Analysis of Perceptual , Cognitive, and Motoral Characteristics and their Effects on Driving Performance (운전자의 운전수행과 관련된 지각적, 인지적 특성분석 및 그 특성이 운전에 미치는 영향분석)

  • A fixed type driving simulator is constructed with a car body, beam projector, operation software , driving scenario, and audio equipments. With the simulator, the cognitive effects of fatigue due to two hour continuous driving of a straight road is investigated . The effects of alcohol on driving performance is also studied. The braking operation and lane keeping performance due to fatigue and alcohol are investigated. Changes of vehicle motion due to these effects are verified by computer simulation.

Safety Performance Models of Improvement Projects of Frequent Traffic Accident Locations (사고잦은곳 개선사업의 안전성과 모형)

  • This study deals with the traffic accident according to the improvement projects of frequent accident locations. The objective is to analyze the impact of improvements on the accident reduction. In pursuing the above, the study gives the particular attentions to developing the models based on the data of 70 intersections improved. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, 4 multiple linear regression accident models(total, side right-angle, rear end and side stripe accident) which were statistically significant were developed. Second, total accidents reduction by sight-distance and turning traffic flow improvements, side right-angle by sight-distance, over-speed and lane operation, rear end by turning traffic flow, signal and lane operation, and side stripe by traffic impedance improvements were analyzed. Finally, the above 4 models were evaluated to be statically significant through the correlation analysis and pair-sample t-test.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of the shoulder-use lane, which is a representative traffic management technique that increases the road capacity. The operation of the shoulder-use lane has been actively used as a countermeasure to improve traffic congestion, because it has the effect of improving traffic flow during rush hour. In Korea, the shoulder-use lanes are available at Gyeongbu, Yeongdong, and on the Seoul Outer Ring expressway, and their use is gradually increasing. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis was conducted to analyze the effects of the shoulder-use lane; including 1) analysis of individual shoulder lanes based on a time space diagram, and 2) analysis of shoulder lanes by road axis. These findings can contribute to the efficient installation and operation of shoulder-use lanes on expressways.

  • Two-Lane Highway of Korea is important, Because it has the largeest portion of all roads of Korea. But it has only one lane for one direction. So, If Delays are happened by low-speed vehicles, high-speed vehicles should over-take through the other side of the road. This over-takings can generate the high possibility of traffic accidents and the severity of traffic accidents by over-takings is very high. Because it generates a head-on collision. But the level of Service that indicates the operation states of Two-Lane Highway is defined as a conception that explains the operation conditions of traffic safety etc. Whencalculating the Level of service. It is considered by only delays. So, in this paper, first, this author wants to present the calculation of delay-time by Total-Delay Rate. Second, by multiplying this delay-time by the costs of delays wants to present the method of calulates the total delay costs. Third, to consider the traffic accidents, After predicting the number of traffic accidents, As multipling this by the average of costs of traffic accidents. want to present the method to calculate Total traffic accidents costs. Forth, present the operation costs.

Estimation of Unprotected Left-Turn Saturation Flows (비보호 좌회전 포화유률 추정)

  • When the capacity and traffic operation at signalized intersections are analyzed in Korea, the unprotected left-turn saturation flow rate, which is an important parameter for the analysis, is estimated form the USHCM model. thus, exact analysis of the left-turn is not possible because of the difference of traffic environments between two contries. In order to improve this problem, it is undertaken in this study to develop techniques for the estimation of unprotected left-turn saturation flows based on Korean drivers' data. As study intersections, signalized or unsignalized intersections on the 6, 4 and 2 lane streets are selected. the data for the saturation flow measurement and gap-acceptance behavior analysis are inputed in a notebook computer on the sites. The critical acceptance gaps of the 6, 4, and 2 lane streets are analyzed to be 6.0 secs, 4.6 secs, and 4.3 secs respectively. the average minimum headway of the left-turn vehicle was observed to be 2.6 secs. As the model to estimate unportected left-turn saturation flows, the drew model is recommended for 6 and 4 lane streets, and a graph is suggested for the 2-lane street. As the values of the parameters of the Drew model, the 2.6 secs of this study is recommended for the average minimum headway of the left-turn. But, the critical acceptance gap varies according to the approach speed of opposing traffic and driver population, it requires field survey to measure the gap of an intersection; however, the values of the gaps studied in this study may be used for the general intersections in urban area in Korean.

  • Lane Keeping Assistant Systems (LKAS) require the cooperative operation between drivers and active steering angle/torque controllers. An LKAS is proposed in this study such that the desired reference path generation (DRPG) system generates the desired path to minimize the trajectory overshoot. Based on the reference path from the DRPG system, an optimal controller is designed to minimize the cost function. A HIL (Hardware In the Loop) simulator is constructed to evaluate the proposed LKAS system. The single camera is mounted on the simulator and acquires the monitor images to detect lane markers. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by HIL system using the Carsim and the Matlab Simulink.

Efficient Real-time Lane Detection Algorithm Using V-ROI (V-ROI를 이용한 고효율 실시간 차선 인식 알고리즘)

  • Information technology improves convenience, safety, and performance of automobiles. Recently, a lot of algorithms are studied to provide safety and environment information for driving, and lane detection algorithm is one of them. In this paper, we propose a lane detection algorithm that reduces the amount of calculation by reducing region of interest (ROI) after preprocessing. The proposed algorithm reduces the area of ROI a lot by determining the candidate regions near lane boundaries as V-ROI so that the amount of calculation is reduced. In addition, the amount of calculation can be maintained almost the same regardless of the resolutions of the input images by compressing the images since the lane detection algorithm does not require high resolution. The proposed algorithm is implemented using C++ and OpenCV library and is verified to work at 30 fps for realtime operation.

Effectiveness Analysis on the Installation of Right-Turn Bypass Lane in Roundabout (회전교차로 우회전 별도차로 설치 효과 검토)

  • This study deals with the Right-Turn Bypass Lane in Roundabout. The purpose of the study is to comparatively analysis the effectiveness questions on the installation of right-turn bypass lane in roundabout. In pursuing the above, this study analyzed after and before of the right turn bypass lane plan by VISSIM software. The right turn bypass lane is formed by control type of yield and control type of joint were compared and analyzed the effects of the operation. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, after Right-Turn Bypass Lane is Installed, the traffic volume rate of the right-turn increasing by average delay time per vehicle is on the gradual decrease, maximum average about 28% with the fact that decreases. Second, control type of yield and control type of joint are both average delay time per vehicle decreasing by the traffic volume rate of the right-turn is on the gradual increase. Control type of joint was analyzed with the fact that has the maximum average about 18% delay decrement efficiency.
