Plasma display panel is a potential candidate for HDTV, due to the fact that the screen size can easily be increased by a thick film technology. In this study, transparent dielectric materials which satisfied the requirements of dielectrics for PDP was developed using lead alumina borosilicate glasses. The Paste which had thixotropic behavior suitable for screen printing was made of this glass composition. the paste became more thixotropic as the particle size decreased. After firing, the cross sectional area of the thick film was analyzed by SEM. The voids in the thick film were removed using bimodal particle system. The dielectric thick film showed good adhesion characteristics.

We have developed new materials that lead to methyl meth acrylate monomer and styrene monomer to using polymerization method. The materials have a powder form and show liquid behavior. We call the "Electronic Bead". An our experiment, a positive-charged particle has $TiO_2$, polymer and CCA(-), while a negative-charged particle consists of carbon black, polymer and CCA(+). The charged particles have electrical characteristic of white -10 uC/g and black 10 uC/g, respectively. Also, these particles have good fluidity by additive of nano-sized silica. Using these materials, we demonstrated prototype displays that have $320{\times}320$ array of pixels and 6-in-diagonal viewable image size, driven by passive-matrix addressing. The reflectivity shows about 30% even though our experiment is at the beginning point. Also, the panel has contrast ratio 6:1. We think there are many chances to improve reflectivity through modifying components of particle resin, mixture ratio of each particle, panel structure and so on.

Rapid development of cities with constant increasing load and deregulation in electricity market had forced the transmission lines to operate near their threshold capacity and can easily lead to voltage instability and caused system breakdown. To prevent such catastrophe from happening, accurate readings of voltage stability condition is required so that preventive equipment and operators can execute security procedures to restore system condition to normal. This paper introduced Enhanced Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm to estimate the voltage stability condition which utilized Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) to indicate how far or close is the power system network to the collapse point when the reactive load in the system increases because reactive load gives the highest impact to the stability of the system as it varies. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) had been combined with the ANN to form the Enhanced Hybrid PSO-ANN (EHPSO-ANN) algorithm that worked accurately as a prediction algorithm. The proposed algorithm reduced serious local minima convergence of ANN but also maintaining the fast convergence speed of PSO. The results show that the hybrid algorithm has greater prediction accuracy than those comparing algorithms. High generalization ability was found in the proposed algorithm.

Laser-induced plume and laser-target interaction during pulsed laser deposition are demonstrated for a lead zirconate titanate (PZT). A KrF excimer laser (wavelength 248nm) was used and the laser was pulsed at 20Hz, with nominal pulse width of 20ns. The laser fluence was~$16J/cm^2,$ with 100mJ per pulse. The laser-induced plasma plume for nanosecond laser irradiation on PZT target has been investigated by optical emission spectra using an optical multichannel analyzer(OMA) and by direct observation of the plume using an ICCD high speed photography. OMA analysis showed two distinct ionic species with different expansion velocities of fast or slow according to their ionization states. The ion velocity of the front surface of the developing plume was about $10^7$cm/sec and corresponding kinetic energy was about 100eV. ICCD photograph showed another kind of even slower moving particles ejected from the target. These particles considered expelled molten parts of the target. SEM morphologies of the laser irradiated targets showed drastic melting and material removal by the laser pulse, and also showed the evidence of the molten particle ejection. The physics of the plasma(plume) formation and particle ejection has been discussed.

In Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, there are not only power plants and large steel complexes, but also small and medium-sized air pollutant emission facilities. The dust generated by these facilities has a very small particle size and a large surface area due to condensation and physical and chemical reactions, and is discharged containing various harmful substances. Therefore, this study analyzed the distribution of particulate matter and heavy metal concentrations by particle size in the vicinity of the steel complex, residential area, and reference point using an eight-stage Cascade Impactor. Overall, the direct impact sites with a short distance from the steel complex had the highest concentration, followed by the indirect impact sites, and the non-impact sites had the lowest concentration, indicating that they are directly affected by the steel complex. The atmospheric dust concentration distribution showed a bimodal distribution with a minimum value around the 1.1 to 2.1 ㎛ particle diameter. However, during the yellow dust event, the maximum concentration was biased toward coarse particles. The proportion of PM2.5 in the dust tended to be higher in winter, while the ratio between PM2.5 and PM10 was relatively higher in spring. Regardless of the location of the impact point, heavy metals in the dust were dominated by iron and aluminum, followed by zinc, lead, and manganese.
In this study, the morphology and the x-ray quantum efficient of mercury oxide (HgO) and lead oxide (PbO) sensors derived by particle sedimentation method were discussed. In the pursuit of this purpose, we investigated the electrical characteristics and the x-ray quantum efficiency of various thicknesses of HgO and PbO films in mammographic x-ray energy. We have therefore developed a particle-in-binder sedimentation method of fabricating large area polycrystalline films onto transparent glass substrates coated with indium tin oxide. We are currently optimizing the growth method to improve the quantum efficiency with the ultimate goal of obtaining as quantum efficiency close to that of single crystal performance. Our future efforts will concentrate on optimization of large area film growth techniques specifically for deposition on a-Si:H flat panel readout arrays.

An electroplating on the lead frame fabricated from domestic copper plate was studied experimentally. In this study, nickel was plated on the thin copper lead frame and silver layer was coated on the nickel film in the cyanide electrolyte. The effect of process variables such as current density, plating time, coating thickness and flow rate of electrolytic solution on the properties of coating was investigated. Some samples on each step were fabricated during electroplating. The results obtained from polarization measurement, observation of SEM photograph, adhesion test of coating and microhardness test are as follows. On silver plating, polarization resistance of potentiostatic cathodic polarization curve is reduced as the flow rate of Ag electrolytic solution increases. And above resistance is also reduced when the minor chemicals of sodium cyanide and sodium carbonate are added in potassium silver cyanide bath. The reduced polarization resistance makes silver deposition on the cathode easy. An increase in the current density and the coating thickness causes the particle size of deposit to coarsen, and consequently the Knoop microhardness of the coating decreases. On selective plating an increase in the flow rate of plating solution lead to do high speed plating with high current density. In this case, the surface morphology of deposit is of fine microstructure with high Knoop hardness. An increasing trend of the adhesion of coating was shown with increasing the current density and flow rate of electrolytic solution.

People's environmental concerns for fine particles in Korea lead to the strong necessity of improving the performance of environmental control systems. Wet electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) are considered as one of the alternatives to overcome the limit of previous dry ESPs, the re-entrainment of collected particles during rapping and back corona problem for high electrical resistivity dusts etc. In this study, a wire-cylindrical ESP with a thin water film has been developed. Particle collection characteristics were compared in the ESP with operations of water film on and off. Particle collection efficiencies at various applied voltages as well as voltage-current curves were almost the same in the ESP with and without a water film. Particle collection performance for PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 in the wet ESP with a water film was constantly maintained with operation time even in the high dust loading environment. This results indicate that a uniform water film in our wet ESP was successfully formed with a very thin layer without any dry spot and therefore could continuously clean the collected particles on the inner wall of the ESP without any performance degradation.

This paper presents experimental results of a series of 1-g shaking table model tests performed on end-bearing single piles and pile groups to investigate the effect of particle size on the dynamic behavior of soil-pile systems. Two soil-pile models consisting of a single-pile and a $4{\times}2$-pile group were tested twice; first using Jumoonjin sand, and second using Australian Fine sand, which has a smaller particle size. In the case of single-pile models, the lateral displacement was almost within 1% of pile diameter which corresponds to the elastic range of the pile. The back-calculated p-y curves show that the subgrade reaction of the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground was larger than that of the Australian Fine-sand-model ground at the same displacement. This phenomenon means that the stress-strain behavior of Jumoonjin sand was initially stiffer than that of Australian Fine sand. This difference was also confirmed by resonant column tests and compression triaxial tests. And the single pile p-y backbone curves of the Australian fine sand were constructed and compared with those of the Jumoonjin sand. As a result, the stiffness of the p-y backbone curves of Jumunjin sand was larger than those of Australian fine sand. Therefore, using the same p-y curves regardless of particle size can lead to inaccurate results when evaluating dynamic behavior of soil-pile system. In the case of the group-pile models, the lateral displacement was much larger than the elastic range of pile movement at the same test conditions in the single-pile models. The back-calculated p-y curves in the case of group pile models were very similar in both sands because the stiffness difference between the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground and the Australian Fine-sand-model ground was not significantly large at a large strain level, where both sands showed non-linear behavior. According to a series of single pile and group pile test results, the evaluation group pile effect using the p-multiplier can lead to inaccurate results on dynamic behavior of soil-pile system.

Cesium lead halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have recently emerged as highly promising opto-electronic materials. Despite the relative facile anion exchange reactions in cesium lead halide perovskite QDs, in depth study of the anion exchange reactions such as reaction kinetics are required that can provide insight into the crystal transformation in the cesium lead halide perovskite QDs. Herein, we investigated the anion exchange reaction from $CsPbI_3$ QDs to $CsPbBr_3$ QDs with varying the particle size of the starting $CsPbI_3$ QDs. By characterizing the PL spectra in the anion exchange reaction process, we observed that discontinuous PL peak shifts during I-to-Br anion exchange reaction in starting $CsPbI_3$ QDs over a critical size. Origin of the discontinuous I-to-Br anion exchange kinetics are mainly due to thermodynamically unstable nature of the $CsPb(Br/I)_3$ alloy QDs.
