  • Dielectrically filled parallel-plate waveguide with finite number of periodic slots in its upper plate as a leaky wave antenna is analysed for E-polarization case. The integro-differential equation whose unknown is the slot equivalent magnetic current over the slot is formulated and solved by use of Galerkin's method. From knowledge of the equivalent magnetic current, the propagation constant and radiation pattern for the finite periodic structure are determined and compared with the results of the infinite case. Good correspondence between them is observed.

  • Periodically slotted dielectricalloy filled parallel-plate waveguide as a leaky wave antenna is designed and fabricated at the center frequency of 10.0GHz. The antenna was fed by use of a hog-horn structure. The hog-horn and the two side walls and the lower plate of parallel-plate waveguide were fabricated form duralumin. The upper plate of parallel-plate waveguide with 48 periodic slots was made of copper plate of 1mm thickness. The dielectric material inside the parallel-plate waveguide was chosen to be paraffin. The experimental radiation pattern for the fbricated antenna was compared with the theoretical results for the finite periodic structure.

  • The radiation characteristics of leaky wave emanated from finite strip-grating loaded dielectric coated coaxial waveguide with finite periodic thick slots are investigated theoretically. The rigorous integral equations are derived for the proposed structure using the courier transform, mode expansion, and sine series expansion of the electric current on metallic strips, and the simultaneous linear equations are obtained. The effects of finite strip-grating loading on a dielectric-coated coaxial waveguide with finite periodic thick slots are examined in terms of radiation characteristics.

  • ATM, the core technology of BISDN, provides a high degree of flexibility with regard to varying bandwidth requirements for different services. In ATM networks, since users may exceed the traffic volume negotiated at the call setup, traffic from users may need to be monitored and enforced to comply with traffic parameters. The leakybucket mechanism is one of the typical traffic enforcement methods based on the use of transmission tokens for each cell. In this mechanism the major system parameters are size of input buffer, size of token pool, and token generation ratio. In order to represent ATM cell arrivals we assume a Poisson process. In this paper, a state transition analysis technique is used to study the cell loss rates for various values of system parameters.

  • Some applications require structural health monitoring in inaccessible components. This paper presents a technique useful for Structural Health Monitoring of double wall structures, such as double wall steam pipes and double wall pressure vessels separated from an ultrasonic transducer by three layers. Detection has been demonstrated at distances in excess of one meter for a fixed transducer. The case presented here is for one of the layers, the middle layer, being a fluid. For certain transducer configurations the wave propagating in the fluid is a wave with low velocity and attenuation. The paper presents a model based on wave theory and finite element simulation; the experimental set-up and observations, and comparison between theory and experiment. The results provide a description of the technique, understanding of the phenomenon and its possible applications in Structural Health Monitoring.

  • We analyze the queueing model for leaky bucket (LB) scheme with dynamic arrivals and token rates. In other words, in our LB scheme the arrivals and token rates are changed according to the buffer occupancy. In telecommunication networks, the LB scheme has been used as a policing function to prevent congestion. By considering bursty and correlated properties of input traffic, the arrivals are assumed to follow a Markov-modulated Poisson process (MMPP). We derive the distribution of system state, and obtain the loss probability and the mean waiting time. The analysis is done by using the embedded Markov chain and supplementary variable method. We also present some numerical examples to show the effect of our proposed model.

즉, Leaky, constant head boundary, no flow boundary 등을 고려해야 한다.

  • In this paper, a temporally adaptive layered image sequence coding technique employing H.261 is proposed. In the proposed technique, the frame rate of the base layer is adjusted according to the temporal activity measure based on the rate-distortion function. The base layer is encoded using the H.261. Then, the full frame-rate error image is formed by comparing the original image and the interpolated version of the reconstructed base layer image. The enhancement layer is algo encoded using H.261 but with leaky prdiction to provide robust error resilience. The simulation results show that the proposed technique provides better performance than the twin-H.261 with leaky prediction in both the fixed-rate and variable-rate systems.

  • Circular slab waveguides are conformally mapped into straight waveguides. In the outer cladding region with monotonically increasing index profile, modified Airy functions (MAF) of traveling-wave form are introduced to express the leaky mode. Field distributions and losses calculated by the proposed method are compared with those obtained by the WKB (Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin) method. Detailed numerical examples are presented and compared with the conventional WKB methods, demonstrating our method not only allows a converging field at turning points but also guarantees fine accuracy.

  • Optical resonances of metallic or dielectric nanoantennas enable to effectively convert free-propagating electromagnetic waves to localized electromagnetic fields and vice versa. Plasmonic resonances of metal nanoantennas extremely modify the local density of optical states beyond the optical diffraction limit and thus facilitate highly-efficient light-emitting, nonlinear signal conversion, photovoltaics, and optical trapping. The leaky-mode resonances, or termed Mie resonances, allow dielectric nanoantennas to have a compact size even less than the wavelength scale. The dielectric nanoantennas exhibiting low optical losses and supporting both electric and magnetic resonances provide an alternative to their metallic counterparts. To extend the utility of metal and dielectric nanoantennas in further applications, e.g. metasurfaces and metamaterials, it is required to understand and engineer their scattering characteristics. At first, we characterize resonant plasmonic antenna radiations of a single-crystalline Ag nanowire over a wide spectral range from visible to near infrared regions. Dark-field optical microscope and direct far-field scanning measurements successfully identify the FP resonances and mode matching conditions of the antenna radiation, and reveal the mutual relation between the SPP dispersion and the far-field antenna radiation. Secondly, we perform a systematical study on resonant scattering properties of high-refractive-index dielectric nanoantennas. In this research, we examined Si nanoblock and electron-beam induced deposition (EBID) carbonaceous nanorod structures. Scattering spectra of the transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) leaky-mode resonances are measured by dark-field microscope spectroscopy. The leaky-mode resonances result a large scattering cross section approaching the theoretical single-channel scattering limit, and their wide tuning ranges enable vivid structural color generation over the full visible spectrum range from blue to green, yellow, and red. In particular, the lowest-order TM01 mode overcomes the diffraction limit. The finite-difference time-domain method and modal dispersion model successfully reproduce the experimental results.
