  • Space Science and Technology Laboratory at Kyung Hee University developed an 80cm Nasmyth telescope with the joint work of Space & Astronomy, Inc. It was set up at Muju county public astronomical observatory in Jeonlabuk-Do. Nasmyth focus system was selected for the telescope to use two focal points by a rotatable tertiary mirror. Focal ratios of the telescope are f10, f5 respectively. Support of the main mirror is made with Lasalle-system. This system uses 24-points in the back side of the mirror that are all resting on small counter-weights and side support is 10-points Boll link Flexible type with 2 Lasalle type. The mount is wheel & disk type Alt-Azimuth design using DC-servo motors. External high accuracy encoder has 47,600 sine-waves/rot. These encoders are used to make real-time corrections on all gearing errors.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce a topological space named an F-closed space. This space is properly contained between an S-closed space [17] and a quasi H-closed space [14], and between a nearly compact space [15] and a quasi H-closed space. We will investigate properties of F-closed spaces, and improve some results in [2], [7] and [17].

  • This paper presents the flight software of KoDSat (KSLV-l Demonstration Satellite) which performs demonstrating the KSLV-l (Korea Space Launch Vehicle-l)'s satellite launch capability. The KoDSat Flight Software executes in a single-processor, multi-function flight computer on the spacecraft, the OBC (On Board Computer). The flight software running on the single processor is responsible for all real-time processing associated with: processor startup and hardware initialization, task scheduling, RS422 handling function, command and data handling including uplink command and down-link telemetry, attitude determination and control, battery state of charge monitoring and control, thermal control processing.

  • Solar type II radio burst is regarded as a signature of coronal shock. However its association with coronal mass ejections (CMEs)-driven shock and/or flare blast waves remains controversial. On December 31 2007, SOHO/LASCO and STEREO/COR observed a CME that occurred on the east limb of the Sun. Meanwhile, two type II bursts were observed sequently by KASI/E-Callisto and the Culgoora radio observatory during the CME apparence time. In this study, we estimate kinematics of the two coronal shocks from dynamic spectrum of the multiple type II bursts and compare with the kinematics of the CME derived from the space observations. An origin of the multiple type II bursts is inspected and discussed briefly.

  • The NISS (Near-infrared Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history) onboard NEXTSat-1 is the near-infrared instrument optimized to the first small satellite of NEXTSat series. The capability of both imaging and low spectral resolution spectroscopy in the near-infrared range is a unique function of the NISS. The major scientific mission is to study the cosmic star formation history in local and distant universe. For those purposes, the main targets are nearby galaxies, galaxy clusters, star-forming regions and low background regions. The off-axis optical design of the NISS with two linear variable filters is optimized to have a wide field of view ($2deg.{\times}2deg.$) as well as the wide wavelength range from 0.95 to $3.8{\mu}m$. The mechanical structure is considered to endure the launching condition as well as the space environment. The dewar inside the telescope is designed to operate the infrared detector at 80K stage. From the thermal analysis, we confirmed that the telescope and the dewar can be cooled down to around 200K and 80K, respectively in order to reduce the large amount of thermal noise. The stray light analysis is shown that a light outside a field of view can be reduced below 1%. After the fabrications of the parts of engineering qualification model (EQM), the NSS EQM was successfully assembled and integrated into the satellite. To verify operations of the satellite in space, the space environment tests such as the vibration, shock and thermal-vacuum test were performed. Here, we report the results of the critical design review for the NISS.

  • The IGRINS is a near infrared high resolution spectrograph jointly developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas at Austin. We present design and fabrication of the optomechanical mount for the five mirrors, i.e., an input fold mirror, a slit mirror, a dichroic, and two camera fold mirrors. Based on the structure analysis and the thermal analysis of finite element methods, the optomechanical mount scheme satisfies the mechanical and the thermal design requirements given by the optical tolerance analysis. The performance of the fabricated mirror mounts has been verified through three IGRINS commissioning runs.

  • Deep Ecliptic Patrol of the Southern Sky (DEEP-South) observations have been conducted officially during the off-season for exoplanet search since October 2015. Most of the allocated time for DEEP-South is devoted to targeted photometry, Opposition Census (OC), of Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs) to increase the number of such objects with known physical properties. It is efficiently achieved by multiband, time series photometry. This Opposition Census (OC) mode target objects near their opposition, with km-sized PHAs in the early stage and goes down to sub-km objects. Continuous monitoring of the sky with KMTNet is optimized for spin characterization of various kinds of asteroids, including binaries, satellites, slow/fast- and non-principal axis-rotators, and hence is expected to facilitate the debiasing of previously reported lightcurve observations. We present the preliminary lightcurves of NEAs from year one of the DEEP-South with our long term plan.

  • 한국우주전파관측망(KVN: Korean VLBI Network)은 서울, 울산, 제주에 직경 21m 전파망원경 3기로 이루어진 우리나라 최초의 초장기선 전파간섭계(VLBI: Very Long Baseline Interferometry)이다.
