The uniquely large dimensions of Giant radio galaxies (GRGs) make it possible to probe for stringent limits on total energy content, Faraday rotation, Alfven speeds, particle transport and radiation loss times. All of these quantities are more stringently limited or specified for GRG's than in more 'normal' FRII radio sources. I discuss how both global and detailed analyses of GRG's lead to constraints on the CR electron acceleration mechanisms in GRG's and by extension in all FRII radio sources. The properties of GRG's appear to rule out large scale Fermi-type shock acceleration. The plasma parameters in these systems set up conditions that are favorable for magnetic reconnection, or some other very efficient process of conversion of magnetic to particle energy. We conclude that whatever mechanism operates in GRG's is probably the primary extragalactic CR acceleration mechanism in the Universe.
This paper summarizes the results of a study which has quantified the evolution of the structure of sands adjacent to geomembranes of varying roughness at different stages of shearing. The results show that the structure evolution, and hence shear mechanisms for rounded uniform sands adjacent to geomembranes, are directly influenced by the surface roughness of the geomembranes. For smooth geomembranes, the shear mechanism predominantly involves sliding of sand particles and only affects the sand structure within two particle diameters of the geomembrane. For slightly textured geomembranes, the effects of interlocking and dilation of sand particles extends the zone of evolution to four particles diameters from the interface. For moderately/heavily textured geomembranes, the interlocking and dilation of sand particles is fully developed and results in large dilation in the interfacial zone, which extends up to six particle diameters from the interface. By understanding how the structure of the sand adjacent to geomembranes of different roughness changes during shearing, it may be possible to identify alternative geomembrane roughening procedures and patterns that can lead to more efficient interface designs.
Actual trends in automotive industry lead to an increase use of lightweight structures imposing the need for high strength aluminum alloys with complex shape. In the electromagnetic stirring process, it has many merits which are the exact control ability about material processing and a good point of the protection of environment comparison with the mechanical stirring. The interface of cells consisting of primary particle formed by the electromagnetic stirring due to particle regrowth during cooling the alloy. By electromagnetic stirring process, the microstructure of material has a good point, also it can control the material processing exactly.
A dynamic model for hydrogen generation by Fuel-Coolant Interactions(FCI) is developed with separate models for each FCI stage, coarse mixing and stratification. The model includes the physical concept of FCI, semi-empirical heat and mass transfer correlation and the concentration diffusion equation with the general non-zero boundary condition. The calculated amount of hydrogen, which is mainly generated in stratification, is compared with the FITS experiments. The model developed in this study shows a good agreement within a range of 10 % fuel oxidation rate and predicts the controlled mechanism of the chemical reaction very well. And this model predicts more accurately than the previous works. It is shown from the sensitivity study that the higher initial temperature of fuel particle is, the larger the reaction rate is. Up to 2700 K of temperature of the particle, the reaction rate increases rapid, which can lead to metal ignition.
A neutral particle beam(NPB) aimed at the object and receive a small number of neutron signals at the detector to estimate the mass of an object Since there is uncertainty about the location of the axis of the beam relative to the object, we could have aiming errors which may lead to incorrect information about the object. Under the two assumptions that neutral particle scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular normal distribution respectively, we have derived an exact probability distribution of neutral particles. It becomes a Poison-power function distribution., We proved monotone likelihood ratio property of tlis distribution. This property can be used to find a criteria for the hypothesis testing problem.
Both motion of free metallic particles from which most GIS internal failures are caused and partial discharges from the particles were examined using EHV GIS test chamber. Effects from particle length and gas pressure which are main factors to lead to breakdown failure were investigated theoretically and experimentally. Magnitude of both lift-off voltage and partial discharge inception voltage were measured respectively and, through these measurements, this paper showed the possibility of predicting breakdown fault and of taking action to prevent the fault in advance. The measurement of partial discharge when the particles began to move could be adopted to decide minimum sensitivity in developing predictive diagnostic equipments. Both the amount of apparent discharge and real discharge in GIS were examined theoretically and experimentally, then experimental results were analyzed on the basis of the theory.

This paper addresses a formation navigation issue for a group of mobile robots passing through an environment with either static or moving obstacles meanwhile keeping a fixed formation shape. Based on Lyapunov function and graph theory, a NN formation control is proposed, which guarantees to maintain a formation if the formation pattern is $C^k,\;k\geq1$. In the process of navigation, the leader can generate a proper trajectory to lead formation and avoid moving obstacles according to the obtained information. An evolutionary computational technique using particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed for motion planning so that the formation is kept as $C^1$ function. The simulation results demonstrate that this algorithm is effective and the experimental studies validate the formation ability of the multiple mobile robots system.
Solder paste plays a crucial role as the widely used joining material in surface mount technology (SMT). The understanding of its behaviour and properties is essential to ensure the proper functioning of the electronic assemblies. The composition of the solder paste is known to be directly related to its rheological behaviour. This paper provides a brief overview of the solder paste behaviour of four different solder paste formulations, stencil printing processes, and techniques to characterize solder paste behaviour adequately. The solder pastes are based on the Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu alloy, are different in their particle size, metal content and flux system. The solder pastes are characterized in terms of solder particle size and shape as well as the rheological characterizations such as oscillatory sweep tests, viscosity, and creep recovery behaviour of pastes.
