한국산(韓國産) 잣나무의 펄프화(化)에 관한 연구(硏究)(I) -열처리(熱處理)가 크라프트 펄프화(化)에 미치는 영향(影響)- (Studies on the Pulping of the Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. Grown in Korea (I) -Effect of Heat Treatment of Chip on the Kraft Pulping-)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 우리나라 주요(主要) 장기조림수종(長期造林樹種)에 포함(包含)되어 있는 잣나무의 펄프자원화(資源化)를 위한 일환(一環)으로, 크리프트펄프화시(化時) 발생(發生)될 수 있는 pitch trouble을 감소(減少)시키기 위하여, 칩을 온도별(温度別)(40, 50, $60^{\circ}C$) 및 시간별(時間別)(1, 3, 5, 7일(日))로 열처리(熱處理)를 실시(實施)하고, 그에 따른 수지함량(樹脂含量)과 종이의 물리적(物理的) 성질(性質)을 조사(調査)하기 위하여 수행(修行)되었다. 본(本) 연구(硏究) 결과(結果)로 $40^{\circ}C$로 열처리(熱處理)한 것이 인공조림목(人工造林木) 및 천연림목(天然林木)에 대(對)하여 모두 수율(收率) 및 수지함량(樹脂含量)에 있어서 가장 좋은 결과(結果)를 보였으나, 다른 성질(性質)은 거의 개선(改善)되지 않거나, 또는 오히려 악화되는 결과(結果)를 초래(招來)하였다. 종이의 강도적(強度的) 성질(性質)은 처리조건(處理條件)에 따른 다른 효과(効果)를 나타내어, 실용화(實用化)를 위해서는 원료(原料), 펄프화법(化法) 및 펄프의 용도(用途)에 따라 적절(適切)한 열처리(熱處理) 조건(條件)을 선택(選擇)하므로써, 수지함량(樹脂含量) 및 펄프품질면에서 가장 바람직한 효과(効果)를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 기대(期待)된다.

나노 콜로이달 실리카를 이용한 포장용지의 미끄럼특성 제어 (The Control of Anti-slip Characteristics of Packaging Paper Using Nano-colloidal Silica)

  • In this study, a nano-colloidal silica sol was applied to control the anti-slip property by spraying on kraft paper. Two kinds of nano-colloidal silica sol which have cationic and anionic charge were applied in kraft paper, and the friction and physical strength properties of kraft paper were investigated. The application of colloidal silica sol on wet web in wet-end process by spraying method was tried to improve the friction property and to avoid the general problems of machine contaminations caused by the scattering of sprayed silica particles in dryer part. The physical properties of sheet were also improved by the application of wet web spraying method, and the optimum conditions of wet web spraying operation were closely related with the conditions of pH and electrical charge of wet web and silica sol.

Kraft Lignin Biodegradation by Dysgonomonas sp. WJDL-Y1, a New Anaerobic Bacterial Strain Isolated from Sludge of a Pulp and Paper MillS

  • Wastewater containing kraft lignin (KL) discharged from pulp and paper industries could cause serious environmental contamination. Appropriate effluent treatment is required to reduce the pollution. Investigations on anaerobic bacteria capable of degrading KL are beneficial to both lignin removal and biofuel regeneration from the effluent. In this paper, an anaerobic strain capable of degrading KL was isolated from the sludge of a pulp and paper mill and identified as Dysgonomonas sp. WJDL-Y1 by 16S rRNA analysis. Optimum conditions for KL degradation by strain WJDL-Y1 were obtained at initial pH of 6.8, C:N ratio of 6 and temperature of 33℃, based on statistical analyses by response surface methodology. For a 1.2 g/l KL solution, a COD removal rate of 20.7% concomitant with biomass increase of 17.6% was achieved after 4 days of incubation under the optimum conditions. After the treatment by strain WJDL-Y1, KL was modified and degraded.

울산 산업단지인근 해변지역에서의 저 농도 황화수소 측정 (Measurement of Low Hydrogen Sulfide Concentrations in the Coastal Area Near the Ulsan Industrial Complex)

  • Concentrations of hydrogen sulfide in ambient air have been measured from January 2014 to June 2016 in a coastal area near the Ulsan National Industrial Complex. The measurement sites were 1 km, 2.6 km, 5.6 km, and 20 km away from a kraft pulp mill, which is located at the most southern edge of the complex. Concentrations above 0.4 ppb were monitored every 5 min and the highest concentration of the day was determined. From a total of 775 measurement days, hydrogen sulfide concentrations > 20 ppb were recorded on 36 and 38 days at the measurement site closest to the mill and the residential area 2.6 km away from the mill, respectively. At the site farthest from the mill, the concentrations were always 20 ppb lower than the malodor regulation for the residential area but sometimes higher than the odor recognition threshold for hydrogen sulfide. Although several emission sources of hydrogen sulfide have been published in the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register of Korea, the kraft pulp mill is considered to be the biggest contributor of atmospheric hydrogen sulfide in the southern coastal area of Ulsan.

Impact of Lignin Determination Method on Oxygen Delignification Chemistry

  • In previous report, we investigated the impact of hexeneuronic acid and some residual extractiveson lignin determination. These non-lignin components severely interfered lignin content determination which also affect on the oxygen delignification comparison between aspen and pine unbleached kraft pulps. Very different pattern was observed whether based on uncorrected conventional kappa number or based on corrected kappa number in oxygen delignification comparison. Lower kappa number aspen pulps showed poor response to oxygen delignification when kappa number was used as lignin determination method but better response with using the acid lignin method. Phenolic hydroxyl group in kraft pulps were also compared based on uncorrected or corrected kappa numberfor lignin content. Based on uncorrected kappa number, lower kappa number oxygen-delignified pulps had lower phenolic hydroxyl group. However, lower kappa number oxygen-delignified pulps showed much higher phenolic hydroxyl group based on the corrected lignin content. For accurate comparison for residual lignin properties from different pulps, lignin determination should be corrected from non-lignin components contribution to lignin.

  • Kraft pulp 폐액에 다량 존재하는 lignin을 회수 이용하기 위하여 폐액을 조제하고 유기용매로 추출 정제하여 각 fraction별로 $^{13}C$-NMR 및 IR 스펙트라로 측정분석하였다. 그 결과 Kirk 방법보다는 M$\ddot{o}$rck 방법으로 정제한 시료가 lignin의 특징적인 signal들을 많이 나타나고 있는 점과 특히 MCS fraction은 방향핵이나 측쇄의 signal들이 잘 나타나고 있으며, KLI fraction에서는 methoxyl기와 C-${\beta}$의 signal이 잘 나타나고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다.

대나무를 이용한 각종 화학펄프 제조에 관한 연구 (Studies on the production of Various Chemical Pulps from Bamboo)

  • This study was carried out to acquire basic data necessary for the use of non-wood pulp. It investigated various chemical pulping methods using bamboo to achieve higher yield lower kappa no. and then the physical properties of various pulps were tested. The results of this study were as follows. When various chemical pulps(Soda, Soda-AQ, Soda-AQ-H2O2, Soda-urea, AS, AS-AQ, Kraft) were produced with bamboo. the pulps with the higher yield and lower kappa no. were AS-AQ and Kraft. In the case of the breaking length Soda pulps(5.77∼6.46 km) showed the greatest and Soda-urea pulps(3.81∼4.522km) showed the lower value. Similarly for the burst index Soda pulps (3.28∼3.50 kPa$.$m2/g) were the best and Soda-urea pulps(2.29∼2.39 kPa$.$m2/g) were worst. On the other hand the tearing indexes of AS-AQ pulps(73.6∼89.7mN$.$m2/g) showed the tendency which was higher then those of other pulps.

전자선 전처리에 따른 침엽수 미표백 크라프트 펄프의 특성평가 (Effect of Electron Beam Irradiation on the Properties of Softwood Unbleached Kraft Pulp)

  • Electron beam irradiation is also an eco-friendly treatment compared to other physical and chemical treatments. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the possibilities of energy savings by applying electron beam irradiation to the refining process. After softwood unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) was irradiated with electron beams at 50 and 100 kGy, it was beaten in a laboratory beater, and then its freeness and fiber properties were analyzed. The physical properties of their fiber handsheet were also and measured. As the irradiation dose of the electron beam and the beating time increased, lower freeness and fiber lengths of the UKP were observed. Handsheets made from UKP that was irradiated by electron beam and beaten showed a reciprocal relationship with the irradiation dose of the electron beam, in particular, the strength of the handsheets decreased dramatically at 100 kGy of irradiation. Therefore, it was confirmed that electron beam irradiation is effective in reducing the beating time or beating energy. But the irradiation dose must be controlled under 50 kGy to minimize the loss of paper strength.
