A low temperature decal (LTD) transfer method is tried to fabricated hydrocarbon (HC) membrane based MEA. Sandwiched structures of outer ionomer/catalyst/carbon coating/substrate, which had been developed for Nafion membrane, are used for transfer of catalyst to the HC membrane. Performances of the HC MEA before and after 500hr continuous operation are compared and it is found that a severe delamination occurs at the interface between the HC membrane and the catalyst layer, which is the main reason of the low performance and its degradation. The delamination is due probably to the different nature of HC membrane to the Nafion ionomer. A substitutional method, therefore, is suggested to overcome this. In such a way, the outer ionomer process is removed and the low transfer rate of catalyst by skipping the ionomer process is compensated with optimization of other process variables such as transfer time or temperature. The resulting performance is superior to the original LTD method, which can be explained in terms of low resistive components both in ohmic and kinetic.
Hydraulic modeling is widely used to simulate wastewater flow. The simulated models are used to prevent flood and many other problems associated with wastewater flow in planning or rehabilitating sewer systems. In this study, MAKESW (An engineer, South Korea), MOUSE (DHI, Denmark), and SWMM (XPSoftware, USA) are used to for hydraulic modeling of wastewater in C-city, South Korea and E-city, Iraq. These modeling tools produced different results. SWMM comparably overpredicted runoff and peak flow. In using SWMM, use of accurate data with a high confidential level, detail examination over the target basin surface, and the careful selection of a runoff model, which describes Korea's unique hydraulic characteristics are recommended. Modification of existing models through the optimization of variables cannot be achieved at this moment. Setting up an integrated modeling environment is considered to be essential to utilize modeling and further apply the results for various projects. Standardization of GIS database, the criteria for and the scope of model application, and database management systems need to be prepared to expand modeling application.
The electrochemical activity of the olivine type $LiMPO_4$ (M=transition metals) cathodes strongly depends on various factors, e.g., the transition metal element M, perturbative doping of the supervalent cations into Li site, composite formation with conductive additives, state of charge/discharge, and particle size and its geometries, etc. This is, therefore, an important issue of interdisciplinary between electrochemistry and solid state science towards practical applications. In order to shed light on this interesting but complicated issue with the transport properties and crystallographic aspects, systematic discussion will be made with the review of our recent publications; (1) first principle derivation of the electronic structures, (2) crystallographic mapping of the selected solid solutions, (3) quantitative elucidation of the electron-lattice interaction, (4) spectroscopic detection of the local environment with Mossbauer and EXAFS, (5) synthetic optimization of the electrode composite, and (6) electrochemical evaluation of the reaction kinetics, particularly on M = Fe, Mn.

Spring-mass models have been widely accepted to explain the basic dynamics of human gait. Researchers found that the leg stiffness increased with gait speed to increase energy efficiency. However, the difference of leg stiffness change with gait speed between the young and the elderly has not been verified yet. In this study, we calculated the lower limb stiffness of the elderly using walking model with an axial spring. Vertical stiffness was defined as the ratio of the vertical force change to the vertical displacement change. Seven young and eight elderly subjects participated to the test. The subjects walked on a 12 meter long, 1 meter wide walkway at four different gait speeds, ranging from their self-selected speed to maximum speed randomly. Kinetic and kinematic data were collected using three force plates and motion capture cameras, respectively. The vertical stiffness of the two groups increased as a function of walking speed. Maximum walking speed of the elderly was slower than that of the young, yet the walking speed correlated well with the optimal stiffness that maximizes propulsion energy in both groups. The results may imply that human may use apparent limb stiffness to optimize energy based on spring-like leg mechanics.
Microbial cell-based UV spectrometric assay for the quantitative measurement of epoxide hydrolase activity was evaluated and optimized for the efficient screening of whole cell activity of novel epoxide hydrolase. Epoxide hydrolase activity was determined by measuring the increase of the oxidized product, benzaldehyde. The effects of the concentrations of phenyl-1,2-ethanediol, sodium metaperiodate and cells were optimized for epoxide hydrolase-catalyzed hydrolysis of styrene oxide. The relevant kinetic parameters of Km and $V_{max}$ for the hydrolysis of (R)-styrene oxide by Rhodotorula glutinis were determined from Lineweaver-Burk plot as 41.2 nmol/min$\cdot$mg dcw and 7.5 mM respectively, and coincided well with those from GC analysis.
Technology of vehicle industry has been developing and it is required a better vehicle performance than before. Therefore, the consumers are asking not only an economic efficiency, functionality, polished design, ride comfort and silence but also a driving stability. The ride comfort, silence and driving stability are influenced by the size of vehicle and various facilities. But the principal factor is a room noise and vibration sensed by a driver and passenger. Thus, the NVH of vehicle has been raised and used as a principal factor for evaluation of vehicle performance. The primary objective of this study is an optimized design of powertrain mounting system. To optimized design was applied MSC.Nastran optimization modules. Results of dynamic analysis for powertrain mounting system was investigated. By theses results, design variables was applied 12 dynamic spring constant. And the weighting factor according to translational displacement and rotational displacement applied 3 cases. The objective function was applied to minimize displacement of powertrain. And the design variable constraint was imposed dynamic spring constant ratio. The constraint of design variable for objective function was imposed bounce displacement for powertrain.

Ammonia accumulation is regarded as the limiting factor of the first priority in water qualities of aquatic culture systems. Nitrification efficiency and characteristics in seawater were evaluated using Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) process as a part of the recycling water treatment facilities for marine fish culture system. Ammonia removal efficiency regarded 99.7 to $83.7\%$ at the ammonia surface loading rates of 48 to $393 mg/m^2$ -day. RBC process was able to withstand to the fluctuation of influent ammonia concentrations and loading and produced the stable effluent. The mathematical model on the fixed-film biological reactor developed by Kornegay seemed to be suitable to RBC process kinetic evaluation for the recycling water treatment of the marine fish culture system. Area capacity constant (P) and half-velocity constant (Ks) in the model were 0.188g/m^2$-day and 1.25mg/l, respectively.
The objective of this study is to find the optimum design of a snubber using CFD analysis. Several dimensions such as snubber height(H), snubber diameter(D), buffer width and buffer angle are considered in this study. The present study shows that the CFD can be applied to study the pressure characteristics inside the snubber. The objective of the snubber design optimization are to minimize a pressure loss and the pulsation ratio. Numerical results such as particle track, pressure distribution and turbulent kinetic energy are used to analyze the critical area and pressure behavior inside the snubber. As a result, snubber model with H/D ratio of 3.23 and buffer angle of $40^{\circ}$ has a minimum pressure loss. On the other hand, snubber model with H/D ratio 4.41 and buffer angle $10^{\circ}$ has a minimum pulsation ratio.

When the manipulator collides with surroundings, there occurs an impulse. To reduce the impulse, the self motion should maintain the manipulator's position by the minimally effective mass. At this time, we can use the local joint torque minimization algorithm to resolve the redundancy. In this study, to reduce the impulse and damages by the impact between the manipulator and surroundings, new control algorithm for the minimization of the joint torque using the kinetic redundancy and the impact minimization is proposed. It adapts fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm to the conventional local joint torque minimization algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to a 3-DOF redundant planar manipulator. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works well.
The specificity of conjugation site for coating ligands was investigated using toluene-bovine serum albumin (BSA) conjugates in which BSA was conjugated at the position of o-, m-, and ${\rho}-toluic$ acid. Toluene-BSA conjugated at ${\rho}-position$ showed a binding activity of about 89-95%, whereas, those conjugated at o- and m-position of toluene exhibited a binding activity of 5 and 11%, respectively. On the basis of the above result, coating ligands with various proteins (OVA, BSA, KLH) were compared by conjugating with $\rho-toluic$ acid, and toluene-KLH was considered as the best coating ligand for this ELISA. Indirect competitive ELISA method was developed using anti-toluene antibody and $\rho-position$ conjugated toluene-KLH. The dose-response curve constructed after kinetic and optimization studies showed a 1${\times}$10-4 - 1${\times}$102 mM detectable response range with 0.1 ${\mu}M$ detectability. In specificity test of the antibody, the binding capabilities of aromatic compounds substituted with nitro-, alkyl-, chloro-, and hydroxyl group were larger rather than those of aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene and xylene) themselves. Also, tests with soil and water samples that had been spiked with toluene resulted in 102.7-113.7% recovery.
