CDMA(code division multiple access) has very large peak to average power ratio(PAR) and behave as noise-like wide band digital signals with 1.2288 Mbps transmission rate. For signals with high PAR like CDMA, it is reasonable to prescribe occupied bandwidth(OBW) as average occupied bandwidth. Bandwidth measurements of CDMA signals at remote site are affected by co-channel and adjacent channel interference from adjacent CDMA base station, distortion of signal by fading effect, spurious emission and environment noises. In this study, we have compared OBW measurements in an on-air environment with those measured in a base station using adjacent channel leakage ratio(ACLR) as a reference measurement factor. As results of analysis, the OBW at ACLR$\geq$35 ㏈ shows nearly same statistical characteristics regardless of the measurement locations and environments.
In this paper, we explore two ways to improve the bandwidth assurance performance of Assured Service(AS). It is well known that AS fails to meet the bandwidth assurance target for large-profile TCP flows competing with many small-profile flows. This flows after the back-offs induced by packet drops. Thus currently proposed solution to this problem naturally focus on modifying TCP's behavior to counter the unfairness in the TCP dynamics. Unfortunately, these proposals lack practicability in terms of the required changes in the incumbent Internet infrastructure. Admitting this difficulty, we instead look to not yet deployed Diff-Serv mechanisms for practical solutions. In particular, we investigate the role of RIO, RED with IN(in-profile) and OUT(out-profile), queue management scheme in the assurance failure for As. Specifically, we identify the inadequacy of RIO that aggravates the bandwidth assurance failure. Then we alleviates the bandwidth assurance failure problem by separately controlling the out-of-profile packet queue length. Through extensive simulations we demonstrate that RI+O extends the regime where AS consistently provides the bandwidth assurance.
Recently, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) was applied to VLC systems owing to its high rate capability. On the other hand, a real-valued unipolar OFDM signal for VLC significantly reduces bandwidth efficiency. For practical implementation, channel estimation is required for data demodulation, which causes a further decrease in spectral efficiency. In addition, the large fluctuation of an OFDM signal results in poor illumination quality, such as chromaticity changes. This paper proposes a spectrally efficient method based on a hidden-pilot-aided precoding technology for VLC with less flickering than a conventional OFDM-based method. This approach can obtain channel information without any loss of bandwidth efficiency while ensuring illumination quality by reducing the flickering effect of an OFDM-based VLC. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides a 6.4% gain in bandwidth efficiency with a 4% reduction in flicker compared to a conventional OFDM-based method.
This paper presents a control bandwidth extension method for inverters with a low carrier ratio. The bandwidth is extended at the price of decreasing the phase margin. Then the phase margin is compensated by introducing an extra leading angle into an inverse Park transformation. The model of the controller with the proposed method is established. The magnitude and phase characteristics are also analyzed. Then the influence on system stability when the leading angle is introduced is analyzed. The proposed method is applied to design an inverter controller with both a large bandwidth and a desired phase margin, and the experimental results verify that the controller performs well in the steady-state and in terms of transient response.
Modern computers provide tremendous computing capability and a large memory system. Hybrid memories consist of next generation memory devices and are adopted in high performance systems. However, the increased complexity of the microprocessor makes it difficult to operate the system effectively. In this paper, we propose a simple data migration method called Bandwidth-aware Data Migration (BDM) to efficiently use memory systems for high performance processors with hybrid memory. BDM monitors the status of applications running on the system using hardware performance monitoring tools and migrates the appropriate pages of selected applications to High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). BDM selects applications whose bandwidth usages are high and also evenly distributed among the threads. Experimental results show that BDM improves execution time by an average of 20% over baseline execution.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks consume the most bandwidth in the current Internet and file sharing accounts for the majority of the P2P traffic. Thus it is important for a P2P file sharing application to be efficient in bandwidth consumption. Bandwidth consumption as much as downloaded file sizes is inevitable, but those in file search and bad downloads, e.g. wrong, corrupted, or malicious file downloads, are overheads. In this paper, we target to reduce these overheads even in the presence of high volume of malicious users and their bad files. Sybil attacks are the example of such hostile environment. Sybil attacker creates a large number of identities (Sybil nodes) and unfairly influences the system. When a large portion of the system is subverted, either in terms of the number of users or the number of files shared in the system, the overheads due to the bad downloads rapidly increase. We propose ELiSyR, a file search protocol that can tolerate such a hostile environment. ELiSyR uses social networks for P2P file search and finds benign files in 71% of searches even when more than half of the users are malicious. Furthermore, ELiSyR provides similar success with less bandwidth than other general efforts against Sybil attacks. We compare our algorithm to SybilGuard, SybilLimit and EigenTrust in terms of bandwidth consumption and the likelihood of bad downloads. Our algorithm shows lower bandwidth consumption, similar chances of bad downloads and fairer distribution of computation loads than these general efforts. In return, our algorithm takes more rounds of search than them. However the time required for search is usually much less than the time required for downloads, so the delay in search is justifiable compared to the cost of bad downloads and subsequent re-search and downloads.
Wireless Mesh Networks aim to attain large connectivity with minimum performance degradation, as network size is increase. As such, scalability is one of the main characteristics of Wireless Mesh Networks that differentiates it from other wireless networks. This characteristic creates the need for bandwidth efficiency strategies to ensure that network performance does not degrade as the size of the network increase. Several researches have been done to realize mesh networks. However, the researches conducted were mostly focused on a per TCP/IP layer basis. Also, the studies on bandwidth efficiency and bandwidth improvement are usually dealt with as separate issues. This paper aims to simultaneously study bandwidth efficiency and improvement. Aside from optimizing the bandwidth given a fixed capacity, the capacity is also increased using results of physical layer studies. In this paper, the capacity is improved by using the concept of non-overlapping channels for wireless communication. A channel allocation scheme is conceptualized to choose the transmission channel that would optimize the network performance parameters with consideration of chosen Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. Network utility maximization is used to optimize the bandwidth after channel selection. Furthermore, a routing scheme is proposed using the results of the network utilization method and the channel allocation scheme to find the optimal path that would maximize the network gain.
Transmission control protocol friendly rate control (TFRC) is designed to mainly provide optimal service for unicast applications, such as multimedia streaming in the best-effort Internet environment. However, high bandwidth networks with large delays present an environment where TFRC may have a problem in utilizing the full bandwidth. TFRC inherits the slow-start mechanism of TCP Reno, but this is a time-consuming process that may require many round-trip-times (RTTs), until an appropriate sending rate is reached. Another disadvantage inherited from TCP Reno is the RTT-unfairness problem, which severely affects the performance of long-RTT flows. In this paper, we suggest enhanced TFRC for high quality video streaming over high bandwidth delay product networks. First, we propose a fast startup scheme that increases the data rate more aggressively than the slow-start, while mitigating the overshooting problem. Second, we propose a bandwidth estimation method to achieve more equitable bandwidth allocations among streaming flows that compete for the same narrow link with different RTTs. Finally, we improve the responsiveness of TFRC in the presence of severe congestion. Simulation results have shown that our proposal can achieve a fast startup and provide fairness with competing flows compared to the original TFRC.
