GOMME: A Generic Ontology Modelling Methodology for Epics

  • Ontological knowledge modelling of epic texts, though being an established research arena backed by concrete multilingual and multicultural works, still suffers from two key shortcomings. Firstly, all epic ontological models developed till date have been designed following ad-hoc methodologies, most often combining existing general purpose ontology development methodologies. Secondly, none of the ad-hoc methodologies consider the potential reuse of existing epic ontological models for enrichment, if available. This paper presents, as a unified solution to the above shortcomings, the design and development of GOMME - the first dedicated methodology for iterative ontological modelling of epics, potentially extensible to works in different research arenas of digital humanities in general. GOMME is grounded in transdisciplinary foundations of canonical norms for epics, knowledge modelling best practices, application satisfiability norms, and cognitive generative questions. It is also the first methodology (in epic modelling but also in general) to be flexible enough to integrate, in practice, the options of knowledge modelling via reuse or from scratch. The feasibility of GOMME is validated via a first brief implementation of ontological modelling of the Indian epic Mahabharata by reusing an existing ontology. The preliminary results are promising, with the GOMME-produced model being both ontologically thorough and competent performance-wise.

  • In this paper, a modelling methodology for a robotic workcell is proposed and compared with the conventional Petri nets model. Also, a method for managing the cell operation is described through the knowledge base. The knowledge bases for state transition and assembly job information are obtained from the state transition map(STM) and the assembly job tree(AJT), respectively. Using the knowledge base, the system structure is discussed in both managing the cell operation and evaluating the various performance. Finally, a simulation algorithm is presented with the simulation results to show the effectiveness of the proposed modelling approach.

  • We propose a framework for modelling and operation management of robotic assembly cells via knowledge base. In the framework, each component of the cell is considered as a state variable, the relations among the state variables are stored in state transition maps(STMs) and then transformed into the form of knowledge. The assembly job tree(AJT) which includes the precedence relations and the constraints for assembly tasks is also described. Finally, an algorithm is presented to manage the cell operation.

  • 심볼레벨에서 개발된 1세대 전문가시스템의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 최근 지식레벨에서 2세대 전문가시스템을 개발하기 위한 여러 가지 방법들이 제안되었으나, 대개 개념적인 모델링 기법을 제시하는 수준에 머무르고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 개념적인 모델링 기법이 실용 가능한 개발기법이 될 수 있도록 기존의 연구 내용을 수정, 보완한 태스크 객체 모델링(TOM) 기법을 제시하였다. 이 기법에서 태스크 객체(TO)는 자신의 목표와 수행 조건, 실행할 행위 지식 등을 포함하는 하나의 지식 단위로 정의하고, TO의 구조적, 동적, 기능적 측면을 쉽게 도식화할 수 있는 태스크 객체 다이어그램(TOD)을 정의하였다. 또한, 각 TO의 행위 지식을 표현하는 기본 단위로서 추론유형(Inference Type)들을 정의하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 TOM 기법이 단순히 개념적인 모델링 기법이 아니라 실용적인 2세대 전문가시스템 개발기법으로 활용될 수 있도록 TOD 에디터와 TO 에디터를 개발하고, TO의 상태 변화에 기반을 둔 TO 처리 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한, 정의된 추론유형들이 대표적인 전문가시스템 개발도구인 IRE(Intelligent Rules element)의 메소드로 자동 변환 될 수 있도록, 각각의 추론유형과 IRE의 메소드를 1: 1로 대응시킨 추론 유형 라이브러리를 구축하였다.

FUNCTIONAL MODELLING FOR FAULT DIAGNOSIS AND ITS APPLICATION FOR NPP

  • The paper presents functional modelling and its application for diagnosis in nuclear power plants. Functional modelling is defined and its relevance for coping with the complexity of diagnosis in large scale systems like nuclear plants is explained. The diagnosis task is analyzed and it is demonstrated that the levels of abstraction in models for diagnosis must reflect plant knowledge about goals and functions which is represented in functional modelling. Multilevel flow modelling (MFM), which is a method for functional modelling, is introduced briefly and illustrated with a cooling system example. The use of MFM for reasoning about causes and consequences is explained in detail and demonstrated using the reasoning tool, the MFMSuite. MFM applications in nuclear power systems are described by two examples: a PWR; and an FBR reactor. The PWR example show how MFM can be used to model and reason about operating modes. The FBR example illustrates how the modelling development effort can be managed by proper strategies including decomposition and reuse.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the modelling behavior of public type quasi-government sector CEO. The results of the study on the 100 CEO is as followes as: 1) Such behavior as pointed by government is more frequently practiced by CEO of the quasi-government sector. 2) The general level of model ling behavior by CEO doesn't meet the expectations of the outsider in spite of the many effort of the CEO, 3) Effective practice of the modelling behavior is not performed because of the unsufficient knowledge about the modelling behavior of the CEO. Lastly, the summary and implications of this study is followed.

Fostering Students' Statistical Thinking through Data Modelling

  • Statistical thinking has a broad definition but focuses on the context of regression modelling in the present study. To foster students' statistical thinking within the context, teaching should no longer be seen as transfer of knowledge from teacher to students but as a process of engaging with learning activities in which they develop ownership of knowledge. This study aims at collaborative learning contexts; students were divided into small groups in order to increase opportunities for peer collaboration. Each group of students was asked to do a regression project after class. Through doing the project, they learnt to organize and connect previously accrued piecemeal statistical knowledge in an integrated manner. They could also clarify misunderstandings and solve problems through verbal exchanges among themselves. They gave a clear and lucid account of the model they had built and showed collaborative interactions when presenting their projects in front of class. A survey was conducted to solicit their feedback on how peer collaboration would facilitate learning of statistics. Almost all students found their interaction with their peers productive; they focused on the development of statistical thinking with concerted effort.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design and machining of irregular shaped-sheet metal product for blanking or piercing operation. An approach to the CAD/CAM system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the CAD/CAM system is formulated from plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. The system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD and in customer tool kit on the SmartCAM with a personal computer and is composed of nine modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern-layout, production feasibility check, blank-layout, strip-layout, die-layout, data conversion, modelling, and post-processor module. Based on knowledge-based rules, the system is designed by considering several factors, such as material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, diameter and material of a wire, and availability of press. This system is capable of generating NC data automatically according to drawings of die-layout module. Results which are carried out in each module will provide efficiencies to the designer and the manufacturer of blanking or piercing die in this field.

  • In this paper, we give descriptions that the choices made in the Knowledge modelling or representation in Computer Evironments can modify the meaning of this knowledge through a process similar to that of the didactical transpostion. Thus, they are likely to have effects on learning. These problems and phenomena are consequences of general constraints of computer and an algorithms built-in computers. Students may not learn the knowledge intended by teacher. Teacher is always on the alert for the changable mathematical knowledge in computer-based environments. It is an important role of teachers in new teaching and learning environment.

  • 공유 경제는 쓰지 않은 자원을 다른 사람들과 나누어 쓰는 협력적 소비로 인식되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 공유 숙박업 이용 고객들의 충성도에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 살펴보고자 하였다. 고객들이 공유 숙박업 경험에서 느낀 감정과 자아 이미지 일치성, 인지된 가치를 고객 충성도에 영향을 주는 선행요인으로 고려하였다. 그리고 진정한 경험, 숙소 시설, 가격 공정성을 공유 숙박업의 선택속성으로 고려하였다. Airbnb가 공유 숙박업에서 가장 큰 업체이기 때문에 설문 대상으로 선정하였다. 294명의 Airbnb 이용 고객 데이터를 바탕으로 구조 방정식 모형을 활용하여 요인들 간 관계를 분석하였다. 또한, Airbnb를 이용한 고객이 작성한 리뷰를 통해 고객이 어떤 사항을 중요하게 고려하였는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 네이버 블로그에서 Airbnb 리뷰를 수집하여 LDA기반 토픽모델링을 실시하였다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 공유 숙박업에 대한 고객들의 충성도에 영향을 미치는 요인들에 대한 이해를 바탕으로, 효과적인 마케팅 전략과 운영 관리 전략을 수립하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
