The adsorption of methyl green dye using an activated carbon from an aqueous solution was investigated. Adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of the adsorbent dose, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The Langmuir isotherm model showed a good fit to the equilibrium adsorption data. Based on the estimated Langmuir separation factor, ($R_L=0.02{\sim}0.106$), this process could be employed as the effective treatment (0 < $R_L$ < 1). It was found that the adsorption was a physical process with the adsorption energy (E) value range between 316.869 and 340.049 J/mol obtained using Dubinin-Radushkevich equation. The isothermal saturation capacity obtained from brunauer emmett teller (BET) model increased with increasing the temperature. The kinetics of adsorption followed a pseudo second order model. The free energy and enthalphy values of -5.421~-7.889 and 31.915 kJ/mol, respectively indicated that the adsorption process follows spontaneous endothermic reaction. The isosteric heat of adsorption increased with the increase of equilibrium adsorption amounts, and the total interaction of the adsorbent - adsorbate increased as the surface coverage increased.
Magnetic activated carbon was prepared by adding a magnetic material to activated carbon that had been prepared from waste citrus peel in Jeju. The adsorption characteristics of an aqueous solution of the antibiotic trimethoprim (TMP) were investigated using the magnetic activated carbon, as an adsorbent, and response surface methodology (RSM). Batch experiments were carried out according to a four-factor Box-Behnken experimental design affecting TMP adsorption with their input parameters (TMP concentration: 50~150 mg/L; pH: 4~10; temperature: 293~323 K; adsorbent dose: 0.05~0.15 g). The significance of the independent variables and their interaction was assessed by ANOVA and t-test statistical techniques. Statistical results showed that TMP concentration was the most effective parameter, compared with others. The adsorption process can be well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental isotherm data followed the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities of TMP, estimated with the Langmuir isotherm model were 115.9-130.5 mg/g at 293-323 K. Also, both the thermodynamic parameters, ΔH and ΔG, have both positive values, indicating that the adsorption of TMP by the magnetic activated carbon is an endothermic reaction and proceeds via an involuntary process.
The isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic parameters of reactive blue 4 adsorbed by activated carbon were investigated for activated carbon dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time, and temperature data. The adsorption of the RB 4 dye by activated carbon showed a concave shape in which the percentage of adsorption increased in both directions starting from pH 7. The isothermal adsorption data were applied to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms. Both Freundlich and Langmuir isothermal adsorption models fit well. From determined Freundlich separation factor (1/n = 0.125 ~ 0.232) and Langmuir separation factor (RL = 1.53 ~ 1.59), adsorption of RB 4 by activated carbon could be employed as an effective treatment method. The constant related to the adsorption heat (BT = 2.147 ~ 2.562 J mol-1) of Temkin showed that this process was physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model with good agreement. The results of the intraparticle diffusion model showed that the inclination of the first straight line representing the surface diffusion was smaller than that of the second straight line representing the intraparticle pore diffusion. Therefore, it was confirmed that intraparticle pore diffusion is the rate-controlling step. The negative Gibbs free energy change (ΔG = -3.262 ~ -7.581 kJ mol-1) and the positive enthalpy change (ΔH = 61.08 kJ mol-1) indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process, proving this process to be spontaneous and endothermic.

Biomass of non-living brown seaweed Sargassun fluitans pretreated with NaOH is capable of taking up more than $10\%$$(q_{max}$ : 3.85 mmol/g for Al and 1.48 mmol/g for Cu) of its dry weight in the Al and Cu at pH of 4.5. However, the maximum Al and Cu uptakes calculated from Langmuir isotherm were 1.58 mmol/g for Al and 1.35 mmol/g for Cu at pH 3.5. Equilibrium batch sorption study was performed using two-metal system containing Al and Cu. The mathematical model of the two-metal sorption system enabled quantitative estimation of one-metal biosorption inhibition due to the influence of a second metal. NaOH-treated S. fluitans contained 2.19 mmol $(43\;wt.\%)$ carboxyl groups per gram of biomass. A modified form of Langmuir, which assumes binding of Cu as $Cu^{2+}$ and Al as $Al(OH)_2^+,$ was used to model the experimental data. This result agrees with the one of mono-valent sorption for Al in single-metal system. The modified Langmuir model gives the following affinity correlated coefficients: 0.196 for Cu and 6.820 for Ah at pH 4.5, and 2.904 for Cu and 3.131 for Al at pH 3.5. The interference of Al in Cu biosorptive uptake was assessed by `cutting' the three dimensional uptake isotherm surfaces at constant second-metal final concentrations. Equimolar final equilibrium concentrations of Cu and Al of 1 mM at pH 4.5 give Cu and hi uptakes reduced by $82.5\%\;and\;5.4\%,$ respectively. However, these values at pH 3.5 were $55\%\;(Cu)\;and\;31\%$ (Al).

The objective of this study lies in identifying the applicability of zeolite for the removal of wastewater ammonium and nitrate nitrogens. To this end, the author tracked adsorption variations as seen with the adsorption removal of wastewater ammonium and nitrate nitrogens. As a result, it was indicated that the maximum adsorption of zeolite acting on the adsorption removal of ammonium nitrogen would reach 120mg/g (weight of ammonium nitrogen divided by that of zeolite), and that Langmuir adsorption isotherm explained the adsorption of ammonium and nitrate nitrogens better than Freundlich adsorption isotherm. This means that zeolite makes ion exchanges with adsorbate for unilayer adsorption. It was also indicated that the removal efficiency of ammonium nitrogen with varying pH would be higher in the order of pH7 > pH5 > pH9 > pH3.
It is of importance to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) in solution which was leached from nickel laterite ore. In order to investigate the possibility of separating Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II), adsorption behavior of the three metals from individual and mixed sulfate solutions was investigated by using Diphonix resin. The concentration of each metal in solution was fixed at 100 ppm and the pH of the sulfuric acid solution was changed from 5 to 7. At ambient temperature, the adsorption behavior of the three metal ions followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The loading capacity of Diphonix resin for the three metal ions was obtained from the Langmuir isotherm. Since adsorption behavior of the three metal ions from the mixed solution was similar to each other, it was found to be difficult to separate Ni(II) and Co(II) from Mg(II) by using Diphonix resin.

In this study, a electrostatic filter which could be applicable to road environment was developed and evaluated in adsorption capacity. The evaluation were performance for removal by particle size and adsorption amount by pressure using ASERAE 52.1 and 52.2. The range of size for removal test was $0.3{\mu}m{\sim}10.0{\mu}m$ which had 12 steps. The filter showed 91.3% removal efficiency from $2.5{\mu}m$ and under the size, average 53.5% proportional to decreasing size value. The weight removal was 96.7% from 22.6 mmaq, initial pressure to 35 mmaq, end pressure with $715.9g/m^2$, the adsorption amount. The shape of isotherm was expressed as Langmuir's one. After washing saturated filter with dust to end pressure, the initial pressure and adsorption amount of the filter showed a light drop with no removal efficiency decline.
Inhibition effects of histidine (His), methionine (Met) on the corrosion of nickel were investigated in deaerated 0.5 M HCl and 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ solution. All the inhibition efficiency for the nickel corrosion depended on the anodic inhibition. Amino acid adsorption process on nickel surface in the solution of HCl can be explained by modified Langmuir isotherm, however, in the solution of $H_2SO_4$ by Temkin logarithmic isotherm due to the interaction between the adsorbed molecules. The molecule of histidine dissolved in HCl-solution were physically adsorbed due to the electrostatic interaction between the surface of {$Ni-Cl^-$} and the {$-NH{_3}^+$} and {$-NH^+=$} of His. However the other cases of adsorption in this investigation can be explained by chemical adsorption between the empty d-orbital of Ni and the lone pair of electron in His and Met.

Carbonaceous adsorbent (CA-WTP) was prepared by heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in N2 atmosphere using waste tire powder (WTP). WTP and CA-WTP were first characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), specific surface area analysis (BET) and FT-IR spectroscopy. Then, they were tested as adsorbents for removal of Cd in water. CA-WTP exhibited much higher specific surface area and total pore volume than WTP itself and showed higher adsorption capacity for Cd. Equilibrium data of adsorption were analyzed using Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was seen that both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms have correlation coefficient $R^2$ value larger than 0.95. The results of studies indicate that CA-WTP developed from WTP by heat treatment could be used as efficient adsorbent for the removal Cd from water.
The aim of this work was to investigate the adsorption isotherm and kinetic model for the biosorption of lead $(Pb^{2+})$ by Rhodotorula aurantiaca and to examine the environmental factors for this metal removal. Within five minutes of contact, $Pb^{2+}$ sorption reached nearly 86% of the total $Pb^{2+}$ sorption. The optimum initial pH value for removal of $Pb^{2+}$ was 5.0. The percentage sorption increased steeply with the biomass concentration up to 2 g/l and thereafter remained more or less constant. The Langmuir sorption model provided a good fit throughout the concentration range. The conformity of these data to the Langmuir model indicated that biosorption of $Pb^{2+}$ by R. aurantiaca could be characterized as a monolayer, single-site type phenomenon with no interaction between ions adsorbed in neighboring sites. The maximum $Pb^{2+}$ sorption capacity $(q_{max})$ and Langmuir constant (b) were 46.08 mg/g of biomass and 0.04 l/mg, respectively. The pseudo second-order equation was well fitted to the experimental data. The correlation coefficients for the linear plots of t/q against t for the second-order equation were 0.999 for all the initial concentrations of biosorbent for contact times of 180 min. The theoretical $q_{eq}$ value was very close to the experimental $q_{eq}$ value.
