This study was conducted to understand the water and soil properties to propose the promotion of vegetation environment at farm pond depression. We selected 8 palustrine wetlands from agricultural area after consideration of human interference, surround land use, and size of area. Water quality analysis showed that the average SS, T-N, T-P were over the limit of agricultural water quality standard level at some sites. The cause for deterioration of water quality is supposed by the long-term stagnation of water in palustrine wetland. The recommended measures to improve water quality are as follows; improving water circulation by connecting with nearby natural water, preventing oxygen depletion by dredging deposit, lowering down T-N and T-P by removing autumn plants, preventing inflow of phosphorus in fertilizer ingredients which is the main cause for high T-P. The soil contamination of the surveyed area was about the same level of average heavy metal contents in soils from 2,010 paddy fields in Korea, which was much lower than soil contamination standards. As for soil texture, sand content was 40~90% and clay content was less than 20%. The content of silt and clay in soil from community of floating-leaved:submerged hydrophytes and community of emergent hydrophytes was higher that of soil from community of hygrophytes, and the content of sand in soil from community of hygrophytes was 10% higher than underwater soil. In terms of bulk density, the average was 0.24~0.96g/$cm^3$, which was quite low, because of high content of peat and organic matter in soil of the surveyed area. As for the average content of organic matter, community of floating-leaved:submerged hydrophytes was 18.25g/kg, community of emergent hydrophytes was 16.88g/kg, and community of hydrophytes was 25.63g/kg. The range of content of T-N in soil of community of floating-leaved;submerged hydrophytes was 0.022~0.307%, and that of community of emergent hydrophytes was 0.029~0.681% and that of community of hydrophytes was 0.088~0.325%. Apart from three sites in the surveyed area, most parts were over the standards or below the standard. After this study, we will conduct and discuss the relationship between vegetation characteristics and environments, which will be used of the best practical management and restoration of wetland.
The first pruning works of planted trees on forest area carry out when tree height reached at 6 meters. And the second works carry out when it grow to 12~13 meters of tree height. Pruning works are necessary for producing straight log without knar by tool or machine. Generally, the mechanized pruning works Self-propelled pruning machine, chain pruning saw and other tools are used in mechanized pruning works. However, manual pruning saw which is usually using pruning tool was for this study. To investigate the pruning works efficiency, Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis and Pinus rigida which were distributed in Kangwon-Do was surveyed. Height of surveyed the trees were 10~16 meters and its pruning works range were 6.2~6.7 meters of tree height. As results, pruning works efficiency of Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis and Pinus rigida were 3.14 min/tree, 5.06 min/tree and 4.44 min/tree, respectively. Also, possible pruning works of man-day for Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis and Pinus rigida was 104, 64, and 81 trees, respectively.
This study identified the habitat use pattern and migration distance of spot-billed ducks during winter that occur for breed and wintering. The study was carried out using GPS-mobile phone based Telemetry (WT-300) to provide the research results as basic data for protection and management of the habitats of water birds in Korea. The tracking devices (WT-300) were attached to a total of twenty spot-billed ducks collected from the rivers and reservoirs in Gyeonggi-do Anseongcheon, Chungcheongnam-do Seocheongun, Jeollabuk-do Mangyunggang, Dongjingang, and Jeollanam-do Haenamgun. It was found that spot-billed ducks used rivers most frequently as their habitats (47.3%), followed by rice fields, ocean, inland wetlands, and tidal flats. While spot-billed ducks used rice fields at night time and ocean, inland wetlands, and tidal flatss at day time, they used rivers regardless of time. Change rate of habitat use pattern was highest between 6:00am and 8:00am and between 16:00pm and 18:00pm. The average daily migration distance was $0.75{\pm}0.27km$/2hours and accumulated migration distance was 8.95km. Spot-billed ducks covered the longest migration distance between 6:00am and 8:00am and between 16:00pm and 18:00pm; the distance they moved during the periods from 6:00am to 8:00am and from 16:00pm to 18:00pm was 2km but during the rest of the time, it was less than 1km for equivalent durations. The time when spot-billed ducks covered the longest migration distance also corresponds to the time when they showed the greatest change rate of habitat use pattern.
In recent globalization era, Korean architectural education and profession are emerging as the fields with serious problems. There are two major reasons. One is an internal factor caused by Ministry of Education's full scale shift from department to faculty system. Due to the drastic change in this system, most of schools have serious difficulties to deliver the proper professional education. And the other is an external factor. In WTO era, Union of International Architects has adopted $\ulcorner$UIA Accord on Recommended International Standards of Professionalism In Architectural Practice$\lrcorner$. According to the education section of the Accord, it requires 5 years of professional education in the accredited school. So, if it is formally adopted in the Beijing Congress, which is scheduled to be held in June 1999, we may face very serious problems in architectural education. As mentioned above, with the present education system it is believed not easy to meet their new criteria. Within the present system, which does not have any mandatory relationship with professional licence, students might go on to diverse fields such as architectural design, structural engineering, construction management and building equipment engineering. However, if UIA Accord and Engineering Accreditation are required at the same time, it will not be easy to meet their new criteria with present architectural education system. The goal of this paper is to suggest the models to meet the standards of international community while keeping the strengths of existing systems.

This study was conducted to set up ecological database for effective forest management and conservation of KNU Research Forest in Mt. Myeonbong with the characteristic analysis of stand structures. Following the results of clustering analysis, they were classified under 6 communities (Quercus mongolica-Pinus densiflora, Pinus densiflora, Carpinus cordata, Fraxinus rhynchophylla-Acer pseudosieboldianum-Acer pictum subsp. Mono, Quercus mongolica-Quercus variabilis, Quercus mongolica). Importance value tests were estimated that on ridge; Pinus densiflora, valley; Carpinus cordata, Fraxinus rhynchophylla-Acer pseudosieboldianum-Acer pictum subsp. Mono were recorded dominant species. Carpinus cordata and Fraxinus rhynchophylla-Acer pseudosieboldianum-Acer pictum subsp. Mono community, north aspect and valley were investigated high species richness value. It was showed decreasing tendency as altitude and degree of slope were high. Results of NMS, upper & middle layers and shrub & herbal layers were influenced by species richness and the case of species association.

The purpose of this study is to establish the basis of the ecological restoration on the limestone mines in Korea, through the research of the revegetation measures of the disturbed slopes in Japanese limestone mines and the analysis of the case of Ibuki and Bukou limestone mines to realize the restoration works successfully. According to the number of mines to carry out the revegetation works increase every year, the revegetation area and amount of planting also go on increasing in Japan. In the small mines the environmental problem is not recognized seriously, but some mines have muchly invested in the revegetation of the damaged land by mines. Ibuki mine in Shiga-gen is practicing the four principles for the restoring of the revegetation in the disturbed slopes by mines. Firstly, the mean slope preserves $37^{\circ}$ in the last rock cut slopes. Secondly, the last rock cut slopes to rehabilitate are covered with the soil dressing 30cm high. Thirdly, the grasses in the mining area are digged up beforehand, and then they are reused to the revegetation works of rock cut slopes. Lastly, from the upper rock cut slopes the revegetation works begin, the process of the above are repeated, as the result, the restoring works will be completed. Upon the ground of these principles, the complex of the original vegetation and the native species seeding, that is, the revegetation technique of Ibuki have established. In the difficult area to revegetate, sodding works, heaping up vegetation-sack, seed-spraying, heaping up soil-sacks and planting works are adapted variously. Bukou mine in Saitama-gen try to maintain the revegetation, the screening and the stability of the enormous mining rock cut slope, and for these works, the activity of 'Chichibu Working Group of Rock Wall for Limestone Mines' contributes largely. The chief technique of the revegetation in Bukou mine is following; after the making the berm on the rock cut slopes, the soil dressing is filled in it, and the trees is planted for the screening of the rock cut slopes. They devide the rock cut slopes into four typical types, and choose the different ways to make the berm and fill the soil dressing in characteristic. Most of the planting trees are consist ofthe native species of Mt. Bukou through the stages of the nursery and transplantation. Not only the revegetation of the demaged land but also the breeding of the conservational plants also are their important business.

Kaloula borealis is the species of Amphibia which belongs to Kaloula genus and it is the only species inhabiting in Korea. The population size and habitat of Kaloula borealis have been significantly decreased on a national scale due to the diversified developments and the uses of agricultural pesticides. Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment has designated and managed them as the class II of endangered species, in accordance with "Endangered Species Protection and Management Act"; however, a particular study focused on the ecological restoration of Kaloula borealis is desperately needed to prevent their extinction. This study was conducted to propose the HSI (Habit Suitability Index) of Kaloula borealis based on literature survey on ecology and habitats of Kaloula borealis, as well as their HSI. Factors to be investigated in HSI include: space, feed, cover, water(breeding) and threatening factors and the variables of each factor were also proposed. The distance from wetland, grassland, farm, stream and rice paddy, as well as the altitude of spawning pond were proposed as the variables of space, whereas the bed structure of forest and low-rise grassland were proposed as the variables of feeding. The variables of water (breeding) include the area of permanent and temporary wetlands, coverage of emerged pants (ratio of open water), water depth, water temperature, water quality, pH level, etc., whereas the presence of predator, distance from street and pollutants were proposed as the variables of threatening factor. The sub-standards by HSI factor of Kaloula borealis have been drawn from in-depth consultation with experts and based on this, the final HSI of Kaloula borealis was developed.
Measuring tree's volume is very important input data of various environmental analysis modeling However, It's difficult to use economical and equipment to measure a fragmented small green space in the city. In addition, Trees are sensitive to seasons, so we need new and easier equipment and quantification methods for measuring trees than lidar for high frequency monitoring. In particular, the tree's size in a city affect management costs, ecosystem services, safety, and so need to be managed and informed on the individual tree-based. In this study, we aim to acquire image data with UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), which can be operated at low cost and frequently, and quickly and easily quantify a single tree using SfM-MVS(Structure from Motion-Multi View Stereo), and we evaluate the impact of reducing number of images on the point density of point clouds generated from SfM-MVS and the quantification of single trees. Also, We used the Watertight model to estimate the volume of a single tree and to shape it into a 3D structure and compare it with the quantification results of 3 different type of 3D models. The results of the analysis show that UAV, SfM-MVS and solid model can quantify and shape a single tree with low cost and high time resolution easily. This study is only for a single tree, Therefore, in order to apply it to a larger scale, it is necessary to follow up research to develop it, such as convergence with various spatial information data, improvement of quantification technique and flight plan for enlarging green space.
This study was conducted to provide basic information for development of habitat-based conservation strategies of biological diversity in agricultural ecosystem. The carabid beetle assemblages were examined at four kinds of habitats(levee, dike, forest patch remnants and streamside) from three differently stressed areas located in Paltan-myun, Hwaseong city, Korea: agricultural and forest area(site 1), industrial area(site 2), and residential area(site 3). Pitfall trap samplings were carried out 39 times from November 2000 to November 2002. Our study's findings were that the composition of carabid beetle fauna, dominance species, and pattern of carabid beetle assemblage were different among the habitats. The similarity index was highest between two levees in site 2 and 3, and lowest between hillock in site 2 and streamside in site 3, and that among habitats fragmented by road with high traffic was lower than that among any other habitat types. So, we could know that agricultural land use respectively do an important role in diversity conservation and networking. These findings will be used to establish the land use and management plans in the aspects of conservation of biodiversity.
