고령운전자를 고려한 도시부 교차로 기하구조 개선방안에 관한 연구 (Higher Accident Rates for Older Drivers at Specific Urban Intersections Study on the Improvement of the Road Geometry)

  • PURPOSES : With the increasing number of older drivers in an aging society, there is a growing need for research and planning on traffic safety for the older drivers using an improved road geometry design. This study also proposed a modified urban road interchange design, which aims to keep the older drivers away from accident-prone and high-traffic areas of the city. METHODS : In this study, we examined accident data records of older drivers to identify accident-prone zones and intersections; we studied the road geometry at these zones and analyzed if it was an underlying cause for higher number of accidents. Based on the research and subsequent analysis, we suggested plans for improvement of road geometry design at these intersections. RESULTS :By studying historic data and analyzing factors that affect the likelihood of accidents of vehicles driven by older drivers and after studying suitable traffic accident prediction models, we identified the major variables that need to be modified at accident-prone intersections, such as the width of a left turn lane at an intersection and the radius of the right turn lane at a street corner. The results have a significance probability of less than 0.001 and a 95% confidence level. To improve safety at the identified intersection, this study suggests the installation of a left-turn-lane-shaped Positive Offset and a right-turn-lane-shaped Slip Lane concept and an adjustment of intervals between intersections.

Research on no coal pillar protection technology in a double lane with pre-set isolation wall

  • There are various technical problems need to be solved in the construction process of pre-setting an isolation wall into a double lane in the outburst prone mine. This study presents a methodology that pre-setting an isolation wall into a double lane without a coal pillar. This requires the excavation of two small section roadways to dig a wide section roadway, followed by construction of the separation wall. During this process the connecting lane is reserved. In order to ensure the stability of the separation wall, the required bearing capacity of the isolation wall is 4.66 MN/m and the deformation of the isolation wall is approximately 25 cm. To reduce the difficulty of implementing support the roadway is driven by 5 m/d. After the construction of the separation wall, the left side coal wall is brushed 1.5 m to make the width of the gas roadway reach 2.5 m and the roadway support utilizes anchor rod, ladder beam, anchor cable beam and net configuration. During construction, the concrete pump and removable self-propelled hydraulic wall mold are used to pump and pour the concrete of the isolation wall. In the process of mining, the stress distribution of coal body and isolation wall is detected and measured on site. The results demonstrate that the deformation of the surrounding rock of roadway and separation of roof in the roadway is small. The stress of the bolt and anchor cable is within equipment tolerance validating their selection. The roadway is well supported and the intended goal is achieved. The methodology can be used for reference for similar mine gas control.

경관 시뮬레이션을 통한 가로 녹시율 증진방안 및 목표수준 설정 - 서울시를 사례로 - (The Methods of Promoting Greenness and the Target Levels of Greenness in Streetscape Suggested by Computer Simulation - The Case of Seoul -)

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest the planting methods and the reasonable target levels of IGS for promoting green streetscape in Seoul. Using the three dimensional computer simulations, various greening methods were applied to evaluate effectiveness of promoting green streetscape. The results of this study suggest that promoting tree planting on car lane is more effective than on pedestrian side walks. In wide streets, the height of tree has positive effects on promoting green streetscape. In both car lane and pedestrian side walks, the greening effects of tree planting both in zig-zag pattern and in parallel pattern were similarly most high. The width of strip in side strip planting has positive effect on promoting green streetscape. Promoting stratified planting is very effective. Promoting greening wall on pedestrian side walks is more effective than on car lane. Combined the results of IGS survey with the public officials and complex simulations, suggest that the optimal levels of IGS is ranging from 12.0% in alleys to 54.0% in car lanes among arterial roads.

토지이용별 로터리 및 회전교차로 사고율 모형개발 및 논의 (Modeling and Discussing the Accident Rate Model of Rotary and Roundabout by Type of Land Use)

  • Rotary that causes traffic delays and safety issues by high-speed entry vehicles is currently being improved to roundabout. The operational difference between rotary and roundabout can cause driver's confusion and traffic accident. The purpose of this study is to develop the accident rate models which explain the factors related to the accidents by land use and intersection type. The main results are as follows. First, the null hypotheses that the type of land use and two intersections do not affect the accident rate are rejected. Second, the conflicting factors such as the number of crosswalk and bicycle lane should be carefully considered to reduce traffic accident at rotary. In the case of roundabout, greater than 3.5 m in circulatory lane width and two circulatory lane are analyzed to be important to prevent the accidents. Finally, the commercial and mixed areas are evaluated to be weak to traffic accidents than residential area.

국내 4지 원형교차로 법규위반별 사고모형 개발 (Development of Accident Model by Traffic Violation Type in Korea 4-legged Circular Intersections)

  • This study deals with the traffic accident of circular intersections. The purpose of the study is to develop the accident models by traffic violation type. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to analyzing various factors that influence traffic accident and developing such the optimal models as Poisson and Negative binomial regression models. The main results are the followings. First, 4 negative binomial models which were statistically significant were developed. This was because the over-dispersion coefficients had a value greater than 1.96. Second, the common variables in these models were not adopted. The specific variables by model were analyzed to be traffic volume, conflicting ratio, number of circulatory lane, width of circulatory lane, number of traffic island by access road, number of reduction facility, feature of central island and crosswalk.

  • This paper proposes detection method of vehicles using camera for auto-vehicle-system. Detection method is based on shadow detection and symmetric feature of vehicle. This method consists of three part. First is lane detection. By lane detection, we can reduce the area for vehicle detection. Second part is shadow detection. Shadow has information of vehicle width and position. Third part is symmetry. This feature is helpful for confirming the vehicle.

국도상 교통사고 심각도에 영향을 미치는 횡단구성 요소 분석 (Analysis of Road Cross Section Component Affecting Traffic Accident Severity on National Highway)

  • According to traffic accidents statistics, the number of fatalities, injuries and the rate of increase of traffic accidents have been decreasing over last 5-years. The fatality rate is 1.9 for total accidents but the fatality rate for single vehicle accidents shows a 7.9, which is 4 times greater than the average for all accidents. Single vehicle accidents, usually occur as a vehicle impacts a fixed objects on the roadside as the vehicle runs-off from the road. However, few researches have been conducted considering the accident severity of single vehicle accidents which impact to the fixed objects on the road. The single vehicle accident is directly related to the composition of road cross section, (since it is the required the minimum width of a road for all run-off-the-road vehicles to recover or come to a safe stop). Therefore, this study analyzes the influence of road cross section on traffic accidents to find out the severity of single vehicle accident. To analyze the road elements which are related to the accident severity, the Ordered Probit Model was used. As variables, the element of road cross section such as the radius(m), vertical curve(%), cross sectional grade(%), road width(m). number of climbing lane, median, and curb, were used (as was the 3-years of accidents data). This study found out that cross slope(%), road width(m), and the number of climbing lane are related to the severity of accident. The result of this study could be expected to improve the road safety and to be used as the base data for further road safety research.

도시부 신호교차로의 기본용량 및 기하구조 보정계수 (Ideal Saturation Flow Rate and Geometric Adjustment Factors at Urban Signalized Intersection)

  • This research presets the method of determining basic capacity of signalized intersection using the concept of ideal saturation flow rate. Vehicle discharge rates during green time were collected and studied as part of the preparation of Korean Highway Capacity Manual. From the result of this study the ideal saturation flow rate and saturation queue position were determined. In addition, based on the ideal saturation flow rate two geometric adjustment factors(lane width and grade adjustment factors) were studied. The results were presented in this paper.

예방적 최소단면 보수공법 적용 아스팔트 도로포장의 유지관리 비용분석 (An Analysis of Maintenance Cost of Preventive Optimized-Rehabilitation Area Method in Asphalt Concrete Pavement)

  • 본 논문에서는 예방적 유지보수 공법으로서 최소단면 보수공법의 경제성을 분석하였다. 최소단면 보수공법은 차량의 주행 특성을 근거로 하여 적용하였다. 최소단면 보수공법의 한 차로당 유효보수범위는 각 차륜 통과부인 70 cm이며, 주행차량 특성 분석에 따르면 각 차륜통과 범위 내에서 95%이상의 차량이 주행한다. 최소단면 보수공법은 기존의 유지보수공법보다 유지보수비용이 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며 교통정체 감소에 따른 사용자 비용도 감소한다. 본 연구결과 총 유지보수비용은 최소단면 보수공법을 적용함으로서 기존의 유지보수공법에 비해 35%감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

연립방정식을 이용한 운전유형별 회전교차로 사고모형 (Simultaneous Equation Models for Evaluating Roundabout Accidents According to Different Driving Types)

  • 이 연구는 회전교차로의 교통사고를 다루고 있다. 연구의 목적은 연립방정식을 이용한 회전교차로의 운전유형별 교통사고모형을 구축하는데 있다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 국내 회전교차로 39개소에서 발생한 148건의 사고자료와 통계 프로그램인 SPSS 17.0을 이용하였다. 또한 사고모형은 2SLS(2단계 최소자승) 추정법을 이용하여 구축하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사고건수와 EPDO는 쌍방적 관계를 갖는 것으로 평가되었다. 둘째, 운전유형별로 개발된 6개의 연립방정식은 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 개발된 모형은 공통변수와 특정변수를 사용하여 비교 분석되었다. 마지막으로 독립변수에는 ADT, 상충비, 중차량 비율, 회전차로 폭, 회전차로 수, 접근로 차로폭, 접근로 평균 차로 수, 주차시설 유무 및 정류장 유무가 채택되었다.
