Neural networks are used in the framework of sensorbased tracking control of robot manipulators. They learn by practice movements the relationship between PSD (an analog Position Sensitive Detector) sensor readings for target positions and the joint commands to reach them. Using this configuration, the system can track or follow a moving or stationary object in real time. Furthermore, an efficient neural network architecture has been developed for real time learning. This network uses multiple sets of simple backpropagation networks one of which is selected according to which division (corresponding to a cluster of the self-organizing feature map) in data space the current input data belongs to. This lends itself to a very training and processing implementation required for real time control.
Recently, the increase in the elderly population due to an aging society has led to a relative increase in senile diseases such as vascular dementia or Alzheimer's disease, and the social burden for rehabilitation has increased. In addition, studies have been conducted for the risk assessment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. The purpose of this study is to suggest a system that can be used to help with dementia prevention training by tracking the movement of motion and virtual reality contents for the risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders of the elderly. We propose a training method for preventing dementia through musculoskeletal motion analysis algorithm and virtual reality content. Through motion recognition algorithm based on motion region design, we will track and analyze the moving radius of the target joint. The purpose of this study is to calculate and evaluate scores based on the time to accomplish the goals on virtual reality contents for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and the support of dementia prevention training, and the degree of difficulty, and to analyze the correlation between the results of performing K-MMSE and VR contents.

This paper deals with the controller for a stable walking of a humanoid robot using genetic algorithm. A humanoid robot has instability during walking because it isn't fixed on the ground, and its nonlinearities of the joints increase its instability. If controller isn't robust, the robot may fall down at the ground during walking because of its nonlinearities. To solve this problem, robust controller is required to reduce the effect of nonlinearities and to gain the good tracking performance. In this paper, motion controller that is based on fuzzy-sliding mode controller is proposed. This controller can remove the effect of the saturation by limitation of the input voltage. It also includes compensator for reducing the effect of the nonlinearity by backlash and PI controller improving the tracking performance. In here, genetic algorithm is used for searching the optimal gains of the controller. From the given controller, a humanoid robot can moved more preciously. All the processes are investigated through simulations and are verified experimentally in a real joint system for a humanoid robot.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm that the cross-country ski sprint course in PyeongChang, where the 2018 Winter Olympics course was to utilize wearable devices equipped with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS) and heart rates sensor. Method: For the data collection, two national level cross-country (XC) skiers performed classic technique on the entire sprint course. We analyzed cycle characteristics, range of motion on double poling (DP) technique, average velocity, and displacement of 3 points according to the terrain. Results: The absolute cycle time gradually decreased during starting, middle and finish sections. While the length of the DP increased and the heart rates tended to increase for men skier. In addition, the results indicated that range of motion of knee joint during starting and finish section decreased more than middle section. The errors of latitude and longitude data collected through GPS were within 3 m from 3 points. Conclusion: Through the first case study in Korea, which analyzed the location and condition of XC skiers in the entire sprint course in real time, confirmed that feedback was available in the field using various wearable sensors.
A method to classify a golf swing motion into 7 sections using a Kinect sensor and a fuzzy system is proposed. The inputs to the fuzzy logic are the positions of golf club and its head, which are extracted from the information of golfer's joint position and color information obtained by a Kinect sensor. The proposed method consists of three modules: one for extracting the joint's information, another for detecting and tracking of a golf club, and the other for classifying golf swing motions. The first module extracts the hand's position among the joint information provided by a Kinect sensor. The second module detects the golf club as well as its head with the Hough line transform based on the hand's coordinate. Using a fuzzy logic as a classification engine reduces recognition errors and, consequently, improves the performance of robust classification. From the experiments of real-time video clips, the proposed method shows the reliability of classification by 85.2%.
On Aug. 4, 2022, at 23:08:48 (UTC), the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), also known as Danuri, was launched using a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Currently, KPLO is successfully conducting its science mission around the Moon. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)'s Deep Space Network (DSN) was utilized for the successful flight operation of KPLO. A great deal of joint effort was made between the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and NASA DSN team since the beginning of KPLO ground system design for the success of the mission. The efficient utilization and management of NASA DSN in deep space exploration are critical not only for the spacecraft's telemetry and command but also for tracking the flight dynamics (FD) operation. In this work, the top-level DSN interface architecture, detailed workflows, DSN support levels, and practical lessons learned from the joint team's efforts are presented for KPLO's successful FD operation. Due to the significant joint team's efforts, KPLO is currently performing its mission smoothly in the lunar mission orbit. Through KPLO cooperative operation experience with DSN, a more reliable and efficient partnership is expected not only for Korea's own deep space exploration mission but also for the KARI-NASA DSN joint support on other deep space missions in the future.

The Coronavirus or COVID-19 is contagiousness virus that infected almost every single part of the world. This pandemic forced a major country did lockdown and stay at a home policy to reduce virus spread and the number of victims. Interactions between humans and robots form a popular subject of research worldwide. In medical robotics, the primary challenge is to implement natural interactions between robots and human users. Human communication consists of dynamic processes that involve joint attention and attracting each other. Coordinated care involves sharing among agents of behaviours, events, interests, and contexts in the world from time to time. The robotics arm is an expensive and complicated system because robot simulators are widely used instead of for rehabilitation purposes in medicine. Interaction in natural ways is necessary for disabled persons to work with the robot simulator. This article proposes a low-cost rehabilitation system by building an arm gesture tracking system based on a depth camera that can capture and interpret human gestures and use them as interactive commands for a robot simulator to perform specific tasks on the 3D block. The results show that the proposed system can help patients control the rotation and movement of the 3D arm using their hands. The pilot testing with healthy subjects yielded encouraging results. They could synchronize their actions with a 3D robotic arm to perform several repetitive tasks and exerting 19920 J of energy (kg.m2.S-2). The average of consumed energy mentioned before is in medium scale. Therefore, we relate this energy with rehabilitation performance as an initial stage and can be improved further with extra repetitive exercise to speed up the recovery process.

This study proposed a new method to design a robot manipulator control system capable of tracking the trajectories of joint angles in a reasonable accuracy to cover with actual situation of varying payload, uncertain parameters, and time delay. The direct adaptive model following control method has been used to improve existing industrial robot manipulator control system design. The proposed robot manipulator controller is operated by adjusting its gains based on the response of the manipulator in such a way that the manipulator closely matches the reference model trajectories predefined by the designer. The manipulator control system studied has two loops: they are an inner loop on adaptive model following controller to compensate nonlinearity in the manipulator dynamic equation and to decouple the coupling terms and an outer loop of state feedback controller with integral action to guarantee the stability of the adaptive scheme. This adaptation algorithm is based on the hyperstability approach with an improved Lyapunov function. The coupling among joints and the nonlinearity in the dynamic equation are explicitly considered. The designed manipulator controller shows good tracking performance in various cases, load variation, parameter uncertainties. and time delay. Since the proposed adaptive control method requires only a small number of parameters to be estimated, the controller has a relatively simple structure compared to the other adaptive manipulator controllers. Therefore, the method used is expected to be well suited for a high performance robot controller under practical operation environments.

In the control of the robot system using the variable structure control(VSC) method, up to these days the advantage of the VSC method has not been applied effectively because the parameters are selected arbitrarily by the existence condition of sliding mode without a precise analysis about the VSC parameters. This paper reveals the relation between dynamic constraints and the VSC parameters of robot system, and analyzes the effect on the trajectory of the joint angle and the hand when the analytical result of the relation is applied to the robot system control. The result of the analysis in this paper is applied effectively to the path tracking control and the trajectory planning using the VSC method.

An adaptive output feedback controller is designed for tracking control of an n-link robot manipulator with unknown load. High-gain obwserver that is used to estimate joint velocities is designed to avoide the restriction of the allowable variation range of unknown parmeters as well as improve the state estimation error. We saturate the control inut outside a domain of interest and use an adaptive law with a parameter projection feature to guarantee boundedness of all the trajectories in the closed-loop system. Simulation resutls on a 2-link manipulator illustrate that when the speed of the high-gain observer is sufficiently high, the proposed controller recovers the performance under state feedback control.
