  • In terms of junior high school girls' growth patterns during early adolescence, unlike childhood when relatively balanced growth patterns are found and high school years in which the normal adult body type is almost reached, junior high school girls display imbalanced and rapid growth. In fact, diverse size changes by body part occur with a significant difference among individuals. Therefore, it has been difficult for junior high school students to select their exact size when buying a school uniform. This study attempted to develop winter blouse and skirt patterns reflecting the latest comfortable and active school uniform trends, using middle school girl avatars of various body shapes. Skirt and blouse pattern-drawing methods and margins differed. Based on such results, research prototypes were prepared. Then, virtual wear prospective drawings, clothing pressure, and appearance were assessed by body shape. Skirts were assessed with 22 factors while blouses were analyzed with 25 factors. Then, correlations between skirts and blouses were analyzed. According to the analysis, the reason why the dart & pleats position and margin were rated low was confirmed. In a virtual wear assessment on skirt patterns by body shape, a significant difference was found in all categories except for position of the hip circumference, margin of the hips, width of the skirt, and appropriateness of waist line position. The virtual wear assessment on the blouse patterns by body shape also revealed a significant difference in all categories but fit and shape pf the back part. In blouses, a significant difference was observed around shoulders and waist in type 1 and around the belly in type 2. On the contrary, for skirts, a significant difference was found around the hips and waists in type 1 and type 2. Therefore, these factors should be considered in making blouses and skirts. The above results suggested that skirt and blouse patterns should vary by body shape. It is anticipated that there should be further studies comparing brand-name school uniforms for high school girls and school uniforms by body shape.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and classify breast shape of women aged 11~15 using 3D body scan data. In this study, 250 women's body scans were selected from the 6th Size Korea dataset, and 30 items from each of the scan were measured using RapidForm XOR 3 program. The principal component analysis and cluster analysis were conducted using statistical program SPSS 17.0. The five principal components were identified; breast drooping and breast capacity, size from chest to under bust area, breast protrusion, breast height, and under breast angle & outer distance of breast. As the results of cluster analysis, woman's breast types were classified into four types. The breast type 1 was protrusion type (25.1%) which is considered as the breast maturity stage. The breast type 2 had the most drooped breast covering a large area (20.2%). The breast type 3 had the least prominent breast with a highest nipple point, which was considered as the early breast development stage (38.9%). The breast type 4 had the obesity of the chest and breast circumferences with the slightly prominent and the least drooped breast (15.8%). This study can provide fundamental information to develop sizing system and brassiere pattern for junior girls.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate junior high school students' and their parents' interests, preferences, and positive perceptions regarding Korean traditional food. This study may be used to provide the basic information for establishing an educational program about Korean traditional food. The self-administered questionnaires for students and their parents were used to examine the general characteristics of participants, perceptions of Korean traditional food, and experiences with traditional food at home. The data was analyzed by t-test and Chi-square test. The results are as follows. First, most students had a lower interest, preference, and positive perception of Korean traditional food than their parents. Second, the perception of traditional food among students was influenced by their experience with traditional food at home and the perceptions of their parents. Therefore, in order to keep and develop the Korean traditional food culture, an educational program for students as well as their parents to teach the advantages and the values of Korean traditional food, is needed. An educational program would help students have a more positive perception of Korean traditional food. In addition, this may encourage parents to serve more traditional foods at home and would increase the interest in eating and cooking Korean food. Thus, establishing an educational program could be a successful method for maintaining the Korean traditional food heritage for future generations.

  • We developed the shoes which is specially designed to decrease the leg's fatness during walking and to improve the body figure. The analysis of the gait cycle and the shoes gave changes at the swing phase. We examined the results to 30 girl students of Yeong Dong Junior College for 5 weeks from 27, October to 29, Nobember in 1996, and the results were also obtained in decrease of their thigh's size in circumference. The results of the analysis are as followings; 1) After experiment circumference of the right thigh was decreased 0.04cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 1.04 cm in control group(p<0.01). 2) After experiment circumference of the left thigh was decreased 0.27 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 1.17cm in control group(p<0.01). 3) After experiment circumference of the right calf of the leg decreased 0.09 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 0.54 cm in control group(p<0.01). 4) After experiment circumference of the left calf of the leg decreased 0.21 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 0.47 cm in control group. 5) After experiment body weight were not changed significantly in both group. In these results, if the people want to exercise the analysis of fat in the thigh, put on the shoes which improves the body figure and do daily work, and it will be naturally decreased the fat in thigh and they will maintain the beauty lines of the legs. There weren't any changes in the body weight while the fat of thigh in circumsference was analysed and decreased. It means that because the weight of the fat is very light, there weren't any changes in body weight.

  • The purpose of this study was to introduce rotation-plasty procedure and prosthetic ambulation training. The recent development of chemotherapy and diagnostic facility have permitted the orthopaedic surgeons to try limb saving procedures rather than amputations for the treatment of the malignant bone tumors. If the tumors around the knee joint were treated by mid-thigh amputation or hip disarticulation, it would impose the client with a great handicap for rehabilitation. Rotation-plasty procedure was first done by Borggreve, in 1930 for the congenital short femur. Recently this procedure was used a malignant bone tumor at the distal femur by Kotz and Salzer in 1982. In spite of its cosmetic problem of the distal stump, this procedure has the great functional advantage of converting the above-knee amputation to the below-knee amputation. The inverted foot was also good to control the prosthesis as a below-knee stump and heel functioned as a patella to support the body weight. This 15 years old girl case was had rotation-plasty due to osteosarcoma of the distal femur with 3rd postoperative chemotherapy, and admitted to Yonsei rehabilitation hospital for prosthetic ambulation training. Then, the case had excellent functional results of prosthetic ambulation training with rotaion-plasty after 3 months.

  • 4-probe resistivity measurement technique was used to study kinetics of hydrogen absorption-desorption on Pd film($520{\AA}$ thick) at room temperature upto 1 bar. Kinetics data are fitted well to 1st order kinetics equation in ${\alpha}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phases. In ${\alpha}+{\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase, absorption kinetics was very complicated, but it could be explained partially with nucleation and growth process. Ln(dR/dt) vs. time plot gives rate constant k value(R is resistance of sample, t is time). k value for absorption is $4^{-6}{\times}10^{-4}/sec$ in ${\alpha}$ phase. k is increasing upto $4^{\times}10^{-2}/sec$ as hydrogen pressure increasing in ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase. k is proportional to ln(Pop/Peq), where Peq is equilibrium plateau pressure and Pop is the opposing pressure. In contrast to bulk sample k value was decreasing with increasing number of A-D cycling in ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase absorption.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether uniform reforming behavior in high school girls is related to body image distortion, and to obtain objective data to help in guiding students in the wearing of uniforms at school. 661 freshmen and junior girls at six high schools in Kwangju city responded to questionnaires. The data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Pearson’s product-moment correlations using the SPSS 12.0 program. According to their body satisfaction level, three groups (haggard distortion, normal, overweight distortion) were identified. The data showed that a few high school girls were unable to recognize their body types correctly. It also indicated that school uniform reforming behaviors in high school girls were not related to their body image or body satisfaction level. So, it seems that students need guidance in the building up of an objective body image and wearing uniforms to fit their body types.

  • This treatise deals with teen-agers' tendencies in selecting clothes, upon the recent liberalization measures of dress restriction. in regard to girl students' uniforms inmiddle and high schools, effective 1983. Results of my poll of 430 inquirees on the subject is outlined as follows; The surveyees have a preference for wearing box-style upper garments with a round-neck line and ribbon/tie collar. They also prefer to wear shirt cuffs mainly in set-in sleeve style. A straight skirt silhouetting the body line is anticipated to be longer in length than the knee line by 2 or 3 cm's. A dressy or sporty look would be most welcome, too. The ensemble of blue jeans and T-shirt blouse would be usual wear during school attendance. The reason why they like to choose trousers is considered to stem from the unisex look in fashion rather economical and practical purposes. Clothes material tends to be natural fabrics, single-colored and non-patterned. Color needs to be in a subdued mood, tuned with the same color and of neutral tint. In styling, emphasis is to be placed on femininity. In particular, the middle school girls wish to intensify 'Har-mony' in style while the high school misses are concerned with 'Individuality.'

The subjects were taken from by 199 students in 3 classes from 1st grade in H girl's junior high school as the study group, and 2 classes from 1st grade in S girl's junior high school as control group. During the survey period(September 21, 1998 to September 30, 1998), 6 times in terms of one-hour class for sex education were taught to the study group. A pre-test was executed on September 19, 1998 and the post-test on September 30. The findings were as follows. 1. According to the research, 20.1% of the subjects have experienced sex education from parents and 89.9% from teacher. They have mostly obtained the sex-related information from teachers(59.8%), following movie, radio, TV, or video tape(40.7%), friends(35.2%), reading materials such as books, cartoons, news papers and magazines(31.7%), parents(15.6%), siblings(7.0%), PC(1.5%) and telephone service(1.5%). 2. 27.1% of the subjects reported that they had sex-related worry concerning from friendship with the opposite sex, following physiological phenomenon(31.5%), sex violence(11.1%), physical characteristics(7.4%), VD and contraception(5.6%), sexual impulse(5.6%), pregnancy and delivery(5.5%), and sexual behaviour(3.7%). The research showed that the adolescents usually solved their problems through the consultation with theifriends(44.4%). However, 16.7% of the subjects were turned out not to request any solution. The other minor routes to settle their problems were written materials such as books, magazines(13.0%), parents(13.0%), movie, radio, TV, or video tape(5.5%), acquainted female elders(3.7%) and teachers(3.7%). 3. The most interesting part regarding sex was the friendship with the opposite sex(61.8%), following adolescent's emotion(55.8%), physiological differences between two genders(52.8%), AIDS(48.7%), VD(46.7%), pregnancy(45.2%), contraception(45.2%), abortion(41.7%), intercourse(41.7%), masturbation(41.2%), sex violence(41.2%) and genital structure and secondary sexual characteristics(28.6%). 4. In regard to characteristics of the subjects influencing sex-related knowledge, the higher educational career of mother, living with at least either parent and the experience of sex education by teachers were statistically significant factors(p〈0.05). 5. In regard to characteristics of the subjects influencing attitudes toward sex, the experience of sex education by parents or teachers was a statistically significant factor(p〈0.05). 6. The analysis of knowledge score comparing results before and after sex education showed that control group's score decreased from 12.5 to 12.44 while the study group's score increased from 12.33 to 21.31, which was statistically significant(p〈0.001). 7. The analysis of the attitude scores before and after sex education showed that the control group's score slightly increased from 55.57 to 56.36, while the study group's score increased from 54.79 to 61.95, which was statistically significant(p〈0.001). 8. The level of sex-related concerns of the study group after sex education marked both the increase in some items and the decrease in others. 9. Most instructive session among the sex education was the third “to be a good friend to the opposite sex”(27.0%).
