An analytical study was carried out on the flow resistance of tree-shaped channel flow architectures, based on the principle of the constructal law of evolutionary increase of flow access through the generation of better flowing configurations with two diameters in the square domain. Two types of tree-shaped configurations are optimized. The minimized global flow resistance decreases definitely as the system size, N, increases. And the best channel configurations among the first construct and second construct as a result of regarding pressure drop was selected. We also show that the freedom to morph the design and to increase its performance can be enhanced by using tree-tree configurations with $2^{nd}$ construct when N is greater than 18.

This paper proposes an unified definition of powers for various circuit conditions such as balanced/unbalanced, sinusoidal/non-sinusoidal, and linear/nonlinear, for single-phase systems and three-phase systems. Conventional reactive power is more classified into an interactive power and a scattering power. These powers are defined both in the time domain and the frequency domain consistently, and agree well with the conservation law. Several important power quality factors are defined to measure and evaluate the power quality for the various circuits in the single-phase and three-phase systems. Simulation results show the power quality factors can evaluate and classify the various circuit conditions clearly.
Numerical flow computations around an aeroelastic 3D square cylinder immersed in the turbulent boundary layer are shown. Present computational code can be characterized by three numerical aspects which are 1) the method of artificial compressibility is adopted for the incompressible flow computations, 2) the domain decomposition technique is used to get better grid point distributions, and 3) to achieve the conservation law both in time and space when the flow is computed a with moving and transformed grid, the time derivatives of metrics are evaluated using the time-and-space volume. To provide time-dependant inflow boundary conditions satisfying prescribed time-averaged velocity profiles, a convenient way for generating inflow turbulence is proposed. The square cylinder is modeled as a 4-lumped-mass system and it vibrates with two-degree of freedom of heaving motion. Those blocks which surround the cylinder are deformed according to the cylinder's motion. Vigorous oscillations occur as the vortex shedding frequency approaches cylinder's natural frequencies.
This paper proposes a Multiband Shunt Hybrid Active Filter (SHAF) with sensorless control. A plant is modeled in the discrete- time domain and a controller is designed using the Pole shifting law in the polynomial domain. This control approach is very useful for filtering the load harmonics with reduced sensor counts where a low cost solution like SHAF is required. Multiple Synchronous Reference Frames (MSRF) and low pass filters are used to measure the $5^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ harmonic components separately from the load and filter currents. Individual current controllers are designed for the $5^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ harmonic currents. Control is realized in the stationary, three-phase (abc) reference frame. Performance of the controller is validated through simulation, using realistic plant and controller models, as well as experimentally on a full-scale distribution system.
This paper proposes an unified definition of powers for various circuit conditions such as balanced/unbalanced, sinusoidal/non-sinusoidal, and linear/nonlinear, fur single-phase systems and three-phase systems. Conventional reactive power is more classified into an interactive power and an alternating power. These powers are defined both in the time domain and the frequency domain consistently, and agree well with the conservation law. Several important power quality factors are defined to measure and evaluate the power quality fur the various circuits in the single-phase and three-phase systems. Simulation results show the power quality factors can evaluate and classify the various circuit conditions clearly.
We have investigated the kinetics of diffusion-influenced bimolecular reactions in which one reactant has an internal mode, called the gating mode, that activates or deactivates its reactivity intermittently. The rate law and an expression for the time-dependent rate coefficient have been obtained from the general formalism based on the hierarchy of kinetic equations involving reactant distribution functions. The analytic expression obtained for the steady-state reaction rate constant coincides with the one obtained by Szabo et al., who derived the expression by employing the conventional concentration-gradient approach. For the time-dependent reaction rate coefficient, we obtained for the first time an exact analytic expression in the Laplace domain which was then inverted numerically to give the time-domain results.
A theoretical analysis was conducted of convective instability driven by buoyancy forces under transient temperature fields in an annular porous medium bounded by coaxial vertical cylinders. Darcy's law and Boussinesq approximation are used to explain the characteristics of fluid motion and linear stability theory is employed to predict the onset of buoyancy-driven motion. The linear stability equations are derived in a global domain, and then cast into in a self-similar domain. Using a spectral expansion method, the stability equations are reformed as a system of ordinary differential equations and solved analytically and numerically. The critical Darcy-Rayleigh number is founded as a function of the radius ratio. Also, the onset time and corresponding wavelength are obtained for the various cases. The critical time becomes smaller with increasing the Darcy-Rayleigh number and follows the asymptotic relation derived in the infinite horizontal porous layer.
The law of territorial sea is a fundamental law by which the width of sovereign domain of a coastal state is determined. The P.R.China'a regime on the territorial sea was established through the Declaration on China's Ttrritorial Sea of 1958 and the P.R.China's Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone Law of 1992. And the P.R.China's consistent policy on the territorial sea can be summarized as follows ; \circled1 The adoption of the straight baseline and 12 nautical miles of the territorial sea width, \circled2 The foreign merchant vessels can enjoy the right of innocent passage, while requesting for prior permission for the foreign military vessels on the entry into territorial sea. \circled3 The Chiungchow Strait and the Bohai Bay are claimed as the internal waters. \circled4 Enlistment of the whole coastal islands including the Taiwan. 12 nautical miles of the territorial sea width can be recognized as lawfull with respect to the 1982 UNLOS Convention. But the P.R.China's Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone Law of 1992 contains some problems on the legality viewed in the light of customary international law. Firstly, it can be said that the adoption of simple straight baseline is not reasonable, and it must be investigated closely on the hidden intention of China. Secondly, there involved some possibility of international dispute on making Tung Tao which is 69 nautical miles apart from the mainland of a basepoint and on making the Bohai Bay of a historic bay. And also public notification of all basepoints for the straight baselines is necessary to meet the requirement of customary international law, Thirdly, two military zones established unilaterally in 1950 are illegal with respect to the customary international law, and they must be repealed deservedly. Fourthly, there have a lot of restrictions on the innocent passage even for foreign merchant vessels by the municipal law such as the Maritime Traffic Safety Law. As a conclusion, the P.R.China's territorial sea regime contains some illegal elements such as unilateral expansion of the maritime sovereignty or jurisdiction. In order to meet the general principle of the international law, the P.R.China's territorial sea policy must be modified on the basis of multilateral agreement with the states concerned. And Korea, as a state with opposite, has a definite right to take countermeasure agaist the P.R.China's contiguous zone.
It is recognized that the magnetization reverses with a sequence of discrete and jerky jumps, known as the Barkhausen effect. Recently, interest in the Barkhausen effect has grown as it is a good example of dynamical critical behavior, evidenced by experimental observation of a power law distribution of the Barkhausen jump size. So far, most experimental studies have been carried out on bulk samples using a classical inductive technique, which is difficult to apply to thin film samples mainly due to the ]ow signal intensity. For this reason, very few experiments have been done on two-dimensional ferromagnetic thin films. In this talk, we report a direct domain observation of Barkhausen avalanche at criticality in Co and MnAs thin films investigated by means of a magnetooptical microscope magnetometer (MOMM), capable of time-resolved domain observation with an image grabbing rate of 30 frames/s in real time. In Fig. 1, we demonstrate a series of six representative domain-evolution patterns of 25-nm Co film observed successively by means of the MOMM, where one can directly witness Barkhausen avalanche.
As a typoon gets into harbour, a moored ships shows erratic motions and even mooring line failures is occurred. Such troubles may be caused by harbour resonance phenomena, result in large motion amplitudes at law frequency, which is closed to the natural frequency of the moored ship. The nonlinear motions of a moored ship beside quay are simulated under external forces due to wave, current including mooring forces in time domain. The forces due to waves are obtained from source and dipole distribution method in the frequency domain. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equation in the horizontal plane. The wind forces are calculated from emperical formula of ABS and the mooring forces of ropes and fenders are modeled as linear spring.
