  • In past decades, the themal inkjet (TIJ) printer has been widely used as one of the most well-known digital printing technology due to its low cost, and high printing quality. Since the printing speed of TIJ printers are much slower than that of laser printers, however, there has been intensive efforts to raise the printing speed of TIJ printers. One of the most plausible methods to raise the printing speed of TIJ printers is to adopt a page-wide array TIJ printhead. To accomplish this goal, the high efficiency inkjet heating resistor films should be developed to settle the high power consumption problem of a page-wide array TIJ printhead. In this study, we investigated noble metal based multicomponent thin film resistor films prepared by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for a high efficiency inkjet printhead. Design concept, preparation, material properties of noble metal based multicomponent thin films will be discussed in terms of mutlfunctionality.

  • In this study, the possibility of decision error is investigated to identify and improve the reliability of participants in the process of conducting the sound quality analysis for laser printers. So far, there is not a way to identify and express the possibility of individual participant quantitatively. Thus, the decision error model is proposed which is based on the expectation value between the perceived sounds. Through the experimental verification on the laser printers, it was found that the possibility of decision error is affected according to the normalized difference. The possibility of decision error has inversely proportional to the normalized difference between the perceived sounds. When the normalized difference becomes small value, the uncertainly between decisions is inversely increase, and then it is difficult to obtain the proper result in the process of the jury evaluation for laser printers. For this reason, in this study, the proposed decision error model is added in the previous step of the correlation verification. Comparing to the conventional process only using the correlation based method, after the reliability of each participant is verified, the correlation with the mean response of participants is verified. It was found that the participants who were recognized as having unusual preferences are actually identified as having the reliability problem. Based on the results of this study, the proposed decision error model will be helpful to identify and improve the reliability of participants in the following study for the sound quality analysis.

  • The sound quality based on design optimization, throughout the development process of various electronic office equipments, needs to be considered in order to respond the increased needs for the emotional satisfaction of customers in terms of psycho-acoustics. This paper focuses on how to describe the characteristics of operating sound radiated from laser printers by using various sound attributes, and to model the sound quality index that can properly evaluate the subjective preference on modification conditions in the improvement study quantitatively. Especially, the proposed verification process, in the form of combining the correlation based method and the decision error based method, was applied to improve the generality and reliability of a group of participants in the jury evaluation. The modified Aures tonality model was also proposed to improve the correlation coefficient with the mean response of participants by optimizing some parameters. As a result, the loudness, articulation index, roughness, tonality, fluctuation strength were used to model the sound quality index for laser printers by using the multiple-linear regression method. Through the improvement study, it was confirmed that replacing the absorbing materials is effective to reduce the tonalness radiated from the side of a reference printer model. Based on above results, it can be concluded that the proposed model has enough usefulness as quantitative evaluation index to evaluate the difference between modification conditions in the improvement study.

  • Recent promising technologies of the manufacturing sector interest, and the interest in 3D printing that is expected to cause a huge ripple effect rapidly, and various types of products advertised in accordance with the falling price of 3D printers is spreading. However, the personal 3D printers that are currently being advertised is used for Injection output of the simple type that does not require a high processing precision in accordance with the limitation of technical performance, and consumer satisfaction is very low. In this paper, we propose a 3D printer, 3D precision to overcome existing limitations in the way the printer's high SLA 3D printer that combines injection method and the LSU (Laser Scanning Unit) in the office laser printer polygon mirror scanning method. 3D printers which are proposed to improve the accuracy and manufacturing speed is expected to replace the existing entry-level 3D printer.

  • Proofing is one of the inspection operations of printing and can be considered a process control step. The three main kinds of proofs are press proofs, photomechanical proofs, and digital proofs. Photomechanical and digital proofs are also generally refered to as "off-press" proofs. Off-press color proofs are more economical than press proofs. Digital proofs offer fast production time along with a much lower cost per page. Hard-copy digital proofs can be output using thermal transfer printers, ink jet printers, and color laser copiers, as well as dye sublimation and electrophotographic technology. Ink jet method is commonly using because of the reasonal price. But ink jet system is difficult to reproduce an exact color proof. This research was carried out for the purpose of optimization of ink jet color proofing, using two kinds of ink jet printers with 6 colors (C, M, Y, K, mC, mM) and 4 colors (C, M, Y, K) system.

  • Low-aberration holographic scanners that eliminate the need for lenses and mirrors promise to greatly reduce the cost of laser printers and image scanners. In this study, a holographic optical element that can simultaneously scan and focus a laser beam is designed with analytic ray tracing method. An analytic and experimental work is conducted in which we investigated the hologram structure and hologon configuration for linear aberration-free scanning. For a prototype scanner, a He-Ne laser is used to manufacture and reconstruct the hologram, and the measured bow is about $\pm$133$\mu\textrm{m}$ and spot size(half-intensity beamwidth) in under 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ for a 300 mm scan length without using a correcting lens or mirror. The diffraction efficiency is about 55$\pm$5%, which is acceptably flat. The experimentally measured results agrees with the computed values. From this fact, we can conclude that the computed results using ray tracing method are practical and useful values, and have a potential for use in high resolution laser printers.

  • In light of recently developed 3D printers for rapid prototyping, there is increasing attention on the 3D scanner as a 3D data acquisition system for an existing object. This paper presents a prototypical 3D scanner based on a striped laser light image. In order to solve the problem of shadowy areas, the proposed 3D scanner has two cameras with one laser light source. By using a horizontal rotation table and a rotational arm rotating about the latitudinal axis, the scanner is able to scan in all directions. To remove an additional optical filter for laser light pixel extraction of an image, we have adopted a differential image method with laser light modulation. Experimental results show that the scanner's 3D data acquisition performance exhibited less than 0.2 mm of measurement error. Therefore, this scanner has proven that it is possible to reconstruct an object's 3D surface from point cloud data using a 3D scanner, enabling reproduction of the object using a commercially available 3D printer.

  • In this study, we investigate the injection molding of f-theta lens, an important element of the laser scanning unit of laser printers and scanning systems. The f-theta lens is an aspherical plastic lens that must be molded with a precision of seconds. An injection molding method is often used for mass producing aspherical plastic lenses at a low cost. In the injection molding process, costs related to forming and injection are included. Therefore, in this study, to determine the shrinkage and deformation of injection molded f-theta lens, we predict the pressure and temperature distributions. Further, based on the analysis of the predictions, we maximize the design efficiency and verify the cost and development period reduction.
