Elbow joint injuries during exercise mostly occur by repeated stress to the joint than direct trauma. A pitcher who uses his arm above his head is most likely to be injured. So learning the right way to exercise and gaining the strength by maturating the body are essential for diminishing the chance of injury. On lateral ulnar tendon injury, which is most commonly injured area on elbow joint, pitchers generally complain of pain in arm movement above head and reduction of velocity, accuracy, and number of pitching. When there is pain on upper arm in harsh using, the stress fracture must be thought and epicondylar physis fracture of medial arm can occur by repeated abduction stress and contraction of flexors on forearm on children with immature skeleton. Osteochondritis dissecans of capitullum occur in young athletes who use there upper limb continuously lifting weights and gym work. And stress of abduction-extension includes damage of soft tissue and bone components, post medial crush syndrome, lateral ulnar ligament injury, extensor-abductor injury, stress of radius- capitullum are in this category.
Large oro-facial defects result from cancer treatment consequences in serious functional as well as cosmetic deformities. Acceptable cosmetic results usually can be obtained with a facial prosthesis. However, retention of a large facial prosthesis can be challenging because of its size and weight. This article describes prosthetic rehabilitation of a 57-year-old man having a right lateral mid-facial defect with intraoral-extraoral combination prosthesis. A modified technique to fabricate a hollow substructure in heat-polymerizing polymethyl-methacrylate to support silicone facial prosthesis was illustrated. The resultant facial prosthesis was structurally durable and light in weight facilitating the retention with magnets satisfactorily. This technique is advantageous as there is no need to fabricate the whole prosthesis again in case of damage of the silicone layer because the outer silicone layer can be removed and re-packed on the substructure if the gypsum-mold is preserved.
The compression toe of structural wall is designed to resist the axial compression and shear force caused by wind or earthquake. The performance of shear wall used in tall building is highly influenced by combined shear and axial force. For this reason, it is possible to result in local brittle failure because of concentrated damage in the potential plastic hinge region under severe earthquake. Thus, it is necessary to establish the lateral confinement details at the plastic hinge of shear wall so that shear wall can behave a ductile manner, The objective of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of L-shaped walls with different confinement details. For this purpose, three wall specimens were tested experimentally and also analyzed using Nonlinear FEM package.

The reliability of TFT, crystallized by sequential lateral solidification (SLS) technology, has been studied High current damage is characterized by high gate bias (-20V) and drain bias (-10V). It is found that performance of SLS TFTs is enhanced by high current stress up to 300 sec of stress time for 20/8 (W/L) N-TFT. After that, TFT performance is degraded with the increase of the stress time. It is speculated from the experimental data that SLS TFTs initially contain a number of unstable defect states. Then, the defect states seem to be cured by high current stress.
The postbuckling analysis of composite curved panels subjected to lateral loading was conducted by a nonlinear finite clement program, ACOS. Two kinds of graphite/epoxy composite materials, URN300 and USN 125 were tested to verify the finite element analysis. High stiffness composite material, URN300 curved panels showed the critical failure prior to initial buckling. On the contrary USN 125 curved panels showd no severe damage after snap-through. In both panels, the finite element and experimental results showed good agreement.
Domestic insurance claims were statistically investigated to analyze the elderly driver's accident patterns and injury types in side impact crashes. Medical treatment records and accident vehicle damage photos have been surveyed for 5,419 cases. The results of our statistical analysis showed that the thorax injury risk of the elderly drive group is 8.8 and 4.0 times higher than that of the young and middle age group respectively. Diagnosis showed that most thorax injuries were caused by rib fracture. The head injury risk of the elderly female driver group seemed to be higher than that of the younger female driver group, however, statistical test has not been conducted because of the lack of number of samples for elderly female accident.
Offshore structures are exposed to higher probability of collision with ship because of their limited mobility. In general, the consequence of the collision is reported to be relatively small and it is desirable to consider minor collisions in the design stage. It is important to have a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic responses of a tubular, their main member, under collision to design offshore structure against possible accidents. It is needed to estimate the probable extent of damage of a tubular, depth of dent, affected by the time history of impact load in ender to design a tubular strong enough for collision. In this paper, dynamic behaviors of a tubular due to the lateral impact are investigated through the numerical simulations with hydrocode DYNA3D, a three dimensional elasto-plastic large deformation impact contact problem analyzing program.
Reinforced concrete(RC) column-bent piers represent one of the popular piers used in highway bridges of Korea. Seismic performance of RC column-bent piers under bi-directional seismic loadings was experimentally investigated. Six column bent piers were constructed with two circular supporting columns which were made in 400 mm diameter and 2,000 mm height. Test parameters are different transverse reinforcement ratio and loading pattern. Three specimens were loaded with bi-directional lateral forces which were main cyclic loads in the longitudinal direction and sub-cyclic loads in the transverse direction. Other three specimens were loaded in the opposite way. Test results indicated that lateral strength and ductility of the latter specimens were bigger than those of the former specimens. Plastic hinge was formed with the spall of cover concrete and the fracture of the longitudinal reinforcing steels in the bottom part of two supporting columns for the former three specimens. Similar behavior was observed in the top and bottom parts of two supporting columns for the latter three specimens.
Earthquake had occurred in the Korean Peninsula about 2,100 times is not well known in the world. With the true liquefaction judgment is well used to in Korea. Through liquefaction judgements were compared with specifications between Korea and Japan, it would be offered some suggestions for liquefaction judgement used in Korea. The proposals were as 1) It can be known that what kind of earthquake will make unstable state between long-term and short-term earthquake if the natural period of ground turned out. In that case, Hachinohe and Ofunato Earthquake wave will need no more. 2) Liquefaction-induced lateral flow or damage for structure should be estimate but it had not performed in Korea. 3) Heavy rain and ocean wave-induced liquefaction also should be examined thoroughly in slope or ocean, respectively.
This article summarizes tests conducted on two full-scale interior slab-column connections with and without partially debonded reinforcement subjected to cyclic loading. Each test specimen consisted of a 4.2m square slab with a 355mm square column protruding 1.5m above and below the slab. The slab thickness was 152mm. The specimen with partially debonded reinforcement exhibited more lateral drift capacity than did the specimen with fully bonded reinforcement. With partial debonding of the flexural reinforcement, cyclic load appeared to produce less damage to the connection in the vicinity of the slab-column joint region.
