  • Grain boundary diffusion plays significant role in the fission gas release, which is one of the crucial processes dominating nuclear fuel performance. Gaseous fission products such as Xe and Kr generated inside fuel pellet have to diffuse in the lattice and in the grain boundary before they reach open space in the fuel rod. In the mean time, the grains in the fuel pellet grow and shrink according to grain growth kinetics, especially at elevated temperature at which nuclear reactors are operating. Thus the boundary movement ascribed to the grain growth greatly influences the fission gas release rate by lengthening or shortening the lattice diffusion distance, which is the rate limiting step. Sweeping fission gases by the moving boundary contributes to the increment of the fission gas release as well. Lattice and grain boundary diffusion processes in the fission gas release can be studied by 'tracer diffusion' technique, by which grain boundary diffusion can be estimated and used directly for low burn-up fission gas release analysis. However, even for tracer diffusion analysis, taking both the intragranular grain growth and the diffusion processes simultaneously into consideration is not easy. Only a few models accounting for the both processes are available and mostly handle them numerically. Numerical solutions are limited in the practical use. Here in this paper, an approximate analytical solution of the lattice and stationary grain boundary diffusion in a polycrystalline solid is developed for the tracer diffusion techniques. This short closed-form solution is compared to available exact and numerical solutions and turns out to be acceptably accurate. It can be applied to the theoretical modeling and the experimental analysis, especially PIE (post irradiation examination), of low burn up fission. gas release.

  • J.Milnor[Mi2] has introduced the notion of directional entropy in his study of Cellular Automata. Cellular Automaton map can be considered as a continuous map from a space $K^Z^n$ to itself which commute with the translation of the lattice $Z^n$. Since the space $K^Z^n$ is compact, map S is uniformly continuous. Hence S is a block map(a finite code)[He]. (S is said to have a finite memory.) In the case of n = 1, we have a shift map, T on $K^Z$, and a block map S and they together generate a $Z^2$ action.

  • A meshfree formulation for the calculation of energy band structure is presented. The conventional meshfree shape function is modified to handle the periodicity of Bravais lattice, and applied to the calculation of real-space electronic-band structure. Numerical examples include the Kronig-Penney model potential and the empirical pseudopotentials of diamond and zinc-blonde semiconductors. Results demonstrate that the meshfree method be a promising one as a real-space technique for the calculations of diverse physical band structures.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new Tabu method to get K-anonymity character in database information privacy protection. We use the conception of lattice to form the solution space for K-anonymity Character and search the solution area in this solution space to achieve the best or best approach modification solution for the information in the database. We then compared the Tabu method with other traditional heuristic method and our method show a better solution in most of the cases.

  • Unless otherwise stated, we always assume that X is a Banach space, and $1 < p, q < \infty with \frac{p}{1}+\frac{q}{1} = 1$. We use S(X) and B(X) to denote the unit sphere and the unit ball in X respectively.

  • Some compounds with tetrahedral framework structures are synthetized and the general methods of synthesis are discussed. There exist tridymite-, cristobalite-, Icmm-, Immm-, beryllonite-, feldspar-, and paracelsian-structure type in the gropu of compounds. Their lattice constants and space groups are summarized and given in a table.

  • Steel set is a structure that stabilize the NATM tunnel until the installation of shotcrete, and it is combined after the shotcrete is installed to improve stability. In this study, determination approach for the equivalent elastic modulus of shotcrete-lattice girder composite is newly suggested for tunneling simulation. Also, a method was presented to calibrate the equivalent elastic modulus through the comparison of the full 3D model and equivalent model. When the conventional equivalent elastic modulus is used for shotcrete-lattice girder composite, the flexural strength of equivalent model is 130% smaller than that of full 3D model. Equivalent elastic modulus is adjusted considering the error of flexural strength. It is found that the error of flexural strength obtained from adjusted equivalent model using adjusted equivalent elastic modulus is reduced less than 1%.

  • The conventional approach to evaluate the contaminant transport in soils adopts the macro-scale implementation while the pore configuration and network is a dominant factor to determine the fate of contaminant. However, the observation of fate and transport at pore scale may not be readily approachable because of the computational expenses to solve Navier-Stokes equation. We herein present the 2D Lattice-Boltzmann method that enables to assess the local fluid velocity and density efficiently for the case of single phase and multi-components. The solute fate spatio-temperal space is explicitly determined by the advection of fluid flow. Two different types of idealized pore space provides the path of fluid. Also, solute transport, the velocity field and average concentration of solute are computed in steady state. Results show that the pore geometry such as tortuosity mainly affect the solute fate. It highlights the significance of the pore configuration and shape in granular soils and rock discontinuity in spite of the equivalent porosity.

  • new computational procedure for the Non-Linear Vortex Lattice Method (NLVLM) is suggested in this work. Conventional procedures suggested so far usually involves inner iteration loop to update free vortex shape and an under-relaxation based iteration loop to determine the free vortex shape. In this present work, we suggest a new formula based on quasi-steady concept to fix free vortex shape which eliminates the need for inner iteration loop. Further, the ensemble averaging of the induced velocities for a given free vortex segment evaluated at each iteration significantly improves the convergence property of the algorithm without resorting to the under-relaxation technique. Numerical experiments over several low aspect ratio wings are carried out to obtain optimal empirical parameters such as the length of the free vortex segment, the vortex core radius, and the rolled-up wake length.
