  • Free vibration analysis of a three-layered microbeam including an elastic micro-core and two piezo-magnetic face-sheets resting on Pasternak's foundation are studied in this paper. Strain gradient theory is used for size-dependent modeling of microbeam. In addition, three-unknown shear and normal deformations theory is employed for description of displacement field. Hamilton's principle is used for derivation of the governing equations of motion in electro-magneto-mechanical loads. Three micro-length-scale parameters based on strain gradient theory are employed for prediction of vibrational characteristics of structure in micro-scale. The results show that increase of three micro-length-scale parameters leads to significant increase of three natural frequencies especially for increase of second micro-length-scale parameter. This result is according to this fact that stiffness of a micro-scale structure is increased with increase of micro-length-scale parameters.

  • In this paper, three dimensional dynamic infinite elements are developed for the soil-structure interaction analysis in multi-layered halfspace. For the efficient discretization of 3-D for field regions, five types of dynamic infinite elements are developed. They are the horizontal, vertical, upper horizontal conner, lower vertical conner and conner of conner infinite elements. The shape functions of the infinite elements are based on the approximate expressions of the analytical solutions of the propagating waves in the infinite region. Numerical example analyses are presented for demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed infinite elements.

  • This paper presents dynamic infinite elements for soil-structure interaction analysis. In order to discretize the far field of the unbounded soil media, axisymmetric infinite elements which are capable of propagating multi-waves are proposed. An efficient numerical integration scheme for constructing the element characteristic matrices of the infinite elements in developed based on Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. The efficiency of the infinite elements is demonstrated by comparing the computed impedances of rigid circular footings on an elastic half space and on a layered half spaces with those obtained analytically.

  • Tape casting technique was successfully applied to produce porous ceramics and multi-layered ceramics containing porous layers, where spherical hollow polymer particles were introduced as pore precursors. In the presence of extreme differences in density and size between Al2O3 and pore precursor particles, hindered settling was effective in preventing segregation of component particles and packing behavior of mixed powders was improved through bimodal packing. There were two transitions in packing behavior of mixed powders. The first transition took place at 40~50 vol% pore precursor addition, where majority of pores changed from close to open pore state. The other transition occured at 60~70 vol% pore precursor addition, where pore precursor particles formed a continuous network structure.

  • The boundary element analysis has been attempted for investigating the singular stress at the interface edge of infinitely layered structure. The subdomain technique has been employed and the analysis model has been divided into two subdomains, which are respectively homogeneous elastic zones. The boundary element equation has been formulated using the equilibrium and continuity conditions at the common interface. The numerical results of example problem has been presented.

  • Interface effects on properties of NTC thermistors having Mn-Co-O spinel crystal structure system are analyzed by a mixing rule in case of mixed types and layered types between CuO and Al$_2$O$_3$ added compounds. With adding CuO and Al$_2$O$_3$, The compounds form completely solid solution and their resistance and B constant are changed due to the variation of conduction electrons by their ionic substitutions. The properties of mixed NTC thermistors are depended on the logarithmic mixing rule by a dispersed phase and they show slightly lower values due to the lattice mixing affect in compared with calculated values. The resistance of layered NTC thermistors is depended upon the series mixing rule containing the value of an interface layer and effected by the variation of its thickness, and it is changed rapidly to the logarithmic mixing rule by the connection between two layers with increasing the interface layer

  • If a structure is founded on the ground saturated with pore water, then the ground should be modeled as a saturated two-phase porous medium for accurate earthquake response analysis. In this study, a 3-dimensional transmitting boundary is developed for modeling of far field using u-U formulation for water-saturated transversely isotropic layered stratum. The developed transmitting boundary is verified by comparing the dynamic stiffness of rigid square foundation on water-saturated isotropic layered stratum with the case of using equivalent single-phase medium model.

  • In general, the term soft ground includes clayey soils, which have large compressibility and small shear resistance due to the external load. All process of consolidation in compressible soils can be explained in terms of a transfer of load from an incompressible pore-water to a compressible soil structure. Therefore, one of the most important subjects about the characteristics of the time-dependent consolidation of the clay foundation by the change of load may be the presumption of the final settlement caused by consolidation and the degree of consolidation according to the time. The problems of discontinuous layer interface are very important in the algorithm and programming for the analysis of multi-layered soils using a numerical analysis, finite difference method. Better results can be obtained by the Process for discontinuous layer interface, since it can help consolidation analysis to model the actual ground. The purpose of this paper Provides an efficient computer algorithm based on numerical analysis using finite difference method(F.D.M.) which account for multi-layered soils to determine the degree of consolidation and excess pore pressures relative to time and positions more realistically.

  • An aspect of organophilic modification for the delamination is described for the layered rare-earth hydroxides in this paper. The interlayer property of $RE_2(OH)_5NO_3{\cdot}nH_2O$, where RE=Eu (LEuH) and Tb (LTbH), was modified by the exchange reaction of nitrate ion with oleate anion that is one of the representative dispersion agents in nonpolar solvents. The bilayer arrangement of long oleate anions in the gallery of $RE_2(OH)_5NO_3{\cdot}nH_2O$ could effectively weaken the stacking of the hydroxide layers. Highly organophilic environment of the interlayer space promoted the introduction of toluene to delaminate the layered structure into their individual sheets. When irradiated with 365 nm UV, the resulting transparent colloidal solutions of toluene containing LEuH and LTbH nanosheets yielded typical red and green emissions, respectively, which are visible to the naked eye.
