Growth Stage Model for Knowledge Management Success and Its Use (지식경영의 성공을 위한 성장단계 모형과 활용)

  • Based on the diffusion of innovation paradigm, this study conceptualizes the constituent components (3P) and the growth stages (6C) for knowledge management. It is critical for knowledge management efforts to identify 'where we are' and decide 'where to go' and then to manage 'how to go'. As a framework for the success of knowledge management, the 3P6C model is intended to systematically guide these efforts toward knowledge asset management and implementation, for knowledge productivity. This model is illustratively applied to such success stories as in Skandia, Buchman Lab and Hall Mark Cards. Such applications of this model show that they have been through such prior activities required in the earlier stages, and thattechnological platform is just one of the 3 key components working as an enabler, implying together the existence of growth path in KM success. Provided in the appendix are a set of exemplary scenarios in knowledge management practice for growth stage assessment.

  • As the knowledge is recognized as a core factor of organization's competitiveness and creation of value added, the importance of knowledge management is also increased. To achieve the successful knowledge management, it is important to establish strategy that consider essential purpose of knowledge management such as creating and sharing of knowledge resource, improving performance, and continuing organizational innovation within the organization and influence factor inside and outside of organization. Until now, however, the research for knowledge management strategy was mostly limited to the statistical analysis based on the unilinear causality model, and systematic access and analysis that consider interaction and feedback structure between factors. In this paper, we developed the novel decision-making framework for successful strategy establishment by applying the analytic network process(ANP). Specifically. we derive clusters and components to decide the interaction and feedback structure between the elements of knowledge management by literature studies. And we produced relative importance and preference of clusters, components and alternatives dealing with feedback structure through the survey of experts in the field or related one of knowledge management. In result of this study, we expect that it will help the knowledge officer to decide establishing knowledge management strategy.

  • Although the concept of viewing knowledge as a critical resource has been widely accepted in prior studies, it is not fully understood how to acquire available knowledge in order to improve organizational effectiveness. However, it si sure that organizational knowledge management should pursuit the achievement of the business goal by delivering relevant and useful information to the right person at the right time. Group Support System (GSS) can play an important role to transfer scatter information into meaningful business knowledge for supporting strategic corporate decision-making. This study proposes a fuzzy GSS framework for acquiring workgroup knowledge from individual memory and aggregating workgroup knowledge to organizational knowledge. This study also proposes an architecture to support the fuzzy GSS framework. The architecture consists of user agents, information management agents, and a fuzzy model manager. To illustrate how the fuzzy GSS framework can be used to support the whole process of organization knowledge acquisition, an Internet-based GSS was developed and applied in a marketing decision process. It showed that the framework was effective for acquiring organizational knowledge.

  • The management of enterprise knowledge has been increasingly important because knowledge emerges as the new basis of competition in postcapitalist society. One of the key issues in knowledge management is to put knowledge into a repository where it can be easily stored, reused, and recreated. This paper proposes a model repository and the corresponding knowledge management framework. The emphases of model repository is on abstraction knowledge in the form of schematic models. Two major benefits are model independence and model integration. A metaschema is constructed according to six conceptual components: separate unit, external link, internal link, separate unite descriptor, link descriptor, and composite descriptor, which can be applied for a variety of models.   • The 21st century survive only who creating, taking, and managing to knowledge. Digital contents industry becomes to the core in the future. That is, to win in a competition have to the digitalizing knowledge contents to all knowledge and information resources. Therefore, it needs to the digital contents management and the distribution framework. This study aims to propose a model stages in the knowledge contents-decision process, KM Matrix, and KMI Score founded on digital contents framework and diffusion of innovation.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of knowledge management on the organizational performance by using structural equation model and to suggest new integrated framework about knowledge management by understanding the determinants of organizational capability to knowledge management in social capital point of view. To serve the purpose of this study, we conducted the extensive survey on 256 Korean companies in diverse industries including the manufacturing. Specifically, from the empirical result of this study, we identified that knowledge management performs more actively as the level of social capital increases, and the company that achieve knowledge management actively shows relatively higher performance than one that do not. On the other hand, among the sub-factors composing the social capital, Vision/Purpose/Value and Norms of Reciprocity directly affect to the organizational performance without knowledge management.

  • Recently, Knowledge Management (KM) has been applied to construction industry. Surprising, there is few studies that address the most fundamental problem in KM: people may prefer not to share their knowledge so as to preserve their intellectual or unique values in the organization. Without the premise of each individual's willingness to share knowledge, there will be no valuable input for the IT system and, thus, no knowledge management at all. This paper aims to model the behavioral dynamics of knowledge sharing and to design an incentive system that may facilitate knowledge sharing for construction companies. In this paper, a game-theory based model will be developed, and the framework for designing an incentive system will be proposed according to the model.

  • Knowledge has become an important resource for organization. The manufacturing industry is usually operated on the basis of business processes, and most workers are familiar with their own processes. The process-based approach, therefore, can provide an efficient way to capture and navigate knowledge. In this study, we focus on knowledge which may be missed during knowledge transfer among workers. For this, we propose a method for analyzing knowledge flow, which is passed among business processes. We propose a process-based knowledge management framework for analyzing knowledge flow, which employs a two-phase analysis: process analysis and knowledge flow analysis. A knowledge flow model, represented by Knowledge Flow Diagram, is proposed as a tool for representing knowledge. We formulate several semantics for knowledge flow modeling. We build the three-level schema: conceptual, logical, and physical in order to automate the knowledge model adaptive to knowledge management systems. The proposed approach is verified and illustrated through a case study on the manufacturing process of A Company.

Automation of Expert Classification in Knowledge Management Systems Using Text Categorization Technique (문서 범주화를 이용한 지식관리시스템에서의 전문가 분류 자동화)

  • This paper proposes how to build an expert profile database in KMS, which provides the information of expertise that each expert possesses in the organization. To manage tacit knowledge in a knowledge management system, recent researches in this field have shown that it is more applicable in many ways to provide expert search mechanisms in KMS to pinpoint experts in the organizations with searched expertise so that users can contact them for help. In this paper, we develop a framework to automate expert classification using a text categorization technique called Vector Space Model, through which an expert database composed of all the compiled profile information is built. This approach minimizes the maintenance cost of manual expert profiling while eliminating the possibility of incorrectness and obsolescence resulted from subjective manual processing. Also, we define the structure of expertise so that we can implement the expert classification framework to build an expert database in KMS. The developed prototype system, "Knowledge Portal for Researchers in Science and Technology," is introduced to show the applicability of the proposed framework.
