  • Sixty-four obsidian artifacts found in the Korean Peninsula have been characterised by a study of their minor elements and Sr isotope ratio. The artifacts are from the following locations: Yondaedo Island; Yokjido Island; Sangnodaedo Island, Tongyeong, Gyeongnam; Dongsamdong, Busan; Songdo Island, Yeosu, Jeonnam; Suyanggae, Danyang, Chungbuk; Sangmuyongri, Yanggu, Gangwondo; Paektusan Mountain; Kyushu region, Japan. The study of minor elements and Sr isotope ratio recognised three distinct major groups. This result suggests that there are no correlations among the three groups whose provenances are different. But as a result of classification using Sr isotope ratio, obsidian artifacts found in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula classified two groups within C group. This research will furnish scientific datum to be able to mutual comparison of obsidians excavated from other site.

  • In this paper GPS data for the period from January 2002 to June 2004 (910 days) were analyzed to quantitatively investigate the plate deformation patterns and distributions in the Korean peninsula. The GPS network is composed of 45 permanent GPS stations. The daily data were analyzed using the GAMIT/GLOBK software and the precise orbits generated by the International GNSS Service (IGS). The research result make it possible to understand the tendency of crustal movement in and around the Korean peninsula, which have an effect on the occurrence of earthquake.

  • In this study, we estimated the topside scale height of plasma density (Hm) using the Swarm constellation and ionosondes in Korea. The Hm above Korean Peninsula is generally around 50 km. Statistical distributions of the topside scale height exhibited a complex dependence upon local time and season. The results were in general agreement with those of Tulasi Ram et al. (2009), who used the same method to calculate the topside scale height in a mid-latitude region. On the contrary, our results did not fully coincide with those obtained by Liu et al. (2007), who used electron density profiles from Arecibo Incoherent Scatter Radar (ISR) between 1966 and 2002. The disagreement may result from the limitations in our approximation method and data coverage used for estimations, as well as the inherent dependence of Hm on Geographic LONgitude (GLON).

  • With the discovery of Didineis sibirica and Alysson moticola in South Korea, the tribe Alyssontini Dalla Torre of the Korean Peninsula is supplemented. The genus Didineis Wesmael is reported for the first time in the Korean Peninsula. It is easily separated by the following combination of characteristics from the genus Alysson, another member of Alyssontini occurring in the Far East. In both sexes, fore wing media diverging much before cu-a; metapleuron much less half as long as high; metasomal tergum 2 without pale spots. In males, the last antennal segment is strongly incurved and opposed by a projection from antennal segment 12. Alysson monticola is also new to Korea. Of the Far Eastern species with triangular propodeal enclosure, this species is unique with extended inter-antennal marking. In this study, list of all the known Korean species of the tribe, diagnostic characteristics and digital images are provided.

  • The purpose of this study is analysis of Korean peninsula aircraft turbulence using the numerical weather prediction model, KWRF with the various turbulence index and pilot weather report data. Compared with the pilot weather report data and Calculated the turbulence index using the KWRF model result, many turbulence index show the similar horizontal distribution, except for the TUB2 and VWS. The analysis of vertical structure of turbulence, there are some difference each turbulence index respectively, but severe turbulence turn up in 15,000ft almost turbulence index. above 20,000ft height, intensity of turbulence vary each turbulence index. Through this turbulence study, It is founded on the research and development of the Korean peninsula aircraft turbulence

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the aircraft icing index of Korean peninsula using the numerical weather prediction model, KWRF and pilot weather report data. As comparing the pilot weather report data with the calculated icing index using the KWRF model result, SCLW, RAP, and AFGWC index are more useful than any other index, and IC2, NAWAU, and RSID index are different case by case. But IC1, SID1 and SID2 index show that these overestimated severe icing in every vertical level. Through this icing study, it is expected that this study will help to develop the proper icing index of Korean peninsula.

  • Adult caddisflies were collected from 11 sites in Cheongdo-gun (Gyeongsangbuk-do) and Miryang-si (Gyeongsangnam-do) in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. Collections on August 28 to 30, 2015, by aerial sweeping and light trapping, included one new species and four newly recorded species from the Korean Peninsula. Description of the new species Paduniella unmun Inaba and Park (Psychomyiidae), and re-description of the four species (Polyplectropus malickyi Nozaki et al., 2010, Tinodes furcatus Li and Morse, 1997, Cheumatopsyche tanidai $Ol{\acute{a}}h$ and Johanson, 2008, and Diplectrona kibuneana Tsuda, 1940) are provided. Additionally, we recognize that a larva described as Diplectrona KUa is the larval stage of D. kibuneana.

  • The objective of this paper is to apply a newly developed wavelet-based semblance filtering and eigenvalue analysis to investigate the geomagnetic variations in some micro-earthquakes that had occurred in the Korean Peninsula. The wavelet-based filtering showed improved results in delineating the geomagnetic variations in relation to earthquake events from their background field. In addition, the eigenvalues analysis was also useful for the interpretation of three components geomagnetic fields during the earthquake events. The wavelet-based semblance analysis showed a prominent result for short-term geomagnetic variation related to the earthquake event, and the eigenvalue analysis was feasible to long-term geomagnetic variation. Considering the fact that the basement rock of the Korean Peninsula has a highly resistive electrical structure, it seems to be possible for small magnitude earthquakes to generate some distinguished geomagnetic variations.

  • Trend of sea level change has been analysed by using the tidal data gathered at the 12 tide stations along the coast of Korean peninsula. Analysis and prediction of the sea level change were performed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). For the period of 20 years from 1976 to 1995, the trend generally shows a rising pattern such as 0.22 cm/yr, 0.29 cm/yr, and 0.59 cm/yr along the eastern, southern, and western coast of Korea, respectively. On the average the sea level around the Korean peninsula seems to be rising at a rate of 0.37 cm/yr. Adopting the average rate to the sea level prediction model proposed by EPA (Titus and Narrayanan, 1995), the sea level may be approximately 50$\~$60 cm higher than the present sea level by the end of the next century.
