This study was investigated to find the effects of sowing time on growth and yields of cowpea grown in a southern region of South Korea. Experiments were carried out in Naju, Jeonnam Province (Latitude 35° 04' N, Longitude 126° 54' E) during 2013 and 2014. The intermediate-erect type strains used in this study were Jeonnam1 and Jeonnam2 (Okdang). Sowing time was performed between middle-April and middle-August at intervals of one month. The days from sowing to emergence was significantly higher in the middle-April sowing (12 days) time but there was no significant differences other sowing dates (5 to 3 days). The days from sowing to first flowering were shorter for sowing dates between middle-April and middle-July because sowing time was delayed and then were lengthened again at middle-August sowing; the days were longest at middle-April sowing (around 62 days) and were shortest at middle-July sowing (35 days). The days from first flowering to harvesting were short for the sowing dates between middle-April and middle-July (17 to 15 days) but were relatively long for middle-August sowing date (24 days). Stem length was relatively long for the middle-May and middle-June sowing dates. Peduncle length was relatively long for the middle-April sowing date. Main-stem node number was highest for the middle-July sowing. Branch number per plant was highest in the middle-April sowing. Seed yields were highest for the middle-April sown Jeonnam1 and the Jeonnam2 (Okdang) strains showing, 199 and 211 kg/10a, respectively, and then followed by sowing in middle-July, 191 and 195 kg/10a, respectively.

Numerous deaths and substantial property damage have occurred recently due to frequent disasters of the highest intensity according to the abnormal climate, which is caused by various problems, such as global warming, all over the world. Such large-scale disasters have become an international issue and have made people aware of the disasters so they can implement disaster-prevention measures. Extensive information on disaster prevention actively has been announced publicly to support the natural disaster reduction measures throughout the world. In Japan, diverse developmental studies on disaster prevention systems, which support hazard map development and flood control activity, have been conducted vigorously to estimate external forces according to design frequencies as well as expected maximum frequencies from a variety of areas, such as rivers, coasts, and ports based on broad disaster prevention data obtained from several huge disasters. However, the current reduction measures alone are not sufficiently effective due to the change of the paradigms of the current disasters. Therefore, in order to obtain the synergy effect of reduction measures, a study of the establishment of an integrated system is required to improve the various disaster prevention technologies and the current disaster prevention system. In order to develop a similar typhoon search system and establish a disaster prevention infrastructure, in this study, techniques will be developed that can be used to forecast typhoons before they strike by using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and offer primary disaster prevention information according to the direction of the typhoon. The main function of this model is to predict the most similar typhoon among the existing typhoons by utilizing the major typhoon information, such as course, central pressure, and speed, before the typhoon directly impacts South Korea. This model is equipped with a combination of AI and DNN forecasts of typhoons that change from moment to moment in order to efficiently forecast a current typhoon based on similar typhoons in the past. Thus, the result of a similar typhoon search showed that the quality of prediction was higher with the grid size of one degree rather than two degrees in latitude and longitude.

Organic compost from the food waste and poultry manure is useful for a soil conditioner and fertilizer. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of the food waste compost(FC) and poultry manure compost(PC) separately on the growth of young radish and the change of soil properties. Applying 3, 6, $9kg/m^2$ of FC and 1, 2, $3kg/m^2$ of PC, the cultivation of young radish was carried out in the crop field. In young radish applied with FC, leaf length was positively increased with the increasing usage of the compost. Number and area of leaves, and weight of leaf and root were peaked at applying rate of $6kg/m^2$. Growth of young radish with FC of $9kg/m^2$ was lowest in the initial period of the cultivation, and it is regarded that the applying rate of $9kg/m^2$ was detrimental to the germination of the young radish. In young radish applied with PC, the growth rate lowest at applying of $2kg/m^2$ than any other applying rate. Soil properties as bulk density and EC were considerably improved according to applying of food-waste and poultry manures compost. It should be considered to be needed additional study about the accurate applying rate and detailed investigation for soil properties.

Control stations managed by national and local governmes are associated with other survey work and constructing geography information and they are important assets in the national level as the positional standard of the country. Since these control points are managed as some type of register and the control points could not be easily updated due to the loss of control stations from construction work or urban development. Therefore, the users could not understand the present situation of the changed control stations. In this background, the aim of this study was to develop control station management system which the managers can use to efficiently maintain control points and to support the usage of the survey control points. For developing this system, we have designed input, update, network, analysis and statistic functions, and have constructed the system using Mapobject as main engine with other languages such as Visual C++ and Visual Basic. The graphic data used in this system are 1/5,000 digital map and digital cadastral map, and the attribute data of each control station are point name, map tile name, longitude and latitude coordinates, TM coordinates, surveying data with the format of year-month-day and control situation photos and so on. In the result of constructing this control station management system, we could achieve integrated management of graphic, attribute and positioning information of each control station.

In order to suggest the useful information on the fishing ground of the bigeye tuna Thunnus obesus(LOWE), a data base system was formed with catch data of the Korean tuna long liners during from 1975 to 1987 by using a set of 16 bits personal computer. This data base was constructed of the handling program and 4 types of data file processed from the monthly and yearly catch data of the whole tunas and the bigeye tuna. And when the system was started, the map of one among various Oceans such as the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. is drawn on the monitor. And then the catch rates of the whole tunas or the catch ratios of bigeye tunas are indicated by the figured symbols and the colors on the sea divisions of 5$^{\circ}$ space of longitude and latitude respectively at the same time. Also this system has the preestimating program on the catch rates of the whole tunas and the bigeye tuna in the desired month and sea divisions. In the results than this data base system was handled and tested, very useful informations were obtained for the detection of tunas, especially bigeye tuna, and the preestimation was possible in a desired level.

In this paper, we design and implement the HealthSchedule app, which records exercise data based on the GPS sensor embedded in smartphones. This app utilizes the smartphone's GPS sensor to collect real-time location information of the user and displays the movement path to the designated destination. It records the user's actual path using latitude and longitude coordinates. Users register exercise activities and destination points when scheduling, and initiate the exercise. When measuring the current location, a lime green departure marker is generated, and the movement path is displayed in blue, with the destination marker and a surrounding 25-meter radius circle shown in sky blue. Using the coordinates of the starting point or the previous location and the current GPS sensor-transmitted location coordinates, it measures the distance traveled, time taken, and calculates the speed. Furthermore, it accumulates measurement data to provide information on the total distance traveled, movement path, and overall average speed. Even when reaching the destination during exercise, the movement path continues to accumulate until the completion button is clicked. The completion button is activated when the user moves into the sky blue circular area with a radius of 25 meters, centered around the initially set destination. This means that the user must reach the designated destination, and if they wish to continue exercising without clicking the completion button, they can do so. Depending on the selected exercise type, the app displays the calories burned, aiming to increase user engagement and a sense of accomplishment.

Usage of ecosystem models has been extended to landscape scales for understanding the effects of environmental factors on natural and agro-ecosystems and for serving as their management decision tools. Accurate prediction of spatial variation in daily temperature is required for most ecosystem models to be applied to landscape scales. There are relatively few empirical evaluations of landscape-scale temperature prediction techniques in mountainous terrain such as Korean Peninsula. We derived a periodic function of seasonal lapse rate fluctuation from analysis of elevation effects on daily temperatures. Observed daily maximum and minimum temperature data at 63 standard stations in 1999 were regressed to the latitude, longitude, distance from the nearest coastline and altitude of the stations, and the optimum models with $r^2$ of 0.65 and above were selected. Partial regression coefficients for the altitude variable were plotted against day of year, and a numerical formula was determined for simulating the seasonal trend of daily lapse rate, i.e., partial regression coefficients. The formula in conjunction with an inverse distance weighted interpolation scheme was applied to predict daily temperatures at 267 sites, where observation data are available, on randomly selected dates for winter, spring and summer in 2000. The estimation errors were smaller and more consistent than the inverse distance weighting plus mean annual lapse rate scheme. We conclude that this method is simple and accurate enough to be used as an operational temperature interpolation scheme at landscape scale in Korea and should be applicable to elsewhere.
This study was conducted to investigate the variation of fruit and seed morphology among populations and among individuals within population of Sorbus commixta Hedl. distributed in Korea. Fruits collected from 42 trees in six natural populations and their six fruit and four seed characteristics were analyzed. In all characteristics, there were significant differences among populations and among individuals within populations. Especially, number of fruits per fruit-bearing branch and number of seeds per fruit showed higher values among populations in total variance component. Coefficients of variation in the number of fruits per fruit-bearing branch and seed weight are relatively high (42.0~75.3%) compared to other traits (11.9~32.1%). As a result of simple correlation analysis, the number of fruits per fruit-bearing branch showed a significant positive correlation with latitude but showed a negative correlation with longitude. According to cluster analysis, geographically close populations showed the tendency of clustering into the same group. Three principal components (PC) were deduced from principal component analysis, which explain the 87% of total variance of fruit and seed characteristics. The highest contribution was seed length and seed weight in PC1, fruit width and seed index in PC2 and fruit length and number of fruits per fruit-bearing branch in PC3.
In order to study interactions between climate change and air quality, a modeling system including the downscaling scheme has been developed in the integrated manner. This research focuses on the development of a downscaling method to utilize CCSM3 outputs as the initial and boundary conditions for the regional climate model, MM5. Horizontal/vertical interpolation was performed to convert from the latitude/longitude and hybrid-vertical coordinate for the CCSM3 model to the Lambert-Conformal Arakawa-B and sigma-vertical coordinate for the MM5 model. A variable diagnosis was made to link between different variables and their units of CCSM and MM5. To evaluate the dynamic downscaling performance of this study, spatial distributions were compared between outputs of CCSM/MM5 and NRA/MM5 and statistic analysis was conducted. Temperature and precipitation patterns of CCSM/MM5 in summer and winter showed a similar pattern with those of observation data in East Asia and the Korean Peninsula. In addition, statistical analysis presented that the agreement index (AI) is more than 0.9 and correlation coefficient about 0.9. Those results indicate that the dynamic downscaling system built in this study can be used for the research of interaction between climate change and air quality.

Using environmental DNA (eDNA) in the fisheries and oceanography fields, research on the diversity of biological species, the presence or absence of specific species and quantitative evaluation of species has considerably been performed. Up to date, no study on eDNA has been tried in the area of fisheries acoustics in Korea. In this study, the biomass of a dominant species in the northwestern waters of Jeju Island was examined using 1) the catch ratio of the species from trawl survey results and 2) the ranking ratio of the species from the eDNA results. The dominant species was Zoarces gillii, and its trawl catch ratio was 68.2% and its eDNA ratio was 81.3%. The Zoarces gillii biomass from the two methods was 7199.4 tons (trawl) and 8584.6 tons (eDNA), respectively. The mean and standard deviation of the acoustic backscattering strength values (120 kHz) from the entire survey area were 135.5 and 157.7 m2/nm2, respectively. The strongest echo signal occurred at latitude 34° and longitude 126°15' (northwest of Jeju Island). High echo signals were observed in a specific oceanographic feature (salinity range of 32-33 psu and the water temperature range of 19-20℃). This study was a pilot study on evaluating quantitatively aquatic resources by applying the eDNA technique into acoustic-trawl survey method. Points to be considered for high-quality quantitative estimation using the eDNA to fisheries acosutics were discussed.
