  • Sensitivity has become more important in relation to design in a changing social environment and atmosphere. In the West, the concept of aesthetics has long been established but in the East, only in the seventeenth and eighteenth century China the discussion had begun. In Korea where the first scholarly discussion on aesthetics had begun around 1929, more and more rigorous and theoretical discussions emerge nowadays. Korean beauty consists of unplanned Beauty and unplanned planned Beauty. Japanese beauty consists of the beauty of half-articulation and the beauty of articulation. While both Korea and Japan base their sense of beauty on nature, Korea emphasizes the nature as it is and Japan values the artful decorative elements. In modern Korean fashion, the characteristic Korean aesthetics of unplanned Beauty appears in the various expressive techniques such as the movement with natural gathering, the use of natural materials like cotton, the harmonization of black and white, and simplified silhouette. Also, there are plays on balance and proportion using straight and curves lines and variegated colors and creative printing, intentional asymmetry, and destrution.

Applying this to necktie design, Design 1 imagined the silhouette of a man wearing a Got and Durumagi. This applied emphasis beauty. Design 2 applied the shaking images of Got and Got-kkeun to apply rhythmical and emphasis beauty. Design 3 applied a man's upper body silhouette and the shape of wearing a Got. This was to apply natural beauty and emphasis beauty. Design 4 applied the shape of Got-kkeun and Gwanja to rhythmical beauty and natural beauty. The significance of this study is that the development of necktie designs using formative Korean elements can be a part of efforts to recognize the possibility of traditional Korean culture and to explore developmental directions under the current situation in which Western clothing is accepted without thought.

  • This research focuses on 10 modern museums built in Europe near important cultural assets of UNESCO World Heritage level. This study aims to reveal the coexistence of European laminated history and contemporary architecture by considering various aspects of respecting the existing and maintaining their identity as modern buildings, using these cultural assets as a basic concept of planning while minimizing conflicts with the past. The four measures of respecting existing cultural heritage are arranged by showing respect by lowering oneself, sympathizing with others, preparing for harmony with modernity, and communicating by looking at. The measures that reveal the identity of modern buildings are confirmed by classifying them as modern and post-modern approaches, each with several options. Through this study, we have been able to extract useful lessons for us, as well, while the past and present coexist successfully, by taking history as a reliable guide to take a fresh leap from it, rather than as a solidified remnant of inertness.
