  • The analytical model is developed in order to predict the nonlinear flexural responses of bonded and unbonded prestressed concrete beam which contains advanced composite materials. The block concept is used, which be regarded as an intermediate modeling method between the couple method with one block and the layered method with multiple sliced blocks in a section. The model can successfully predict the flexural behavior of variously reinforced prestressed concrete beams.

  • A three node triangular element with drilling rotations incorporating Improved Layerwise Zig-zag Theory(HZZT) is developed to analyze the vibration of spinning pretwisted composite blades with embedded damping layer. Matching conditions at the interfaces between the damping material and the border material are enforced by setting the shear forces matched and different shear strains along the interfaces. The natural frequencies and modal loss factors of cantilevered pretwisted composite blade with damping core are calculated with the present triangular element enforcing the matching conditions and compared to experimental results and MSC/NASTRAN results using a layered combination of plate and solid elements.

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the difference in color caused by different thickness in enamel layer of composite resins when applied with single and layering placement technique, and evaluated if the results agreed with the shade guide from the manufacturers to verify reliability of the color matching process of the manufacturers. Materials and Methods: For single composite resin samples, 6 mm diameter and 4 mm thickness cylindrical samples were fabricated using Ceram-X mono (DENTSPLY DeTrey) and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured with spectrophotometer. Same process was done for layering composite resin samples, making 3 dentinal shade samples, 4 mm thickness, for each shade using Ceram-X duo (DENTSPLY DeTrey) and enamel shade resins were layered in 2 mm thickness and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured. These samples were ground to 0.2 mm thickness each time, and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured to 1 mm thickness of enamel shade resin. Results: Color difference (${\Delta}E^*$) between single and layering composite resin was 1.37 minimum and 10.53 maximum when layering thicknesses were between 1 mm and 2 mm and 6 out of 10 same shade groups suggested by manufacturer showed remarkable color difference at any thickness (${\Delta}E^*$ > 3.3). Conclusion: When using Ceram-X mono and duo for composite resin restoration, following the manufacturer's instructions for choosing the shade is not appropriate, and more accurate information for Ceram-X duo is needed on the variation and expression of the shades depending on the thickness of the enamel.

  • The study considers the meaning of the composite images created when users capture present images over past images tagged location data in using the mobile augmented reality technology. The composite image through the location-based augmented reality technology is the result of matching the same location data between present images users are capturing and past images captured already. It is the new composite images that contain two different narratives-current and past in the same space and in real-time. We developed the mobile application implemented augmented reality technology and analysed the process that users create multi-layered narrative in the middle of capturing present image through augmented reality module. In addition, through the comparison with similar studies and applications of the augmented reality, we found that the key to give the multi-narrative in the composite images is the user's participation to put its personal intentions in real-time capturing process. In further development, we'll be able to utilize the application in order that users easily create multi-layered narrative composite image using cultural and personal records.

  • In resin transfer molding, the preform similar to product shape is placed into a mold cavity. Rapid flow front without void formation is important for the composites processing. Multi-layered preform of sandwich is selected. Experiments is carried out using redial flow. An analytical modeling is performed and compared with experimental results. Accurate prediction of flow advance in the preform is of use for reducing the time consumption in the process and enhancing product properties of the final part.

  • This paper presents a comparative study of finite element method (FEM) and analytical method for the plane problem of a layered composite containing an internal perpendicular crack in literature. The layered composite consists of two elastic layers having different elastic constants and heights. External load is applied to the upper elastic layer by means o a rigid punch and the lower elastic layer rests on two simple supports. Numerical simulations are realized by the world wide code ANYS software. Two dimensional analysis of the problem is carried out and the results are verified by comparison with solutions reported in literature. Main goal of the numerical simulation is to investigate the normal stress ${\sigma}_x$(0, y), stress intensity factors at the crack factor and the crack opening displacements.

  • Microstructural morphology of molded composites of thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(LCP) and polyamide 6 (PA6) has been studied as a function of epoxy fraction. Injection-moulding of a thin composite plaque at a temperature below the melting point of the LCP fibrils by suing the extruded LCP/PA6 pellets produced multi-layered structures: 1) the surface skin layer with thickness of 65-120 ym exhibiting a transverse orientation, 2) the sub-skin layer with an orientation perpendicular to the surface skin, i.e. in the flow direction, 3) the core layer with arc-curved flow patterns. Similar microstructural orientations were observed in the respective layers for the composite plaques with different fractions of epoxy.

  • The design of agricultural facilities is the consistent activities, which systematically analyze all the actual conditions, design the unit structures, and improve the faming environment through efficient organization of the unit facility. The design of agricultural facilities is composed of site study, preliminary design, primary design, and detail design. Integrated design system can manage and process the information created by and used in all steps of design process. Formal data models of these design activities are important conceptual steps in development of integrated design system. However, most of existing models are not available for agricultural facilities. To support efficiently developing the integrated design system of agricultural facilities, we have developed the Multi-Layered Primitive-Composite mode I through object-oriented analysis of agricultural facilities. The MPC model not only satisfies the characteristics of agricultural facility, such as variety, coupling, informal data, but also improves abilities of integrated design system such as extensibility, flexibility, and granularity. The paper presents a formal definition of the MPC model.

  • In this paper, an integrated analysis model for evaluating the underwater acoustic performance of the multilayered acoustic coatings containing visco-elastic composite layers with hollow glass microspheres is described. The model uses the effective medium theory considering the acoustic scattering and resonance effects of the inclusions. Also, the model incorporates the compressive deformation mechanism associated with hydrostatic pressure. The technique developed in this work was used as the acoustic layer design and performance analysis tools for the practical hull coatings and acoustic baffles in Korean next generation submarines.

  • The object of this study is to design the Radar Absorbing Structures (RAS) having sandwich structures in the X-band $(8.2\~12.4GHz)$ frequencies. Glass fabric/epoxy composites containing conductive carbon blacks and carbon fabric/epoxy composites were used for the face sheets. Polyurethane (PU) foams containing multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) were used for the core. Their permittivities in the X-band were measured using the transmission line technique. The reflection loss characteristics for multi-layered sandwich structures were calculated using the theory of transmission and reflection in a multi-layered medium. Three kinds of specimens were fabricated and their reflection losses in the X-band were measured using the free space technique. Experimental results were in good agreements with simulated ones in 10dB absorbing bandwidth.
