  • This paper classifies the topography of the Saemangeum Tidal flats based on Landsat TM satellite images by unsupervised ISODATA method, and analysis of the spatiotemporal changes of the classified shapes. The sedimental topography represents various properties according to the Saemangeum Tidal Embankment progress. We well proceed this study of the sedimental changes and distributions. By specifying the topographic characteristics of inner sea areas respectively, the investigation on the case study area according to the changes of the tidal will be useful in the establishment of land reclamation plan and the land use of the reclaimed area. In addition, the estuary image can be divided into tidal flats and sea surfaces using the band 4, also the detailed topography using the band 5, respectively among Landsat TM 7 bands. This paper contributes to the efficient image processing of the spatiotemporal sedimental changes.

  • In this study, the series of Landsat TM/ETM+ images was acquired to extract land surface temperature for wide-area and executed geometric correction and radiometric correction. And the land surface temperature was extracted using NASA Model, and achieved the first correction by performing land coverage category for study area and applied characteristic emission rate. Land surface temperature which was acquired by the first correction was analyzed in correlation with Meteorological Administration's temperature data by regression analysis, and established correction formula. And I wished to improve accuracy of land surface temperature extraction using satellite image by second correcting deviations between two data using establishing correction formula. As a result, land surface temperature acquired by 1st and 2st correction could be corrected in mean deviation of about ${\pm}3.0^{\circ}C$ with Meteorological Administration data. Also, I could acquire land surface temperature about study area by higher accuracy by applying to other Landsat images for re-verification of study results.

  • The conventional monitoring of water quality constrained by time and equipment produce neither complete nor synoptic geographic coverage of pollutant distribution, transport, and water quality. To circumvent these limitations in temporal and spatial measurements, the use of remote sensing is increasingly being involved in the lacustrine environmental research. Consequently, satellite remote sensing, with its synoptic coverage, is used to obtain the eutrophication-related water quality parameters in Daecheong reservoir in this study. The approach involved acquisition of water quality samples from boats of 15 sites on 20 June 1995 and 30 sites on 18 March 1996, simultaneous with Landsat-5 satellite overpass. Regression models have been developed between the water quality parameters and Landsat Thematic Mapper(TM) digital data. The best regression model was determined based on the correlation coefficient which was higher than 0.6. As a result, satellite remote sensing can provide meaningful information on water quality parameters. The regression models developed in this study show good relationship for transparency, turbidity, SS, and chlorophyll, but not for TN and TP because their spectral characteristics are not well defined.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate land cover classification of PyeongTaeg area by Landsat Thematic Mapper Data June, 1997. This study was also to make more correct reference data using DGPS, aerophoto, and topographical chart etc.. The result of the area of paddy and upland were estimated 4,949 $\textrm{km}^2$ and 16,157 $\textrm{km}^2$, respectively. Correctness of estimation by using DGPS, aerophoto, topographical chart were shown over 90% correct in case of rice paddy field, water, and sea, while upland, vinyl house, forest, grassland, village were shown low correctness. Total average accuracy was shown to be 85.8%. Correctness of paddy field showed high value of 92%, showing that use of remote sensing data was proved to be effective methods to estimate spatial distribution and cultivation status of paddy field. Classification result of sea, water area, downtown had higher correctness, while upland, vinyl-house, grassland were proved to be relatively low correctness because of it's small area and mixed distribution.

  • To analysis the LST distribution of Jeju island, remote sensing techniques using Landsat TM band 6 data were used. In this study, we made the LST distribution map based on the NASA. The study areas are the Jeju and Seogwipo cities of the Jeju Island. And we analyzed the correlation between the LST and NDVI which was calculated from the Landsat TM band 3 and ban 4. From the result, we found that the coefficients of the correlation were -0.77 and -0.74 on the Jeju and the Seogwipo cities, respectively. Finally, from the correlation between the land cover and LST, we also found that an inverse relationship between the LST and NDVI was exist.

  • With increasing satellite-based RS(Remotely Sensed) techniques, RS soil moisture footprints have been providing for various purposes at the spatio-temporal scales in hydrology, agriculture, etc. However, their coarse resolutions still limit the applicability of RS soil moisture to field regions. To overcome these drawbacks, the LDA(Landsat-based Downscaling Algorithm) was developed to downscale RS soil moisture footprints from the coarse- to finer-scales. LDA estimates Landsat-based soil moisture($30m{\times}30m$) values in a spatial domain, and then the weighting values based on the Landsat-based soil moisture estimates were derived at the finer-scale. Then, the coarse-scale RS soil moisture footprints can be downscaled based on the derived weighting values. The LW21(Little Washita) site in Oklahoma(USA) was selected to validate the LDA scheme. In-situ soil moisture data measured at the multiple sampling locations that can reprent the airborne sensing ESTAR(Electronically Scanned Thinned Array Radiometer, $800m{\times}800m$) scale were available at the LW21 site. LDA downscaled the ESTAR soil moisture products, and the downscaled values were validated with the in-situ measurements. The soil moisture values downscaled from ESTAR were identified well with the in-situ measurements, although uncertainties exist. Furthermore, the SMAP(Soil Moisture Active & Passive, $9km{\times}9km$) soil moisture products were downscaled by the LDA. Although the validation works have limitations at the SMAP scale, the downscaled soil moisture values can represent the land surface condition. Thus, the LDA scheme can downscale RS soil moisture products with easy application and be helpful for efficient water management plans in hydrology, agriculture, environment, etc. at field regions.

  • In this research, the image obtained by TM platformed in the LANDSAT-5 and the terrestrial infrared image obtained by the Thermo Tracer were employed in order to search the distribution of industrial thermal plume discharged into seas. Sea surface temperature distributions were deduced based on the infrared band 6 in the TM image of the LANDSAT by employing the transformal formula provided by the CSFC of the NASA and post-calibration values. The temperature distributions were also obtained with the processing mode of the TH1100 series from the terrestrial thermal image or the Thermo tracer. According to the results of the image analyses with this methods, it was found that sea surface temperatures in shallow coastal area largely affected by the temperatures of the freshwater and inland and that the range and the area of distribution of the thermal plume can be visualized quantitatively. Furthermore, when the terrestrial thermal infrared scanner is used, the more details of the distribution range can be obtained, and the image results are comparable to those obtained from the LNADSTA.

  • The joint use of remotely sensed data and field measurements has been widely used to estimate aboveground carbon stock in many countries. Recently, Korea Forest Research Institute has developed new carbon emission factors for kind of tree, thus more accurate estimate is possible. In this study, the aboveground carbon stock of Danyang area in South Korea was estimated using k-Nearest Neighbor(kNN) algorithm with the 5th National Forest Inventory(NFI) data. Considering the spectral response of forested area under the climate condition in Korea peninsular which has 4 distinct seasons, Landsat TM seasonal satellite images were collected. As a result, the estimated total carbon stock of Danyang area was ranged from 3542768.49tonC to 3329037.51tonC but seasonal trends were not found.

  • In this study analysis the status of land cover change and land degradation of Tuul-Basin in Mongolia by using the Landsat satellite images that was taken in year of 1990, 2001 and 2011 respectively in the summer at the time of great growth of green plants. Analysis of the land cover change during time series data in Tuul-Basin, Mongolia and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), SAVI (Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index) and LST (Land Surface Temperature) algorithm are used respectively. As a result shows, there was a decrease of forest and green area and increase of dry and fallow land in the study area. It was be considered as trends to be a land degradation. In addition, there was high correlation between LST and vegetation index. The land cover change or vitality of vegetation which is taken in study area can be closely related to the temperature of the surface.
