  • The objective of this study is to develope an effectiveness measurement technique for U-shaped JIT production line by computer simulation. A small and medium sized automobile brake master cylinder manufacturing plant is studied for productivity improvement The production line is analysed and improved by applying Low Cost Automation, special jigs and fixtures, and facilities layout changes. An experimental simulation model is built using SIMAN(SIMulation ANalysis) simulation software for the production system analysis.

  • Alignment of the main plates during the tack welding is essential to block assembly since most of the curved blocks and outfitting parts are assembled on the jigs and fixtures. Tact welding of main plates is the initial process of the curved hull block assembly. Due to the heavy weight of the main plates it is difficult to locate the plate on the accurate position of the jig and fixtures before welding. The conventional masonry process requires much time and manual work in order to achieve the accurate alignment. This labour-intensive process results in relatively high errors and correction works. Due to their larger dimensions and heavier weights, these hull blocks are not ergonomically desirable and, therefore, various mechanical devices such as hydraulic balancers or hydraulic jigs are used for the plate alignment. In this study, the position-sensing scheme implemented by sensors is presented in order to align the main plates on the accurate position during the hull block assembly. Integrating the Infrared photo sensors and micro processor unit, a small scaled prototype of the position-sensing module is developed to determine the alignment of main plates.

  • Hyundai Rotem Company has designed and manufactured the next generation high speed EMU bodyshell (M3-car). Korean Railway Safety Law specifies the loads vehicle bodies shall be capable of withstanding, identifies what material data shall be used and presents the principles to be used for design verification by analysis. Therefore, in order to fulfill the structural requirements, Hyundai Rotem Company has carried out Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and static load test to verify whether the carbody structure has enough strength to withstand the loads specified by Korean Railway Safety Law. This research contains the results obtained by the FE analysis and static load test. The FE analysis is carried out using NX I-DEAS 6.1 and specially designed test jigs and equipment are used for the load tests.

  • The spring constant of a micro coil spring was measured by uniaxial tensile test. The inner diameter of it is $35{\mu}m$ and the pitch size is about $23{\mu}m$. A suing constant measurement system was developed. It consists of control units, load cell units, linear stages and several specially designed jigs and fixtures. Load and displacement are measured using a commercial load cell of 1000g capacity and a magnetic scale of $0.5{\mu}m$ resolution. In this study, a method to measure the spring constant of micro coil spring is presented and the relationship between misalignment of specimen and measurement error is discussed.

배전용 폴리머 라인 포스트 애자 금형의 불량과 대책에 관한 연구 (A study on the defects of molds for distribution polymer line post insulators and problem-solving measures)

  • In this study, an injection mold is made to produce polymer line post insulators. FRP (fiber reinforced plastics) is covered by silicone housing. In injection molding process, chances for offcenter are 60 percent. Given the structure of the product, offcenter occurs owing to the imbalances in positions of gates and improper -designs of cores and jigs. This study focuses on mold modifications and improvements.

  • In this study, the inclined endmilling process with a 3-axis machining center using inalined jigs is introduced for the purpose of reducing overall Dies/Molds machining time and improving the machining accuracies. In order to analyse the cutting mechanism of a given endmill more accurateky, the unification of the cutting mechanism model of 3-different-kind endmills is examined by using the mose radius as a parameter. By adding radial runouts as a parameter which influences on surface roughness, the superposition method which defines the effective cusp heigh superposing the cutter mark height and the conventional cusp height is modified. And 3-D surface topography predicted in this paper looks like the surface normally observed in practice. Through machining experiments, the adequacy of the superposition algorithm was confirmed.

  • The concept of jigs and fixtures makes it possible to build fixtures that can be dismantled at project completion. Since this concept is modular, it is not limited to any particular unit shapes or sizes. Various standards assure that each component assemble rapidly, to get precision and accuracy. Best suited for prototype and low volume production, as well as, start-up or zero-runs, it can also substitute for damaged dedicated fixtures to minimize down-time. It need to do DB for each part by Pro/Engineer and to assemble before manufacturing. In the future will assemble each of clamping and position parts by automation.

  • This paper describes an intelligent filler wire feeding device which can control 3- dimensional seam tracking and the filler wire speed by measuring the gap position and the joint gap width in laser welding. By means of visual sensor controlled filling the missing material into the joint gap and 3 dimensional seam tracking, lineup errors from manufacturing tolerances and the repeatability of lineup jigs and weld robot can be balanced and at an even seam quality which avoids weld defects. In this paper, we assessed weld quality in 2mm sheets of A16061 which had various gap width by using the intelligent filler wire feeding device.

  • On this study, technical aspects were reviewed to drill a series of micro holes (${\phi}$0.10) over 200 within a few micron tolerance in diameter and position on the stainless steel material. Dedicated tools & jigs were designed and manufactured and optimum cutting conditions were found. On this micro hole drilling process, guide drill and step feeding were applied to help chip discharge, prevent drill breakage and finally improve the accuracy of positioning and roundness. The processing results indicated that most holes are distributed within a few micron tolerance in diameter and position intervals.

실험모드해석에 의한 다점지지된 연속원통셸의 진동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vibrational Characteristics of the Continuous Circular Cylindrical Shell with the Multiple Supports Using the Experimental Modal Analysis)

  • An experimental modal analysis is the process to identify structure's dynamic characteristics such as resonant frequencies, damping values and mode shapes. An experimental model was made of stainless steel in the shape of a circular cylindrical shell and installed on the test bed with jigs. For investigating vibrational characteristics of the continuous circular cylindrical shell with intermediate supports, modal testing is performed by using impact hammer, accelerometer and 8-channel FFT analyzer. The frequency response function(FRF) measurements are also made on the experimental model within the frequency range from 0 to 4kHz. Modal parameters are identified from resonant peaks in the FRF's and animated deformation patterns associated with each of the resonances are shown on a computer screen. The experimental results are compared with analytical and FEA results.
