analysis of learning performance data from student admission to graduation and after graduation.

A Study on the Evaluation Factors of Teaching Learning in the Planning of Cultural Contents by Using PBL (PBL 접목한 문화콘텐츠 기획의 교수학습 평가 요소 연구)

  • This study sought to explore the enhancement of the introduction of teaching and learning methods for Problem Based Learning (PBL) and the evaluation factors to evaluate them effectively through an understanding lecture in Cultural Content Planning. It was intended to incorporate a practical zero-volume education methodology of problem-oriented learning and sufficient leading learning to reflect storytelling in the entire process of completing a cultural content with culture, cultural content, and content planning. To this end, the role of teaching methods should be faithful to ensure that teamwork and cooperation can be done organically according to the educational field, practice and situation. Students who take classes were asked to meet demand, reflect it through surveys, apply real-world problems, and acquire the entire course. Learners had to cooperate with each other until planning cultural content and completing the results through classes, and they evaluated themselves and colleagues in teamwork until the last result was completed from creative ideas. The results were shared together and the students were able to investigate the necessary PBL evaluation factors for themselves, and the prior research and survey on the method of PBL evaluation was conducted to derive the factors of understanding of cultural content planning. The derived assessment elements were able to identify priorities between the assessment elements using basic statistics, word cloud analysis, and AHP analysis. The components of the assessment derived were communication skills, basic knowledge, reasoning process, expertise, and evaluation techniques. Through this article, I was able to lead the understanding of cultural content planning to problem-oriented learning classes and encourage students to be familiar and smooth.
