Prediction-based Dynamic Thread Pool System for Massively Multi-player Online Game Server

  • Online game servers usually has been using the static thread pool system. But this system is not fit for huge online game server because the overhead is always up-and-down. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest the new algorithm for huge online game server. This algorithm is based on the prediction-based dynamic thread pool system. But it was developed for web servers and every 0.1 seconds the system prediction the needed numbers of threads and determine the thread pool size. Some experimental results show that the check time of 0.4 seconds is the best one for online game server and if the number of worker threads do not excess or lack to the given threshold then we do not predict and keep the current state. Otherwise we apply the prediction algorithm and change the number of threads. Some experimental results shows that this proposed algorithm reduce the overhead massively and make the performance of huge online game server improved in comparison to the static thread pool system.

  • The demand for automatic manufacturing systems is incerasing. Computer Integrated Manufacturing(CIM) technology is believed to be a solution for the problem to enhance productivities and flexibilities. Although researches on CIM have been conducted treendously, application of the technology is not widely accepted yet. The CIM research on the shop floor starts with the Flexible Manufacturing System(FMS). One of the crucial obstacles to the FMS is the lack of excellent strategies for efficient operations. The aim of this research is constructing an automation scheme in the low level of factories where various machinaries are involved. An operating strategy is established for an automation unit named as a cell which resides between the upper level computers and manufacturing shop floor. The cell is defined to fit into the total manufacturing system. The defined cell has more functions than conventional cells. A scheduling scheme is adopted for the shop floor operations. A set of software has been developed and tested through simulations and shop floor experiments.

  • The changing structure of organization and the increasing diversity of business have forced organizations to have abilities to coordinate dispersed business activities. They have required cooperation and coordination among the functional units in the organization which should involve group decision-making processes. Although many group decision-making support tools and methods have been introduced to enable the collaborative process of group decision-making, they often lack the features supporting the dynamic complexity issue frequently occurring at group decision-making processes. This results in cognitive unfit between the group decision-making tasks and their supporting tools, bringing about mixed results in their effects on group decision-making. This study proposes system dynamics modeling as a group decision-making support tool to deal with the group decision -making tasks having properties of dynamic complexity in terms of cognitive fit theory.

  • This research addresses the customers' reaction on enterprise CRM(customer relationship management) activities. Most of companies adopt CRM solution expecting revenue generation through customers' repurchasing, while customers accept to provide their personal information expecting some benefit from companies. Previous studies pointed out that many commercial organizations had difficulties yet to meet their goal of CRM due to lack of internal strategies. Moreover, the researches were focused only on companys' point of view. However, this paper finds the reason why companies' expectation does not fit and suggests the way to reduce mutual gap of expectation for successful CRM.

Testing for Lack of Fit via the Generalized Neyman Smooth Test

  • Smoothing tests based on an L$_2$ error between a truncated courier series estimator and a true function have shown good powers for a wide class of alternatives, These tests have the same form of the Neyman smooth test whose performance depends on the selected order, a basis, the farm of estimators. We construct flexible data driven Neyman smooth tests by changing a basis, combining model selection criteria and different series estimators. A simulation study shows that the generalized Neyman smooth test with the best basis provides good power for a wider class of alternatives compared with other data driven Neyman smooth tests based on a fixed form of estimator, a fixed basis and a fixed criterion.

  • The two major theoretical frameworks that have informed research on symbolic play and cognitive development were reviewed. Piaget and Vygotsky had different views of the role of symbolic play in children's development. For Piaget, play is primarily an assimilative activity; that is, in play, children modify reality to fit their existent cognitive schema and desires. In his view, play does not facilitate development, but it is used to consolidate existent concepts. For Vygotsky, play is a precursor to symbolization and is a leading factor in development. Particularly the lack of a sociocultural dimension in Piaget's theory brought about the influence of Vygotsky, for whom this dimension is central. However, the research yielded so far has not fully investigated the wider sociocultural elements that define and inform the play context. This article concludes by suggesting an approach to children's play that is directed by a proper estimation of the interaction between its cognitive, emotional, and sociocultural dimensions.

  • The 2 key bridge system has been developed to make crownless bridges without damaging sound teeth. Strong bridge work of single or multiple pontics is possible for replacing both anterior and posterior teeth. It is incresingly considerde to be unacceptable, by dentists as well as patients, to fully grind down healthy elements in order fit a conventional bridges. Because this technique uses a combination of hole and adhesive fitting, it has a number of adventages over etched bridges and conventional bridges: - In comparison with conventional bridges, hardly and healthy dental tissue is sacrificed - Due to the lack of crown edges there is no periodontal pressure, as is the case with conventional bridges - The treatment procedure is straight forward and involves less time than conventional bridges. - The treatment is largely resiverable and repairable

  • While information technology has been advanced impressively, the issue of system underutilization has continued. Although TAM provides a theoretical and empirical model for explaining information technology acceptance, there exist some issues: lack of focusing task and organization. The present study examines the motivational factors influencing the beliefs about the system, in terms or the extended TTF (task-technology fit) model, to address the issues. For this purpose, an exploratory case study was conducted based on the data gathered from a Web-based survey. The present research proposes five propositions, based on the results of the case study and prior study findings, which can be used as a starting point fur future research.

Impacts of Training and Education for Information Technology(IT):Empirical Study in the Service Industry

  • This research examines the importance of IT training/education, present situation and possible suggestion for the successful training/education. The research method adopts a comparative analytical approach based on questionnaire survey responses from three work groups - managers, employees, and union representatives - drawn from five sample Korean banks. The evidence indicates that all three groups agree that IT improves banking efficiency and reduces job repetitiveness, but their job satisfaction level with IT-based work is surprisingly very low. The main reasons are mainly lack of training/education and poor user manuals. Also the research shows that most respondents would like to get further training/education to more adequately fit them for their jobs. Those from banks which invested in continuing training/education revealed more positive work attitudes and higher job satisfaction.
