  • This study is to help maintain the identity of traditional Korean culture and develop fashion culture products by applying images and composition forms of traditional lattice patterns for vest designs. Lattice can be distinguished as a shape created through intersecting vertical and horizontal lines, in the form of oblique lines in vertical and horizontal structures, and in the form of an oblique line. Lattice patterns represent the overall unity and order as well as the beauty of small spaces created by simple lines. Traditional lattice patterns of the Joseon Dynasty were examined theoretically through the literature. Based on theoretical grounds, there is study illustrates vest designs using Adobe Illustrator CS6 as well as works on a 3D virtual costume using CLO Trial 4.2, a 3D virtual dressing system of CLO Virtual Fashion. This study developed an easy to wear vest design categorized as clothes for both men and women. The geometric formality of the lattice pattern has been applied to fashion culture products. In this study, the design was developed focusing on lattice, kotsal (flower pattern), sosulbitsal (diagonal), sotdaesal, tisal (horizontal & vertical). • The reduction of the dynamic response of an offshore structure subjected to wind-generated random ocean waves is of extreme significance in the aspects of serviceability, fatigue life and safety of the structure. In this study, a new neuro-control scheme is applied to the vibration control of a fixed offshore platform under random wave loads to examine the applicability of the proposed method. It is called the Lattice Probabilistic Neural Network (LPNN), as it utilizes lattice pattern of state vectors as the training data of PNN. When control results of the LPNN are compared with those of the NN and PNN, LPNN showed better performance in effectively suppressing the structural responses in a shorter computational time.

  • This paper discusses 2D lattice models of beams for simulating the fracture of brittle materials. A simulation of an experiment on a concrete beam subjected to bending, in which two overlapping cracks occur, is used to study the effect of individual beam characteristics and different arrangements of the beams in the overall lattice. It was found that any regular orientation of the beams influences the resulting crack patterns. Methods to implement a wide range of Poisson's ratios are also developed, and the use of the lattice to study arbitrary micro-structures is outlined. The crack patterns that are obtained with lattice are in good agreement with the experimental results. Also, numerical simulations of the tests were performed by means of a lattice model, and non-integer dimensions were measured on the predicted lattice damage patterns.

  • A computer program has been developed to analyze easily the Kikuchi pattern which is useful in obtaining the crystallographic data of materials. This program can simulate the Kikuchi patterns for 14 Bravais lattice by using the matrix algebra. Convenient menu system was also added to enhance the applications of the program. That is, by varying the tilting angle, camera length (RADIUS) and $S_{max}$ in the menu, various Kikuchi patterns can be obtained. The simulated patterns, then, can be compared with the experimentally-obtained Kikuchi pattern to examine validity of simulation.

  • The dependency of long-range order parameter on the ordered structure of $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ solid solutions has been investigated by means of computer simulations of high-resolution lattice images. The computer image simulations were performed by the multislice method in a wide range of sample thicknesses, defocusing values, and long-range order parameters. It was found that the lattice images of the ordered structures were predominantly dependent on the long-range order parameter, The lattice images in a complete ordered structure showed a pseudo-hexagonal pattern. As the order parameter decreases, the simulated images changed slowly from a pseudo-hexagonal pattern to a rectangular pattern. The lattice images in a complete disordered structure showed a rectangular pattern. Also, the simulated images of the $Pb(Mg_xNb_{1-x})O_3$ with different Mg:Nb ratios obtained at a given long-range order parameter were basically the same patterns, irrespective of Mg and Nb compositions.

  • Blue phase shows several different reflection colors from the randomly oriented domains and crystal direction. Also there are variations in the size of domains. The domain size is dependent on the temperature gradient. With smaller cooling rate of temperature, the domain size was increased compared with rapid cooling. With injection of light of specific wavelength, we find that the diffraction patterns were occurred around the light spot in the cell of blue phase. It was supposed to be from the matching of the phase retardation and domain size. However, actually the diffraction pattern is reflecting the lattice structure in double twist of the blue phase. The lattice constant from the radius of diffraction patterns shows very similar one from the reflection spectrum, which indicates the internal lattice constant in double twist of the blues phase.
