The Switch Installation Criteria For Satisfying Future Reliability Goal (향후 신뢰도 목표를 만족하는 개폐기 설치 기준 제시)

  • The addition of switches to a distribution feeder does, in general, increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage of many to the customers on the feeder. To cover its service area so that feeder-level delivery reaches sufficiently close to all customers, feeders typically split their routes many times, in what is often called a lateral feeder. It is interesting to note, however, that the effectiveness of a switch is very much dependent on the types of lateral feeder. The types of lateral are classified into two types. The first is loop lateral feeder that can connect its load to an adjacent feeder through a tie line in case that a fault occurs in its feeder and it is laid out so that every feeder has complete fault backup through re-switching of its loads to other sources like a main feeder The second is the radial lateral feeder cannot connect its load to an adjacent line, no provision is made for contingency backup of feeders. There are no other circuits in the radial lateral feeder form which to restore power. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of a switch installation between on the radial and loop lateral feeders to increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage. These results can help power utility to design the switch layouts on the radial and loop lateral feeder system.

Change in Cationic Amino Acid Transport System and Effect of Lysine Pretreatment on Inflammatory State in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Cell Model

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a lethal neurological disorder characterized by the deterioration of motor neurons. The aim of this study was to investigate alteration of cationic amino acid transporter (CAT-1) activity in the transport of lysine and the pretreatment effect of lysine on pro-inflammatory states in an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cell line. The mRNA expression of cationic amino acid transporter 1 was lower in NSC-34/hSOD1G93A (MT) than the control cell line (WT), lysine transport is mediated by CAT-1 in NSC-34 cell lines. The uptake of [3H]L-lysine was Na+-independent, voltage-sensitive, and strongly inhibited by inhibitors and substrates of cationic amino acid transporter 1 (system y+). The transport process involved two saturable processes in both cell lines. In the MT cell line, at a high-affinity site, the affinity was 9.4-fold higher and capacity 24-fold lower than that in the WT; at a low-affinity site, the capacity was 2.3-fold lower than that in the WT cell line. Donepezil and verapamil competitively inhibited [3H]L-lysine uptake in the NSC-34 cell lines. Pretreatment with pro-inflammatory cytokines decreased the uptake of [3H]L-lysine and mRNA expression levels in both cell lines; however, the addition of L-lysine restored the transport activity in the MT cell lines. L-Lysine exhibited neuroprotective effects against pro-inflammatory states in the ALS disease model cell lines. In conclusion, studying the alteration in the expression of transporters and characteristics of lysine transport in ALS can lead to the development of new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Evaluation of Curving Performance and Running Safety of New High-Power Electric Locomotive (신형 고출력 전기기관차의 곡선추종성 및 주행안전성 평가)

  • In this study, curve responsiveness was assessed based on the lateral force and running safety was evaluated based on the wheel unloading ratio and derailment coefficient, which is the ratio of the wheel load and the lateral force. The evaluation of the curving performance and running safety of the new high-power electric locomotive showed that the derailment coefficient appeared higher when the wheel-set was set to the front of the train instead of being placed backward, and the maximum value of the derailment coefficient was recorded as 0.572 on the Gyeongbu line. Furthermore, the lateral force increased in curved sections, and it appeared to be proportional to the curve radius. Meanwhile, a maximum axis lateral force of 77.6 kN was recorded on the Taebaek line, and the wheel unloading ratio was 47.6% on the Yeongdong line. Finally, the running safety at the maximum speed as well as the through-curve performance of the curve radius satisfied the required standards.

  • Lateral ballast resistance is one of track components that causes much effects in track buckling. Ballast work or tie renewal if is done the ballast original lateral resistance lose. Reduction of lateral ballast resistance may significantly reduce the stability of track. Lateral ballast resistance that is decreased by these work increases slowly according to the increase of train passing tonnage. We measured the ballast lateral resistance in Okchon station neighborhood in Seoul-Busan line to grasp fluctuation phenomenon of ballast resistance by ballast class-2 work. The rate of decrease of ballast lateral resistance shortly after ballast work and the rate of increase by increase of train passing tonnage were investigated.

  • For the safety of railway, it should be evaluated for the running safety by measuring the derailment coefficient. Although railway has run the fixed and maintained rail, some of railway is derailed. This report shows the results that performed the static load test, wheelset manufacturing for test, main line running test on the basis of the derailment theory and experience. It is executed main line test into more than 80km/h for estimating the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU. As the test results, could confirm the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU from the results of the wheel unloading, lateral force, derailment coefficient etc. Derailment coefficient was less than 0.8, and lateral force allowance limit and wheel load reduction ratio were enough safe.

  • The author analized 17 complete denture patients with lateral cephalometric roentgenograms and following results were obtained: 1. The angle between the Ala tragus line and the occlusal plane was $4.38^{\circ}$. 2. The angle between the Ala tragus line and the Frankfort horizontal plane was $13.68^{\circ}$. 3. The line between the mouth corner and the retromolar pad was more parallel to the occlusal plane than the Ala tragus line.

  • It is almost impossible to have a straight web for processing in the continuous process systems. The cambered web usually causes the strip walking and damage during process. It is necessary to identify the lateral dynamics of the cambered web for the precise control of lateral behavior. In this paper, a dynamic model of the lateral behavior for a cambered web is developed by introducing the concept of steering angle equivalent to moment caused by the camber. This model can be extended to include terms associated with moment, induced by roller's tilting, web slippage, and shear force, etc. Using this model, a new feed-forward controller is proposed to enable the on-line camber estimation, which is difficult to be measured directly, and the prediction of lateral deflection caused by camber. Computer simulation study shows that the proposed controller successfully eliminates the effect of camber and has better control performance than that of the existing PID controller.

  • In this paper the dynamic characteristics of a Swing Motion Bogie, such as a critical speed and a carbody vibration, are investigated in reply to the request of the Meridian Rail Corporation in the United States. Also described are experimental results of the maximum speed, the derailment coefficient, the lateral force, the vertical force, the vibration acceleration and steady state lateral acceleration measured from main line tests.

  • Transmission line analysis of the surface a cumulation layer in injection-enhanced gate transistor (IEGT) is presented for the first time, based on per-unit-length resistance and conductance of the surface layer beneath the gate of IEGT. Lateral electric field on the accumulation layer surface, as well as the electron current injected into the accumulation layer, is governed by the well-known wave equation, and decreases as an exponential function of the lateral distance from the cathode. Unit-length resistance and conductance of the layer are expressed in terms of the device parameters and the applied gate voltage. Results obtained from the experiments are consistent with the numerical simulations.

  • In this paper, measurement and analysis of ELF electric and magnetic fields in the vicinity of 22.9[kV] distribution line have been performed. The height of measuring point from the earth's surface was 1[m], and the distance between the device and the operator was more than 3[m]. The experiments have been carried out by lateral profile, and we have made use of FIELDS program for the sake of comparision the experimental data with the theoretical value. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were strong under a distribution line, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The profiles of electric field were M shape and those of magnetic field were $\cap$ shape. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were increased with increasing the measurement height.
