Research of the reduction measures for fall accident death in small scale construction sites. - On the Basis of work plate and scaffolding - (소규모 건설현장 떨어짐 사망재해 저감방안 연구 - 비계 및 작업발판 중심 -)

  • During five years (Year 2009~2013), Total victims of 72 %(81,560 people) and those 50.6 %(1,258 people) of death accident occurs in small scale construction site which operate 2 million USD less construction budget. Especially, falling death accident account for 785 people, in the share of 33.2 %(261 people) death disaster takes due to defect of original cause materials. The major safety issues in small scale work place take place while scaffold installation, disassembling, work-plate improper installation or non-professional skills of workers. Furthermore, labor subcontract systems make small construction site shortage of resources. Those workers regard work-plate as unnecessary and consumables supplies. Because of that most of workers use unsafe workplace in most construction site. Therefore, in order to prevent falling accident occurring in small scale work site, government should organize related regulations such as "Work site safety construction method" and then expands education support, financial aid, and sourcing safety supplies for work plate which offer broad variety experiences. Also, introduce certificate solutions for various work plates to improve safety function such as anchoring type method and anti sliding function.

Employers' Perceptions of Intimate Partner Violence among a Diverse Workforce

  • Objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant global public health concern, affecting 5.3 million US individuals annually. An estimated 1 in 3 women globally are abused by an intimate partner in their lifetime, and the effects carry over into the workplace. This article examines employers' perceptions of IPV in the workplace, targeting supervisors of Latina employees. Methods: Fourteen employers and supervisors of small service-sector companies in Oregon were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Interpretive description was used to identify themes. These qualitative interviews preceded and helped to formulate a larger workplace intervention study. Results: The following themes were found and are detailed: (1) factors associated with recognizing IPV in the workplace, (2) effects of IPV on the work environment and (3) supervisors' responses to IPV-active vs. passive involvement. Also, supervisors' suggestions for addressing IPV in the workplace are summarized. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the need for more IPV-related resources in the workplace to be available to supervisors as well as survivors and their coworkers. The needs of supervisors and workplaces vary by site, demonstrating the need for tailored interventions, and culturally appropriate workplace interventions are needed for Latinas and other racially and ethnically diverse populations.

Theoretical Examination of the Pay-for-Performance Practice: Case of a Shipbuilding Company

  • Pay-for-performance plans are some of widely used human resource practices in many firms, including shipbuilding, for productivity and motivational improvement purposes. Such plans play an important role in industries that are highly labor-intensive, and where effective management of human resources is critical to business operations, such as the shipbuilding industry. Those practices can have large impact on employee performance and ultimately company competitiveness. Research studies that show how such incentive plans improve productivity and reported pattern of adoption by firms have spurred the use and adoption in many firms. However, there are also researchers who point out that there are negative consequences to using incentive plans. Therefore it is important for companies to carefully consider the practices they use. In this paper, I discuss research findings that support the practices and critical viewpoints related to pay-for-performance plans. Research findings from Korean literature are, then, discussed. The shipbuilding industry is chosen because proper human resource management is critical in reducing turnover and increasing employee satisfaction. Through a shipbuilding company case, problems related to using pay-for-performance incentive plans and how they affect work-related issues of employee morale, cooperation, and teamwork will be discussed. While positive aspects have been emphasized to drive greater adoption among firms, the resulting consequences of the pay plans need to be seriously considered and improvements upon the plans made by firms. Improvement suggestions are discussed in the conclusions and implications.

  • This study aimed to develop an agroforestry technology through the participation of local people. The study was conducted in the Makiling Forest Reserve (MFR) of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB). Diagnosis and Design (D&D) methodology was employed to plan and implement effective research and development projects. Diagnostic interview and direct field observation were conducted to identify the significance of the land-use system and to understand how the system works. As a result of the diagnostic interview and direct field observation in San Vicente, old coconut-based land-use system is shifting to mahogany-based agroforestry system. One of the reasons is due to the very complicated socio-economic and silvicultural factors including lower price of coconut farm products, industry development, lack of labor force, and pest and diseases. Change in land use brought about by the shifting to mahogany-based farming system is slow. Also, mahogany trees are observed to be not well-maintained. However, mahogany based land use system gives farmers' a bigger income as well as environmental benefit. Farmer's cooperation and local forestry policy for CDM were proposed to encourage people's self-restoration effort.

  • The knowledge substitutes the traditional factors of production - land, labor, and capital - and has become one of the most important new resources. The Internet Knowledge Society is where the knowledge is the major source of development and competition. Now more than 350mi11ion computers are connected to internet servers and the internet users are more than 250mi11ion. The purpose of this paper is to propose some key factors for implementing the Police Knowledge Management System(PKMS) based on Intranet. With Information Technology(IT), the police administrative system will be much more efficient. Introducing the If into the system is critical for restructuring the police administrative system. This paper concludes as follows : ■ Knowledge is divided into tacit and explicit one. Knowledge process is divided into acquisition, accumulation, distribution and creation of knowledge. ■ The IntraNet is composed of Web server, FTP server, electric-mail server, and is constructed security system to safety. ■ All policemen are bound to serve as a new knowledge worker. ■ Police organization needs to operate data management system. The organization also needs to the Police Knowledge Management Center(PKMC). And the Police Chief Knowledge Officers(PCKO) needs to be appointed to manage the PKMC. ■ An information and knowledge infrastructure(various databases are the most important factor) should be established within the organization to promote the self-directed management, the interactive communication, and the learning ability of the members.

  • The reference guide for the cost of establishing the digital documents has been used as a basis for establishing the budget for the construction of the knowledge information resource. However, due to the abolition of the nominal unit price notification in terms of IT projects, it is necessary to conduct research to convert the standard of the current labor force grade standard to the national incompetency standard (NCS). In this study, we investigate and revise the system and contents of the current knowledge information cost estimation model. In specific, i) we conducted gap analysis of cost estimation model and existing NCS model. As the contents conforming for the construction of the knowledge information resource were not adoptable, we define the description of the construction of the knowledge information resource and to identify the core elements of NCS prior to the improvement of the cost model. ⅱ) then we proposed improve the cost model considering integration with newly proposed NCS model for knowledge information construction job. In order to ensure the validity of the application of NCS development and cost estimation model, the experts reviewed relevant contents and made plans for improvement by using experts from supply and demand groups of various fields of national knowledge informatization projects.

Physiological Approach on the Physical Fitness and Postural Balance Effects of a Whole-Body Vertical Vibration Intervention in Young Women

  • With the advent of westernized diet and a lack of exercise, young female college students are paying more attention to their bodyweight and health. Whole-body vibration has been demonstrated to be a suitable training method for improving knee extension maximal strength in young female athletes, as well as the gait performance in elderly women. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a vertical vibration intervention on the physical fitness and postural balance in young females. Fifty-four young women were recruited; all subjects were randomly assigned to the intervention group and control group. The intervention group underwent vertical vibration with a platform for 12 weeks. The results showed that body mass index and body fat percentage had decreased (P<0.05). In addition, their muscle endurance as indicated by a sit-up test and their flexibility as indicated by a sit-and-reach test were both increased. With regard to postural balance, their 30-second sit-to-stand and timed up and go test results were improved. At the same time, their mean single-leg stance with eyes closed time increased (P<0.05). However, there were no significant differences, meanwhile, for the control group. Overall, the results showed that the whole body vibration (WBV) intervention had some beneficial effects on physical fitness and postural balance in young women.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest guidelines for building up an integrated information network(IIN) model that enables to enhance production, flow and use of knowledge and information. The IIN consists of four areas of key infrastructure, such as, education, labor market, school-industry cooperation, and lifelong education information infrastructure. Based on the analysis of current situations and problems of each information infrastructure, this paper raises variety of issues and solutions for the IIN model. Directions for building up the IIN includes both information base infrastructure and information support infrastructure.

  • Korea has recently joined the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and currently implements a policy of vastly expanding the size of ODA. Indonesia has highly possessed growth potential in terms of vast quantity of natural resources, cheap labor force, and large local markets. Researches on how to support the Special Territory of Aceh province were made in this study. There is a necessity to increase the capacity of matter to the fishermen, and support facilities and infrastructure assistance to support the safety system in the sea.

  • Competition to attract customers to the increase of the golf club, but the less people enjoying golf for a variety of issues, including the economic downturn, so golf is going deepened. Therefore, the local golf club is faced with the difficulty of management. In the case of the golf club human resource is the most important factor, because it has a high labor intensive nature of the industry as a type of facilities and services on the basis of intangible human resources. In this paper, to confirm the internal marketing activities and internal service quality, basic premise is that for an external customer satisfaction, internal customer satisfaction should be preceded, and try to analyze these execution factors on job satisfaction and customer orientation, either directly or indirectly affected. The empirical results, the management support in the internal marketing activities were the factors affecting the intrinsic job satisfaction, and the internal service quality were factors affecting employees of the intrinsic job satisfaction and extrinsic job satisfaction.
