Tideland reclamation in Korea has significant meanings both in securing the staple food supply and in enlarging the limited land resources. Environmentally, that significantly contributes in protecting the sea and the tidelands connected to a reclaimed area from the direct exposure to the environmental destruction by filtering the large volume of contaminant discharged from the inland. Furthermore, within few years after closing a sea dike. formulation of new tideland begins in wide area in front. Therefore, tideland reclamation should not be the one that must be unconditionally objected. Instead, the methodology should be wisely redirected to minimize the environmental disorder. It will be one viable alternative to proceed the tideland reclamation at medium- to small-scales environment-friendly bringing minimal environmental change in the sea.

The land reclamation area of Saemangeum(Kunsan) is located between 126$^{\circ}$10' E~126$^{\circ}$50' E and 35$^{\circ}$35' N~356$^{\circ}$05'N at the western coast of the Korean peninsula. The are many small islands including extensive areas of semi-diurnally flooded and dewatered tidal flats. The reclamation area of Saemangeum has a range of 5.6m spring tide and the maximum tidal current speed is about 1.41m s-1 in ordinary spring tide. Most of the sediments deposited on the tidal flats are transported from the Geum river, the Manjyung river and The Dongjin river. The soil in this area consists of silty sand with the depth of 10m to 30m . The wind in winter is strong from the direction of northwest. In the past twenty years, land reclamation projects for agricutural purpose or industrial cocmplex have been mostly implemented along the western coast of Korea. Saemangeum coastal area is being constructed the33km sea dike and 40, 100ha reclamation area. The purpose of this study is to find the residual circulations in four seasons after the dike construction by a robust diagnostic and prognostic numerical model. Heat flux at the sea surface in January ,May , August , October was asopted on the basis on the daily inflow of solar radiation at the earth surface, assuming an average atomospheric transmission and no clouds , as a function of latitude and time of year(George L.P.J.E William, 1990). The discharge from the Geum , the Mankyung and the Dongjin rivers was adopted on the basis of experience formula of river flow in January , May ,August, October (The M. of C.Korea, 1993) . Water temperature and salinity along the open boundaries are obtained from the results of field observation s.

The world largest land reclamation project in the name of Saemangeum(Ariul) from 1991 to the present has been implementing in a part of the west coast of Korea. In the Saemangeum reclamation project, the large-scale project cost is used for the landfill reclamation. A number of landfill reclamation methods have been studied in order to reduce the large-scale cost of the Saemangeum project under construction. There are many studies related to the on-site real-time monitoring with mobile systems for operating a wide range of landfill. In order to apply the work method for efficient cost-savings in the landfill operations to the Samangeum project, this paper develops a mobile management system that is composed of a mobile interface module, a data server module for data transmission and storage, and an analysis server module to analyze the input data and derive the results. The mobile system is designed by analysing user's and system requirements, functional interactions, and data flow using unified modeling language(UML). The user interface is developed for the on-site real-time monitoring through the status and related attributes of land reclamation by using the digital maps of the Samangeum coverage via mobile devices. Finally, a mobile management system would be developed that can provide a 3D GIS service based on the Dry Internal Project Site Digging Reclamation Method(DIPSDRM).

In this paper, we discussed methods and problems for estimating historical shorelines on a reclaimed land. Since many of coastal lands are unregistered in Korea, reclamation of public waters could cause complicated land ownership dispute. Unlike cadastral boundaries, historical shorelines can be represented by those of various locations due to lack of legal definition of shoreline as well as characteristics of shoreline changes, which directly influence on the calculation of coastal and submerged land areas. Through a case study for Anjeong industrial complex, a systematic method of investigating historical shorelines was suggested to resolve the problems. For a rocky coast where shoreline changes are not likely to occur, a shoreline based on tidal datum was retrieved using aerial photographs taken before the construction of reclamation. Compared with ground survey data, the shoreline was accurate, indicating that the digital photogrammetry was reliable.
The tidal land reclamation schemes and projects located along the western coast of North Korea were investigated by the remote sensing using sattelite image data such as Landsat TM and Jers-1 data. North Korea reported their ambitious territory expansion
Once-used $CO_2$-silicate bonded sand from domestic foundry is mostly discarded in a reclaimed land because of its bad collapsibility and reproduction properties. So this causes serious environmental problem. We can get 82% recovery of silica from used sand by scrubbing reclamation process in this research. When we repeat the reclamation-recycling of the foundry sand, artificial silica sand is broken down below 2-cycles, but natural silica sand does not destroyed when used repeatedly more than 10-cycles and have a good property of recycling with little change of its size.

The amount of coal ash has been increasing and development of effective use is urgently needed. Various by-products and waste are expected to be used as resources from the point of reduction in environmental load. This is an experimental study to compare the properties of high volume coal ash concrete using the reclaimed coal ash. For this purpose, authors have started work to develop a production method of hardening coal ash concrete. Laboratory tests show that the optimum mixture of coal ash concrete can be determined from multiple regression analysis. According to test results, it was found that the compressive strength of the concrete can be determined by a single curve. And it is obtained from the analysis of the results tested for concrete with the ratio of total power to water and amount of land reclamation ash.

Tertiary unconsolidated mudstones spread throughout the eastern coast of Pohang area. Recently, the demand for high quality filling materials is increasing due to harbors and large-scale residential land development. But the features of the reclaimed land using soft mudstones have not been made clear yet. Unconsolidated rocks are diversely considered according to a different method of the applied geotechnical investigation. This study is examined that the applicability of mudstone as a harbor reclamation material through the laboratory test and pilot test. Expecially, it must be considered that the environmental characteristics of mudstone as a reclaimed materials.
