To alleviate the urban heat island phenomenon, this study aims to quantitatively analyze the effects of neighborhood green spaces on the improvement of the thermal environment based on detailed scenarios of five types of green spaces, including parks, pocket parks, parking lot greening, roadside planting, and rooftop-wall greening. The ENVI-met 4.4.6v model, a microclimate simulation program, was used to analyze the effects of green spaces. As a result, it was found that the air temperature decreased as the planting density of the park increased, but the thermal comfort index PET, which is the degree of heat sensation felt by humans, was not directly proportional to temperature. The establishment of a pocket park reduced air temperature up to a radius of 56m, while the range of temperature reduction increased by about 12.5% when three additional pocket parks were established at 250m intervals. Unlike the air temperature, PET was only affected in the vicinity of the planted area, so there was no significant difference in the thermal comfort of the surrounding environment due to the construction of pocket parks. Changing the surface pavement from asphalt to lawn blocks and implementing rooftop or wall greening did not directly act as solar shading but positively affected air temperature reduction; PET showed no significant difference. Roadside planting showed a higher air temperature reduction effect as the planting interval was narrower, but PET was not directly proportional to tree density. In the case of shrub planting under trees, it did not significantly affect the air temperature reduction but positively affected the improvement of thermal comfort. This study can outline strategies for constructing neighborhood green spaces to solve the urban heat island phenomena and establish detailed strategies for efficient thermal environment improvements.
If the Nakdong River estuary is to be sustainable, land use management practices need to consider bird habitat requirements, especially given that the area serves as an important migratory bird sanctuary. In this study, bird habitats found in the Nakdong River estuary were classified into 11 different types including Phragmites australiss, mud flat, farmland, open surface in freshwater, sand bar, riparian forest, Scirpus planiculmis, waterway, construction, grasslands, and open surface in sea or brackish water. Taking into consideration the regional characteristics, habitat properties, and landscape indices, a total of 12 study sites were analyzed. Mud flat, construction, farmland, and P. australis account for 80% of the total land area. The high area ratio of construction and farmland to other types of habitat revealed a high amount of historical human activity and intervention in the area. Both patch numbers as well as patch density were high in West Nakdong River, Samrak Waterfront, Maekdo River, and Daejeo Floodgate, with these areas showing the greatest fragmentation as well. Total numbers of species and individuals had a positive correlation with the area and the number of habitat types. Findings suggest that protecting the habitat area, especially in S. planiculmis, is the most important factor for bird habitat management and that future development could result in habitat loss, having a profoundly adverse impact on bird populations. Therefore, it is important that the total area should be carefully protected by land use regulations in order to ensure that the Nakdong River estuary maintains its functional integrity as a migratory bird sanctuary.
The objective of this study was to monitor the edge vegetation development process after timber harvesting at deciduous hardwood forest in Seoul National University Research Forest of Baekwoonsan (Mt), Korea The results from the 4th (2001) and 5th (2003) survey for edge vegetation development process after timber harvesting are summarized as follows. The competitive species at the harvested forest edge are Lindera erythrocarpa, Weigela subsessilis, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Lindera obtusiioba, Arajia eiata. There were Lindera erythrocarpa, Ivelgela subsessilis, Staphyiea bumaida as competitive species at harvested forest border between harvested forest edge and harvested interior. And at the forest interior, the competitive species were Lindera erythrocarpa, Lindera obtusiloba. There were differences in the competitive species at the forest edge due to the differences in direction, altitude, and existing dominant species. But Lindera erythrocarpa, Weigela subsessilis were appeared to be a competitive specieg at the southwestern slope (A site) and northeastern slope (B site). After timber harvesting, Sasa borealisshowed a good growth in early days, but showed a tendency of declining with the developing of canopy layer And coverage was generally higher at the Northeastern slope (Site B) than southwestern slop (Site A). The similarity index was lower as the distance from the forest edge becomes farther.
This study was carried out to investigate the ecological succession sere and conservative value, and to provide the basic data in Woonsooam Valley, in Jogyesan (Mt.) (altitude 884m), Suncheon City, Korea by analysing the structure of the plant community. Fifteen plots (size is $20m{\times}20m$) were set up at an altitude of range from 255m to 495m. As a result of analysis of DCA which is one of the ordination technique, the plant communities were divided into five groups which are community I (Pinus densiflora community), community II (Quercus variabilis-Quercus serrata community), community III (Q. serrata-Q. variabilis community), and community IV (Carpinus tschonoskii-Q. serrata community) and community v(Deciduous broad-leaved forest community). We found out that the vegetation of the study site located in the South Temperate Climate Zone. The study site is found out that Q. serrata community 34.4%, part of slope in valley is the distribution that dominant species is Q. serrata-Q. variabilis community 32.1%. And in valley showed Carpinus tschonoskii community 5.5%. And Sasa borealis was dominant species in the shrub layer. We couldn't supposed that the ecological succession sere of the study site, however we should do a long-term monitoring to investigate the changes of the ecological succession each plant community, According to the index of Shannon's diversity (unit: $400m^2$), community III was ranged from 1.0102 to 1.1013, community V was 0.9945, community II was ranged from 0.7913 to 1.1503, community IV was ranged from 0.8081 to 1.0749 and community I was 0.9273.

This study analyzes the physiological healing effects on users according to forest types. Forest types are classified into Chamaecyparis obtusa, Quercus serrata and Pinus densiflora and the subjects of this study, 64 hypertensives, 59 diabetics and 59 ordinary people, were tested to observe their physiological effects. The index of physiological reaction comprises electroencephalogram(EEG), heart rate variability(HRV), blood pressure and cortisol level. An analysis of the stress-buffering effect from the physiological reactions of the overall subjects indicates that Quercus serrata forests have a higher stress-buffering effect than others in terms of central nervous, endocrine and autonomic nervous systems. Chamaecyparis obtusa forests are contributory to soothing stress in the central nervous and endocrine systems. Pinus densiflora forests contribute in some indexes of the endocrine and autonomic nervous systems. In contrast, Pinus densiflora forests are less influential on a stress-buffering effect than the other two. In the level of the effect for lowering blood pressure, Chamaecyparis obtusa and Quercus serrata forests are more effective than Pinus densiflora forests. Therefore, staying in the first two forests can heighten the healing effect of the lowering of blood pressure for hypertensive patients. Every forest is efficacious to lowering diabetic blood glucose levels. Spending time in Quercus serrata forests is more effective for hypoglycemic.

With increasing interest in health promotion and quality of life, growing attention has been focused on the beneficial effects of urban green area. However, very few evidence-based approaches have been conducted on the health-related benefits of urban greenery. Therefore, this study examined the health-related benefits of green areas using physiological and psychological indices to obtain evidence-based data on these benefits. Twenty male university students were selected as subjects. Data were collected when participants viewed landscapes in a green area or an urban area for fifteen minutes. This research was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of School of Medicine, Chungnam National University. Physiological data in the green area revealed significantly decreased heart rates, significantly increased high-frequency value of heart rate variability, an index of parasympathetic activity, and reduced salivary cortisol concentration, a stress hormone, compared to the urban area. Psychological tests showed the green area significantly reduced the negative mood state and psychological symptoms, and significantly increased the positive mood state. Our data provided evidence for the health-related benefits of green areas, and the findings of this study support that green areas can play a critical role in health promotion for urban residents, by positively affecting autonomic nervous and endocrinal activities.

Plans to mitigate overheating in urban areas requires the identification of the characteristics of the thermal environment of the city. The key information is the distribution of higher and lower temperatures (referred to as "hotspot" or "coldspot", respectively) in the city. This study aims to identify the areas within Jeonju City that are suffering from increasing land surface temperatures (LST) and the factors linked to such this phenomenon. To identify the hot and cold spots, Local Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi* were calculated for the LST based on 2017 images taken using the thermal band of the Landsat 8 satellite. Hotspot analysis revealed that hotspot regions, (the areas with a high concentration of Land Surface Temperature) are located in the old town area and in industrial districts. To figure out the factors linked to the hotspots, a correlation analysis, and a regression analysis taking into account environmental covariates including Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and land cover. The values of NDVI showed that it had the strongest effect on the lowering LSTs. The results of this study are expected to provide directions for urban thermal environment designing and policy development to mitigate the urban heat island effect in the future.

Fine temporal and spatial resolution of image data are necessary to monitor the phenology of vegetation. However, there is no single sensor provides fine temporal and spatial resolution. For solve this limitation, researches on spatiotemporal data fusion methods are being conducted. Among them, FSDAF (Flexible spatiotemporal data fusion) can fuse each band in high accuracy. In thisstudy, we applied MODIS NDVI and Landsat NDVI to enhance time resolution of NDVI based on FSDAF algorithm. Then we proposed the possibility of utilization in vegetation phenology monitoring. As a result of FSDAF method, the predicted NDVI from January to December well reflect the seasonal characteristics of broadleaf forest, evergreen forest and farmland. The RMSE values between predicted NDVI and actual NDVI (Landsat NDVI) of August and October were 0.049 and 0.085, and the correlation coefficients were 0.765 and 0.642 respectively. Spatiotemporal data fusion method is a pixel-based fusion technique that can be applied to variousspatial resolution images, and expected to be applied to various vegetation-related studies.

Studies for demarcation of urban areas by ecological type have been developed, but the demarcation of urban areas by ecological perception is thus far dependent on artificial land use. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find factors that account for the urban area ecosystems by surveying a variety of ecosystem factors. By land use type, the urban area of Gangdong District, Seoul was defined. Then ecological factors in each polygon were surveyed. Ecological factors are associated with energy use(building coverage ratio, floor area ratio and ground temperature), water circulation(biotope area factors and impermeable pave ratio) and biological diversity(bird appearance index and green area ratio). The correlation between each factor was analyzed. The results indicate that urban ground temperature is divided into three groups(high, middle and low) by the biotope area factor. The bird population is divided into two groups(abundant and scarce) by the green area ratio. Therefore, demarcating the urban areas by ecological type is applicable to the biotope area factor and green area ratio.

Camp Page, which has been located in front of Chuncheon Station for about 50 years since 1958, recently opened to the public. Chuncheon City is currently struggling to construct a park on this site due to an uncertainty of general plans and financial difficulties. Accordingly, this research conducted a cognitive survey about site usage with Camp Page users in order to clarify directions for efficient establishment of parks within the former military base. The course of research includes analytical methods such as a survey targeting Chuncheon citizens and tourists both in the field and online, a frequency analysis of 1,360 index samples, a cross analysis and t-test. As a result, firstly, Chuncheon citizens recognized the image of Chuncheon as a city with a fresh, clean lakeshore whereas tourists think of it as a city for sightseeing and leisure. Hence, it was justifiable to conclude that the city should organize various programs for people to enjoy leisure activities while at the same time protecting the environment. Second, the awareness of tourists about Camp Page was relatively low and both citizens and tourists recognize that it was not sufficient enough for enjoyment of free time. The majority answered "space for culture and art and for experiencing the natural environment" when asked about the direction of space creation at Camp Page, which indicates that the site will need to be available both for cultural art and nature experiences. Lastly, it was thought that the direction of developing leisure facilities in Chuncheon city should include the improvement of worn out installations and developing chain products among programs. This research will be able to use fundamental data for the efficient utilization of the returned U.S. military camps that are constantly merging.
