  • The directory-based cache coherence scheme is an attractive approach to solve the caceh coherence problem in a large-scale shared-memory multiprocessor. However, the exsting directory-based schemes have some problens such as the enormous storage overhead for a directory, the long invalidation latency, the heavy network condes-tion, and the low scalability. For resolving these problems, we propose a new directroy- based caceh coherence scheme which is suitable for building scalable, shred-memory multiprocessors. In this scheme, each directory en-try ofr a given memory block is a number-balanced binaty tree(NBBT) stucture. The NBBT has several proper-ties to effciently maintain the directory for the cache consistency such that the shape is unique, the maximum depth is [log$_2$n], and the tree has the minimum number of leaf nodes among the binarry tree with n nodes. Therefore, this scheme can reduce the storage overhead, the network traffic, and the inbalidation latency and can ensutr the high- scalability the large-scale shared-memory multiprocessors.

  • Phytophagous insects of Monocotyledoneae were surveyed from May to October in 1991. Each p province was divided into 9 localities by $\boxplus$-shape for the collection. Seventeen weed species b belonging to 17 genera were collected, namely, 14 Graminales weed species of 14 genera, 1 s species of Farinales weed, and 1 species of Liliales weed. Phytophagous insects representing 5 orders, 13 families, 27 genera, and 36 species comprised the insect fauna on Monocotyledoneae w weeds. Five species were not identified out of 36 insect species. Grasshoppers, hemipteran, s scarab beetles, and leaf beetles were frequently collected. Lema concinnipennis was a potential biological agent on Commelina communis, and Oulema dilutipes was first collected from Setaria u viridis. Commelina communis in golf course was severely damaged by Adoretus tenuimacu/atus c chafer but this insect was also an important insect pest of turfgrass and trees.

  • Examined were the vegetative and reproductive characters such as external morphology, anatomy (leaf petiole, blade and stem), pollen and nutlet for the taxonomic revision of Elsholtzia in Korea. The inflorescence of all studied taxa of Elsholtzia in Korea is secund and 0.5-10 cm long. Leaves are ovate or nearly and $0.2-10{\times}0.2-6.0cm$. The shapes of inflorescence and leaves are very useful taxonomic characters. The stomata types are anomocytic and diacytic. The morphology of nutlet is ovoid and pitted in surface pattern of exocarp. All studied taxa are myxocarpy. The pollen grains are of medium size and subprolate in shape, and have typical bi-reticulate exine surface. Four species are recognized for Korean Elsholtzia by the identification key and descriptions in this study.

  • We report an unrecorded species of the genus Sorbaria (Rosaceae) in Korea, namely Sorbaria kirilowii (Regel & Tiling) Maxim. This plant was discovered both on Pocheon-si, Naecheon-myeon and Yeoju-gun, Buknae-myeon in Gyeonggi Province. It is distinguishable from Sorbaria sorbifolia (L.) A. Braun var. stellipila Maxim. by characteristics such as presence of hair on leaf and rachis, morphology of inflorescence, length and width of petal, shape of sepal, number and length of stamens, presence of hair upon and size of follicles. This taxon was given the Korean common name 'Jom-swi-ttang-na-mu' based on the small size of floral characters.

  • Capparis pubifolia B. S. Sun is reported here as a new addition to the flora of Vietnam. It is morphologically allied to C. sikkimensis Kurz but differs due to the gray-yellow color of the hair of the twigs, having more secondary veins on the leaf, trichomes on both surfaces of the petal, and a globose shape of the fruit. Thus far, it was only reported in the Guangxi and Yunnan areas of China. A description, a line drawing and color photographs are provided for species identification. Furthermore, a comparison of the diagnostic characters with those of related species is made.

  • Spore morphology of 14 species of Ophioglossaceae is examined, and descriptions and key based on spore morphology are provided. In addition, spores of one species of Angiopteris and three species of Osmunda are examined for comparision with those of Ophioglossaceae. Spore shape at proximal face is sub triangular or triquete in Botrychium and circular in Ophiog~ lossum, Angiopteris and Osmunda. Based on the wall sculpturing patterns, three groups can be recognized within Botrychium, and the differences of wall sculpturing among these groups are smaller as compared to those among Botrychium, Ophioglossum, Osmunda and Angiopteris. This result supports the previous infrafamilial system of Clausen, which was mainly based on the characteristics of vernation, habit, fertile and sterile segments of the leaf, and gametophyte. Spores of nine species of Ophioglossum, which are circular in proximal face and fossulate or foveolate in wall sculpturing, are quite uniform as compared to those of Botrychium. Therefore they should be kept under a single genus rather than split into four genera suggested by Nishida (1952).(1952).

  • This study investigated the effect of planting density on growth and yield of elephant garlic. Three planting densities of 20 × 20, 20 × 15, and 20 × 10 ㎝ were tested with the furrow width fixed at 120 ㎝ for the evaluation of elephant galic growth and yield. The average date of emergence was middle and late November, requiring about 30 days for the all emergence. For the flowering, 221 days after sowing were required in all the treatments. Plant height and leaf growth were not significantly different according to the planting density. Flower stalk was shorter when planting density was narrow. The L/D ratio was decreased to form oval shape when planting density was narrow. The yield of elephant garlic was 1,811 ㎏ /10a in planting density 20 × 20 ㎝, 2,375 ㎏/10a in 20 × 15 ㎝, and 2,838 ㎏/10a in 20 × 10 ㎝ plot. The marketable garlic ratio was highest as 1,593 ㎏/10a in planting density of 20 × 15 ㎝.

  • The study was carried out to investigate dissipation pattern of pesticide residue in/on different varieties of lettuce applied with foliar spraying under greenhouse. The initial deposited amount of alpha-cypermethrin and imidacloprid in/on the crop was entirely corresponded with shape of the crop. Dissipation of deposited pesticide residue was supposed to be related with degradation by sunlight and wash off by watering rather than dilution effect by biomass increase. The crop grouping in leaf vegetables has to be carefully considered even in lettuce for dissipation pattern of pesticide residue; head type and leafy type.

  • Lacquerware of Goryeo period was variously developed from the early 10th century to the 14th century and became lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl which shows creativity with splendid heyday. For characteristics, splendid and close mother-of-pearl. Characteristic of decoration method is to use gold painting method, Tortoise shell and metal line. Drawing is done with gold dust and gold painting method decorating lacquerware are very splendid from an artistic and decorative aspect, but gold painting is easily lost. So, it's currently difficult to find in relics succeeded. Therefore, there are domestically insufficient studies on gold painting method in Goryeo period, so this researcher intended to observe gold painting of lacquerware excavated in Goryeo period through the microscope, investigate characteristics, mixture, etc. of gold dust and provide data of studies on the recovery of ancient technology. As the result, gold dust particle has various shapes such as irregular square, polygon and triangle under the size from 2 ㎛ to 20 ㎛. The end of gold dust is rolled and overlapped and irregular particle seems to be similar to the shape of crumpled paper. This research showed that gold dust used in gold painting of Goryeo period had used gold dust made by grinding gold leaf to gold painting.

  • The argE gene of E.coli was introduced into #Ilmibyeo# cultivar of rice by Agrobacterium tumefaciens and a large number of transgenic plants were produced. Embryogenic calli were co-cultivated with A. tumefaciens strain AGL1 carrying the plasmid pCAMBIA1300 containing hygromycin resistance(HygR). Transgenic plants showing in vitro resistance to 50mg/L hygromycin were obtained using a selection procedure. Stable integration of argE and HPT genes into chromosomal DNA was proven by southern blot analysis and PCR analysis of genomic isolated from $T_0$ progenies. The fragments of 650 bp(HPT) were detected in transgenic rice lines. The 230 bp(argE) fragments were showed in agarose gel, and detected fragments were matched with size of argE specific primer. The microscopic feature of leaf on scanning electron microscope(SEM) revealed differences between clear and chalky in shape and arrangement of stoma but did not discriminate.
