  • A Linear Stepping Motor(LSM) can operate open loop control mode similarly to a rotary stepping motor. The linear motion without any mechanical linkage in the LSM results in several advantages for precise positioning actuators. However, to realize the more stable and higher speed control without hunting, it is necessary to derive an equivalent circuit to explain the steady-state and transisent characteristics in order to find an adequate control rule for high performance control of the LSM. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuit is obtained, based on the structure of the LSM, and then the electric equivalent circuit of the LSM is derived by solving equations for the magnetic equivalent circuit. The 1-step response characteristic of the LSM is analyzed by the ACSL with the voltage equations, the force equations, the force equations and the kinetic equation.

  • The potential feasibility of Maghnia clay as adsorbent to remove three cationic dyes (methylene blue (MB), neutral red (NR) and malachite green oxalates (MG)) from aqueous solution was investigated at various operating parameters such as contact time, pH, initial dye concentration and adsorbent dose. Optimum pH values for dyes adsorption were 6 for NR and 7 for MB and MG, respectively. Maximum adsorption of dyes, i.e. $\geq$ 90% has been achieved in aqueous solutions in 60 minutes. The adsorption of dyes followed the pseudo-second-order rate equation.

  • Experimental work was carried out to study the combustion kinetics of the Indian coal-char in the varying mixture of carbon dioxide-oxygen ($CO_2-O_2$). The coal sample was pulverized and sieved to less than 58 microns and charred using volatile furnace by passing the nitrogen gas. The experiments were carried out using the Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA-50) at CPRI, Bangalore, different proportions of ($CO_2-O_2$) gas was allowed in to the TGA-50 (80-20, 60-40, 40-60, 20-80) mole basis were used to study the combustion kinetics of coal Isothermally, kinetic parameters like Activation energy (E) and the pre-exponential factors (A) are calculated using the unification approach and modified Arrhenius equation.

  • This paper indicates that the use of Euler angles lacks in its consistency and exactness of analysis when it was applied to incorporate the rotational equation of motion for rotor systems by previous researcher. Kinetic energy and angular velocity are different from case to case depending on the way of choosing Euler angles and thus only the linear system has been investigated even though the rotor system has a very nonlinear behavior. A new methodology is applied by using both spherical coordinate and quaternion in the rotor rotation to overcome weaknesses of Euler angles and shows its superiority It is found through numerical examples that the use of quaternion will be a more useful and valid tool to derive the numerical model of the rotor system.

  • An effective method to calculate aerodynamic loads and aeroelastic responses of large wind turbine tower-blade coupled structures in yaw condition is proposed. By a case study on a 5 MW large wind turbine, the finite element model of the wind turbine tower-blade coupled structure is established to obtain the modal information. The harmonic superposition method and modified blade-element momentum theory are used to calculate aerodynamic loads in yaw condition, in which the wind shear, tower shadow, tower-blade modal and aerodynamic interactions, and rotational effects are fully taken into account. The mode superposition method is used to calculate kinetic equation of wind turbine tower-blade coupled structure in time domain. The induced velocity and dynamic loads are updated through iterative loop, and the aeroelastic responses of large wind turbine tower-blade coupled system are then obtained. For completeness, the yaw effect and aeroelastic effect on aerodynamic loads and wind-induced responses are discussed in detail based on the calculating results.

  • In general, the high temperature superconductors have two-dimensional anisotropic structures. It is important to investigate the dependence of the critical temperature on the dimensions of the electron's motion. The equation of state for electron gas is deduced which describes the electron's motion in superconductors using the kinetic theory of gas. And the critical temperatures of three, two, and one dimensional gases were calculated. According to these equations, restricting the dimension of the electron's motion induces the increase of the critical temperatures. This implies the possibility that the multi-critical temperature of some superconductors is caused by the change of the dimension related to the pathways of the electron.

  • Characteristics of sulfur-based autotrophic denitrification in a semi-continuous type reactor and the kinetic parameters were studied. Enriched autotrophic denitrifying culture was used for the reactor operation. Biomass growth on sulfur particles and in the liquid medium was monitored using the DAPI staining method. From the result of ion concentration changes and the biomass growth, maximum specific growth rate, ${\mu}_{max}$, and the half velocity constant, $K_M$, were estimated as $0.61\;d^{-1}$ and 3.66 mg/L, respectively. Growth yield coefficient, Y values for electron acceptor and donor were found as 0.49 gVSS/g N and 0.16 gVSS/g S. The biomass showed specific denitrification rate, ranging 0.86-1.13 gN/g VSS-d. A half-order equation was found to best simulate the denitrification process in the packed bed reactor operated in the semi-continuous mode.

  • Hazadous properties were evaluated for Alkyl nitrates such as hexyl nitrate, decyl nitrate, dodecyl nitrate and 2-methyl pentyl nitrate, 2-hexyl ethyl nitrate. The thermochemical properties such as heat of vaporization, boiling point, flash point and kinetic parameter for aliphatic nitrate were measured to determine the hazadous properties of these compounds. The boiling points and heat of vaporization increase as the increase of alkyl chain length in alkyl nitrates. Flash point is a linear function of boiling point as same as alkanes. The rate equation in isothermal decomposition are 1/2 order and compensation effect is found between logarithm of frequency factor the activation energy, then the decomposition preceeds with simlar reaction mechanism for each nitrate.

  • Product yields were determined for the reaction of styrene with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in CH$_2$Cl$_2$ with various substituted manganese porphyrin complexes as catalysts. In the presence of the electron withdrawing group and ortho-substituted manganese porphyrin complexes, reaction rate and epoxide selectivity are increased. Also reaction rate and epoxide selectivity are largely increased by the presence of imidazole which behaves as axial ligand of the manganese porphyrin complexes. By the kinetic study with Michealis-Menten equation, the factor significantly affected to catalytic ability is $K_m$ value. A large binding affinity consists with the low $K_m$. With theoretical analysis by EHMO calculation, the results are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • Penicillin amidohydrolase was partially purified from the fermented broth of Bacillus megaterium, and was immobilized on nylon fiber. The surface area of nylon fiber was increased by roughening it with fine sand and activated by acid treatment. The free amino groups on the nylon fiber exposed by such treatment were then utilized to immobilize the penicillin amidase. Enzymatic properties of penicillin amidohydrolase immobilized on the nylon fiber by covalent bonding and cross linking with glutaraldehyde were studied and compared with those of soluble enzyme. The optimal pH and temperature profile of immobilized enzyme showed only slightly broader peaks, and the values of kinetic constants, $K_m$, $K_{ia}$, and $K_{ip}$, of the immobilized enzyme are only slightly greater than those of the soluble enzyme. These results suggest that the mass transfer effect on the reaction rate for the penicillin amidase immobilized on nylon fiber is not so significant as the enzyme immobilized on some other support material like bentonite. The experimental results of batch reaction agreed well with the results of computer simulation for both the immobilized and soluble enzyme systems, confirming the validity of the rate equation derived which was based on the combined double inhibition by two reaction products.
