  • Real time accessiblity and agility in Ubiquitous-commerce is required under ubiquitous computing environment. The Research has been actively processed in e-commerce so as to improve the accuracy of recommendation. Existing Collaborative filtering (CF) can not reflect contents of the items and has the problem of the process of selection in the neighborhood user group and the problems of sparsity and scalability as well. Although a system has been practically used to improve these defects, it still does not reflect attributes of the item. In this paper, to solve this problem, We can use a implicit method which is used by customer's data and purchase history data. We propose a new clustering method of weighted preference for customer using k-means clustering and Bayesian network in order to improve the accuracy of recommendation. To verify improved performance of the proposed system, we make experiments with dataset collected in a cosmetic internet shopping mall.

  • The crucial problems of K-means clustering are deciding the number of clusters and initial centroids of clusters. Hence, the steps of K-means clustering are generally consisted of two-stage clustering procedure. The first stage is to run hierarchical clusters to obtain the number of clusters and cluster centroids and second stage is to run nonhierarchical K-means clustering using the results of first stage. Here we provide automated K-means clustering procedure to be useful to obtain initial centroids of clusters which can also be useful for large data sets, and provide software program implemented using R.

  • Fuzzy c-means (FCM) is a simple but efficient clustering algorithm using the concept of a fuzzy set that has been proved to be useful in many areas. There are, however, several well known problems with FCM, such as sensitivity to initialization, sensitivity to outliers, and limitation to convex clusters. In this paper, global fuzzy c-means (G-FCM) and kernel fuzzy c-means (K-FCM) are combined to form a non-linear variant of G-FCM, called kernel global fuzzy c-means (KG-FCM). G-FCM is a variant of FCM that uses an incremental seed selection method and is effective in alleviating sensitivity to initialization. There are several approaches to reduce the influence of noise and accommodate non-convex clusters, and K-FCM is one of them. K-FCM is used in this paper because it can easily be extended with different kernels. By combining G-FCM and K-FCM, KG-FCM can resolve the shortcomings mentioned above. The usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated by experiments using artificial and real world data sets.

  • The k-means algorithm is well known for its efficiency in clustering large data sets. However, working only on numeric values prohibits it from being used to cluster real world data containing categorical values. The k-modes algorithm is to extend the k-means paradigm to categorical domains. The algorithm requires a pre-setting or random selection of initial points (modes) of the clusters. This paper improved the problem of k-modes algorithm, using the Max-Min method that is a kind of methods to decide initial values in k-means algorithm. we introduce new similarity measures to deal with using the categorical data for clustering. We show that the mushroom data sets and soybean data sets tested with the proposed algorithm has shown a good performance for the two aspects(accuracy, run time).

  • Clustering is a method to classify the given data set with same property into several classes. To cluster data, many methods such as K-Means, Fuzzy C-Means(FCM), Mountain Method(MM), and etc, have been proposed and used. But the clustering results of conventional methods are sensitively influenced by initial values given for clustering in each method. Especially, FCM is very sensitive to noisy data, and cluster center distortion phenomenon is occurred because the method dose clustering through minimization of within-clusters variance. In this paper, we propose a clustering method which reduces cluster center distortion through merging the nearest data based on the data weight, and not being influenced by initial values. We show the effectiveness of the proposed through experimental results applied it to various types of data sets, and comparison of cluster centers with those of FCM.

  • Collaborative filtering technique is a major method of recommender systems and has been successfully implemented and serviced in real commercial online systems. However, this technique has several inherent drawbacks, such as data sparsity, cold-start, and scalability problem. Clustering-based collaborative filtering has been studied in order to handle scalability problem. This study suggests a collaborative filtering system which utilizes genetic algorithms to improve shortcomings of K-means algorithm, one of the widely used clustering techniques. Moreover, different from the previous studies that have targeted for optimized clustering results, the proposed method targets the optimization of performance of the collaborative filtering system using the clustering results, which practically can enhance the system performance.

  • As the size of data increases, it becomes important to identify properties by analyzing big data. In this paper, we propose a k-Means based efficient clustering technique, called MCSKMeans (Multi centroid set k-Means), using distributed parallel processing framework MapReduce. A problem with the k-Means algorithm is that the accuracy of clustering depends on initial centroids created randomly. To alleviate this problem, the MCSK-Means algorithm reduces the dependency of initial centroids using sets consisting of k centroids. In addition, we apply the agglomerative hierarchical clustering technique for creating k centroids from centroids in m centroid sets which are the results of the clustering phase. In this paper, we implemented our MCSK-Means based on the MapReduce framework for processing big data efficiently.

  • Texts in images have significant and detailed information about the scenes, and if we can automatically detect and recognize those texts in real-time, it can be used in various applications. In this paper, we propose a new text detection method that can find texts from the various camera-captured images and propose a text segmentation method from the detected text regions. The detection method proposes color variance as a detection feature in RGB color space, and the segmentation method suggests an improved K-means color clustering in RGB color space. We have tested the proposed methods using various kinds of document style and natural scene images captured by digital cameras and mobile-phone camera, and we also tested the method with a portion of ICDAR[1] contest images.

  • Understanding load patterns and customer classification is a basic step in analyzing the behavior of electricity consumers. To achieve that, there have been many researches about clustering customers' daily load data. Nowadays, the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and big-data technologies make it easier to study customers' load data. In this paper, we study load clustering from the view point of yearly and daily load pattern. We compare four clustering methods; K-means clustering, hierarchical clustering (average & Ward's method) and DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise). We also discuss the relationship between clustering results and Korean Standard Industrial Classification that is one of possible labels for customers' load data. We find that hierarchical clustering with Ward's method is suitable for clustering load data and KSIC can be well characterized by daily load pattern, but not quite well by yearly load pattern.

  • This study is concerned with suggesting a new clustering algorithm to evaluate the value of papers which were supported by research grants by Korea Research Fund (KRF). The algorithm is based on an extended version of a conventional PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) mechanism. In other words, the proposed algorithm is based on integration of k-means algorithm and simulated annealing mechanism, named KASA-PSO. To evaluate the robustness of KASA-PSO, its clustering results are evaluated by research grants experts working at KRF. Empirical results revealed that the proposed KASA-PSO clustering method shows improved results than conventional clustering method.
