The finite element analysis of metal forming processes often fails because of severe mesh distortion at large deformation. As the concept of meshless methods, only nodal point data are used for modeling and solving. As the main feature of these methods, the domain of the problem is represented by a set of nodes, and a finite element mesh is unnecessary. This computational methods reduces time-consuming model generation and refinement effort. It provides a higher rate of convergence than the conventional finite element methods. The displacement shape functions are constructed by the reproducing kernel approximation that satisfies consistency conditions. In this research, A meshless method approach based on the reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM) is applied with metal forming analysis. Numerical examples are analyzed to verify the performance of meshless method for metal forming analysis.

The large planar failure has occurred in a rock cut slope of highway construction site in Boeun. This area is considered as unstable since the discontinuities whose orientations are similar to the orientation of the failure plane, are observed in many areas. Therefore, several analysis techniques such as SMR, stereographic analysis, limit equilibrium, numerical analysis, which are commonly used in rock slope stability analysis, are adopted in this area. In order to analyze the stress redistribution and nonlinear displacement caused by cut, which are not obtained in limit equilibrium method, the UDEC and shear strength reduction technique were used in this study Then the factors of safety evaluated by shear strength reduction technique and limit equilibrium were compared. In addition, the factor of safety under fully saturated slope condition was calculated and subsequently, the effect of the reinforcement was evaluated.

Electromagnetic forces generate vibrations in the end-winding of large generators. A finite element analysis using a commercial S/W is performed to calculate electromagnetic force of end-winding in two pole generator for 500 MW fossil power plant. Also, this paper presents analytical and experimental modal analysis results of generator end- winding. Using validated FE model, 3D electromagnetic model which computes the forces on the end-winding is coupled with a 3D mechanical model which calculates the dynamic displacement and stress under electromagnetic forces. These results will be used to evaluate reliability of end-winding and applied to update model.

A motion analysis of an underwater towed cable is a complex task due to its nonlinear nature of the problem. The major source of the nonlinearity of the underwater cable analysis is that the motion of the cable involves large rigid-body motion. This large rigid-body motion makes difficult to use standard displacement-based finite element method. In this paper, the authors apply recently developed nodal position-based finite element method which can deal with the geometric nonlinearity due to the large rigid-body motion. In order to enhance the stability of the large-scale nonlinear cable motion simulation, an efficient time-integration scheme is proposed, namely predictor/multi-corrector Newmark scheme. Three different predictors are introduced, and the best predictor in terms of stability and robustness for impulsive cable motion analysis is proposed. As a result, the nonlinear motion of underwater cable is predicted in a very efficient manner compared to the classical finite element of finite difference methods. The efficacy of the method is demonstrated with several test cases, involving static and dynamic motion of a single cable element, and also under water towed cable composed of multiple cable elements.
The EV electric vehicle market is growing rapidly worldwide. An electric vehicle means a vehicle that uses energy charged through an electricity source as power. The precision of the press is important to mass-produce the drive motor, which is a key component of the electric vehicle. The size of the driving motor is increasing, and The size of the mold is also growing. In this study, the precision of large high-speed presses for mass production of driving motors was measured. A study was conducted on the measurement method of press and the analysis of measurement data. A drive motor is a component that transmits power by converting electrical energy into kinetic energy. EV driven motors have key material properties to improve efficiency. The material properties are the thickness of the material. As a method for improving performance, use a 0.2mm thin steel sheet. Mold is also becoming larger. As the mold grows, the size of the high-speed press for mass production of the driving motor is also increasing. Also, the precision of the press is the most important because it uses a thin iron plate material. So the importance of large press precision is being emphasized. In this study, the effect of large high-speed press structure on precision was verified
Up to now single large cavern was excavated for each undergroud hydraulic powerhouse in Korea. But the Yangyang underground hydraulic powerhouse consists of two large caverns; a powerhouse cavern and main transformer cavern. In this carte, the structural stability of the caverns, especially the rock pillar formed between two large caverns, should be guaranteed to be sound to make the caverns permanently sustainable. In this research, the Distinct Element Method(DEM) was used to analyze the structural stability of two caverns and the rock pillar. The Barton-Bandis joint model was used as a constitutive model. The moot significant parameters such as in-site stress, JRC of in-situ natural joints, and spatial distribution characteristics of discontinuities were acquired through field investigation. In addition, two different cases; 1) with no support system and 2) with a support system, were analysed to optimize a support system and to investigate reinforcing effects of a support system. The results of analysis horizontal displacement and joint shear displacement proved to be reduced with the support system. The relaxed zone in the rock pilar also proved to be reduced in conjunction with the support system. Having a support system in place provided the fact that the non zero minimum principal stresses were still acting in the rock pillar so that the pillar was not under uniaxial compressive condition but under triaxial compressive condition. The structural stability f an approximately 36 m wide rock pillar between two large caverns was assured with the appropriate support system.
Purpose: We studied magnetic resonance imaging of acromion morphology and superior displacement of the humeral head in the patients with diagnosis of rotator cuff impingement syndrome, and also documented the relationship of type Ⅲ acromion to the rotator cuff tear. Materials and Methods: We reviewed retrospectively 40 patients(40 shoulders) who had arthroscopic treatment for the diagnosis of stage II impingement or rotator cuff partial tear and did not have other risk lesions except acromion factor. The mean age was 48.7 years at operation. 21 men(2l shoulders), mean age of 26 years, were used as controls. Acromial type, tilt, and superior displacement of humeral head in sagittal plane, and acromial lateral angulation in coronal plane were measured. Four parameters of the patients were compared with those of control group. And then, the data were subdivided and analyzed with respect to acromial type and patient age in the impingement group. Student t test and multi-way ANOVA were used. Results: In impingement group, Farley's type I acromion, 33%, type Ⅱ, 38%, type Ⅲ, 27% and type Ⅳ, 2%. Superior displacement of humeral head( 4.8mm) were characteristic in the impingement group compared with the control group(1.3mm)(p<0.05). But acromial tilt and lateral angulation were not statistically different. In the analysis of the impingement group, the change of 4 parameters was not significant with respect to age(p>0.05), but lateral angulation in type I acromion(18 degree) and superior displacement of humeral head in type Ⅲ acromion(6.3mm) were significantly increased(p<0.05). All 4 parameters were not different between two subdivided types of type Ⅲ acromion. Conclusion: All types of acromian and large lateral angulatian cauld develop impingement syndrame, but acromial tilt was nat risk factar. Appearance of type Ⅲ acromian and increased superiar displacement of humeral head were characteristic findings in the impingement syndrame. Superiar displacement of humeral head as a result of degenerative change of rotatar cuff was probably primary cause far impingement. The type Ⅲ acromian might be an acquired farm, which cauld be expected to accelerate the tear of rotatar cuff as a cansequence.

In the development of sheet-handling machinery, it is important to predict the static and dynamic behavior of the sheets with a high degree of reliability. Flexible media is very thin, very light and very flexible so it behaves geometric nonlinearity of large displacement and large rotation but small strain. In this paper, static and dynamic analyses of flexible media are performed by dynamic FEM considering geometric nonlinearity. Mass and tangent stiffness matrices based on the Co-rotational(CR) approach are derived and numerical simulations are performed by full Newton-Raphson(FNR) method and Newmark integration scheme.
The numerical techniques are presented to solve the static and dynamic contact problems of deformable bodies having large rotations of the contact surfaces. The contact conditions on the possible contact surfaces are enforced by using the contact error vector, and an iterative scheme similar to augmented Lagrange multiplier method is employed to reduce the contact error vector monotonically. For dynamic contact problems using implicit time integration, a contact error vector is also defined by combining the displacement, velocity, and acceleration on the contact surface. The suggested iterative technique is implemented to ABAQUS by using the UEL subroutine UEL. In this work, after the computing procedures to solve the frictional contact problems are explained, the numerical examples are presented to compare the present solutions with those obtained by ABAQUS.

Steel box girders are popular to the Practicing engineers for the its large Pure torsional constant. But closed box girders at-e susceptible to the eccentric loading due to the distortion of the cross section. Distorton of the box girder develops the warping normal stress and transverse flexural stress in the cross section and their magnitudes can be large unless internal diaphragms are installed sufficiently. In this study, stiffness matrix and equivalent nodal force vector are formulated on the basis of displacement method. Shape functions are directly derived from the homogeneous solution of the governing differential equation of the distortion. New finite element formulations were coded into a computer program. Several numerical examples were presented to show the validity of developed program.
