한국산 목본식물에 대한 계통분류학적 연구

  • Leaf venation of 12 species of Lauraceae in Korea, native or introduced, was investigated and described by the use of Soft X-Ray. They could be grouped by the venation types, such as, 1. Actinodromous; Lindera obtusiloba, 2. Acrodromous; Cinnamomum camphora, C. japonicum, C. loureirii, 3. Brochidodromous having strongly developed basal secondary vein; Neolitsea aciculata, N. sericea, 4. Brochidodromous hoving irregulary branched secondary vein; Lindera erythrocarpa, L. glauca, 5. Brochidodromous having weak marginal loop; Machilus thunbergii, M.Japonica, 6. Brochidodromous having typical venation; Iozoste lancifolia, Litsea japonicum. This grouping corresponded with current classifying system at genus level except for genus Lindera, and supported Nakai's system at Tribe level. They also showed a gradual transition from brochidodromous to actinodromous types, but to certify the systematic value of this transition warrented more study. Identifying key for the species could be made by the venation type.

  • Anatomical characters of the secondary xylem in roots of Lauraceae, including 6 genera and 13 species grown in Korea, were studied systematically. Lauraceors members studied anatomically possess characters of the secondary xylem that are in the main more specialized than those found in the primitive angiosperm families. The specialized characters are as follows; (1) mostly solitary pores with some radially multiples, (2) mostly simple perforation plates and partially scalariform perforation plates in all species, (3) slightly oblique end wall of vessel element, (4) predominantly alternate intervascular pitting, (5) paratracheal axial parenchyma in all species, (6) heterogeneous II or III vascular rays. It is considered that the series of specialization in this family from the perforation plates and angle of end wall to the vessel axis is as follows; MachiluslongrightarrowNeolitsealongrightarrowLinderalongrightarrowCinammomumlongrightarrowIozostelongrightarrowLitsea.

  • Floral structures of 11 korean lauraceous species belonging to six genera have been studied. Machilus is a primitive genus having relatively large bisexual flower, six tepals and staminodes in fourth whorl of stamen. The flowers of Neolitsea are highly reduced state as unisexual flower, six stamens arranged to three whorls and no staminode in the flower, so regared as more advanced group. Intrafamilial classification systems of Nakai (1939) and Pax (1891) are more reasonable but still have some discrepancies with results. The origin of tepals of this group has been a long controversial problem; whether the differentiation of tepals occur. Teratological study of Lindera erythrocarpa, inner tepals of this group must be originated from the staminode and outer tepals from leafy tepals. Although morphological differentiation does not sitll occur, inner and outer whorls of tepals are originated through different way.

Cytotoxic Lactones from the Pericarps of Litsea japonica

  • From the pericarps of Litsea japonica (Thunb.) Jussieu, eighteen butanolide derivatives (1 - 18) were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against HeLa, HL-60, and MCF-7 cells. Compounds 1-9 with 2-alkylidene-3-hydroxy-4-methylbutanolides structure exhibited cytotoxic activities against cancer-cell lines. Among them, compound 8 (litsenolide $D_2$) exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity against the tested cell lines, including HeLa, HL-60, and MCF-7, with $IC_{50}$ values of $17.6{\pm}1.3$, $4.2{\pm}0.2$, and $12.8{\pm}0.0{\mu}M$, respectively. Compound 8 induced apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. Annexin V/Propidium Iodide (PI) double staining confirmed that 8 effectively induced apoptosis in MCF-7 cells. To the best of our knowledge, we have reported cytotoxic activity of butanolides from L. japonica against these cancer-cell lines for the first time.

  • AIzelin (1) and quercitrin (2) isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the leaves of Litsea japonica Jussieu (Lauraceae) showed inhibitory activity against classical pathway complement system with 50% inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$/) values of 112.2 and 198.2 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$. respectively. For the structure-activity relationship of flavonoids on anti-complement system. myricitrin (3) from JUQ/ans mandshurica Maximowicz (Juglandaceae) also tested anti-complement activity. while this was devoid of any significant activity.   • The CH$_2$Cl$_2$ fraction of the bark of Machilus thunbergii Sieb. et Zucc. (Lauraceae) significantly protected primary cultures of rat cortical cells exposed to the excitotoxic amino acid, L-glutamate. Several lignans including (-)-isoguaiacin, meso- dihydroguaiaretic acid, machilin A, (+)-galbelgin, licarin A, (-)-sesamin, and (+)-guaiacin were isolated from the CH$_2$Cl$_2$ fraction using by bioactivity-guided isolation techniques. Among these lignans, (-)-isoguaiacin, meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid, licarin A and (+)-guaiacin had significant neuroprotective activities against glutamate-induced toxicity in primary cultures of rat cortical cells at concentration ranging from 0.1 ${\mu}$M to 10.0 ${\mu}$M. Anti-microbial Activities of Ten Lauraceae Species against Propionibacterium acnes (여드름 유발균 Propionibacterium acnes에 대한 녹나무과 10종의 항균활성)

  • This study was performed to develop a new natural antimicrobial materials by analyzing the effect of extracts obtained from Ten Lauraceae Species on the inhibitory activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The plant materials were collected from Wando and Jeju islands, and the antimicrobial activity of the crude extracts was examined by the agar diffusion method with different part (i.e., leaf and branch), solvents (i.e., distilled water, 80% ethanol, and 100% methanol) and at different ultrasonic extracting times (i.e., 15, 30, and 45 minutes). The control agents used were synthetic antimicrobials, methylparaben and phenoxyethanol, at concentrations of 0.4, 1, 2, and 4 mg/disc. Altogether, extracts of 10 species used in the study showed inhibitory activity, which confirmed their antimicrobial action against acnes. Among these, leaves of Laurus nobilis L. which was extracted in 80% ethanol for 45 min showed the largest clear zone (19.8 mm). Leaves of L. nobilis L., showing highest antimicrobial activities among 10 species, were successively reextracted with n-hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate and n-butanol. As a results, in all fractions except butanol, clear zone above 10 mm were formed. The ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest inhibitory activity (13.3 mm) and the inhibitory activity was significantly higher than that of crude extract (10.2 mm) and phenoxyethanol as a control (12.5 mm).

  • Cinnamomi Cortex (Lauraceae), the dried bark of Cinnamomum cassia BLUME, has been used as traditional Chinese medicine for its stomachic, astringent, carminative, antispasmodic, antibacterial, antifungal properties. Four compounds were isolated from the MeOH extract of Cinnamomi Cortex, and their structures were identified as trans-cinnamic acid (1), ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (2), bis(2-methylheptyl)phthalate (3), coumarin (4) by comparison of their physical and spectral data with those reported in the literature. These compounds were tested melanogenesis inhibitory effect on B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines. Among them, trans-cinnamic acid (1) showed the most potent inhibitory effect on melanogenesis with $IC_{50}$ value of $13{\mu}g/ml$. Arbutin, positive control, exhibited an $IC_{50}$ value of $29{\mu}g/ml$.

  • The plants medicinal resources of Mt. Baegun were investigated 21 times from March 1, 1986 to December 30, 1987. In order to analyze the vegetation of Mt.Baegun area, herb plants structure and distribution. Herb plants of Baegun Mt.consisted of 60 families, 250 species in all, The resourees of important herb drugswere Campanulaceae, Salicaceae, Moraceae, Polygonaceae. Amarantaceae, Plant-aglnaceae, Labiatae, Compositae, Asclepiaclaceae, Leguminosae, Gentianaceae, Liliaceae, lilicaceae, Dioscoreaceae, Caprifollaceae, Ranunculaceae, Lauraceae, LardicaDalaceae, Araliaceae, Solanaceaer Cornaceae, Fagaceae and Rosaeeae. Theherb durgs were eomparatively more than in other mountains in our country.

Mohu area,herb plants structure and distribution. Herb plants of Mohu Mt. consisted of 58families, 230 species in all. The resources of important herb drugs were plant-aginaceae, Labiatae, Amarantaceae, Campanulaceae, Asclepiaclaceae, Leguminosae,Gentianaceae, Liliaceae, lilicaceae, Dioscoreaceae, Compositae, Caprifoliaceae,Ranuncvlaceae, Lauraceae, Lardizabalaceae, Araliaceae, Solanaceae, Cornaceae,Fagaceae and Rosaceae. The herb drugs were comparatively more than in othermountains in our country.
