In this study, the effect of hole geometry of the cooling system on the flow and temperature field was numerically calculated. The finite volume method was employed to discretize the governing equation based on the non-orthogonal coordinate with non-staggered variable arrangement. The standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model was used and also the predicted results were compared with the experimental data to validate numerical modeling. The predicted results showed good agreement in all cases. To analyze the effect of the discharge coefficient for slots of different length to width, the inlet chamfering and radiusing holes were considered. The discharge coefficient was increased with increment of the chamfering ratio, radiusing ratio and slot length to width and also the effect of radiusing showed better result than chamfering in all cases. In order to analyze the difference between the predicted results with plenum region and without plenum region, the velocity profiles of jet exit region for a various flow conditions were calculated. The normal velocity components of jet exit showed big difference for the low slot length to width and high blowing rate cases. To analyze the flow phenomena injected from a row of inclined holes in a real turbine blade, three dimensional flow and temperature distribution of the region including plenum, hole and cross stream with flow conditions were numerically calculated. The results have shown three-dimensional flow characteristics, such as the development of counter rotating vortices, jetting effect and low momentum region within the hole in addition to counter rotating vortex structure in the cross stream.

The liquid column and spray trajectory have been experimentally studied in liquid jets injected into subsonic crossflow. With water as fuel injection velocity, injection angle were varied to provide of jet operation conditions. The Pulsed Shadowgraph Photography and Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence technique was used to determine the injection characteristics in a subsonic crossflow of air. And the mainly objectives of this research was to get a empirical formula of liquid column and spray region trajectory with forward and reversed injection of air stream. As the result, This research has been shown that each trajectories were spatially dependent on air-stream velocity, fuel injection velocity, various injection angle, and normalized injector exit diameter. Furthermore, the empirical formula of liquid column trajectories has been some different of drag coefficient results between forward and reversed angled injection.

Flow structure and mixing characteristics in a micro combustor with a multi-hole baffle were numerically studied using the Reynolds stress model. The multi-hole baffle has geometrical features to produce multiple three-dimensional vortices inside combustion chamber. When the thickness of the baffle's geometrical factors changes, variations of vortical structures occur variously. Among these vortices, the vortex generated from the fuel stream exerts a critical influence on the mixing enhancement. The three-dimensional vortical structure, in its development state, was strongly dependent on the baffle thickness. In particular, as the baffle thickness decreases to values less than the diameter of the fuel hole, the jet stream in baffle holes changes from the parabolic to saddleback profile type. The sizes of recirculation zones inside combustion chamber and the mixing state were closely affected by the structure of the jet streams.
This study conducted synoptic and mesoscale analyses to understand the cause of Japan Tsukuba tornado development, which occurred at 0340 UTC 6 May 2012. Prior to the tornado occurrence, there was a circular jet stream over Japan, and the surface was moist due to overnight precipitation. The circular jet stream brought cold and dry air to the upper-level atmosphere which let strong solar radiation heat the ground with clearing of sky cover. A tornadic supercell developed in the area of potentially unstable atmosphere. Sounding data at Tateno showed a capping inversion at 900 hPa at 0000 UTC 6 May. Strong insolation in early morning hours and removal of the inversion instigated vigorous updraft with rotation due to vertical shear in the upper-level atmosphere. This caused multiple tornadoes to occur from 0220 to 0340 UTC 6 May 2012. When comparing Tateno's climatological temperature and dew-point temperature profile on the day of event, the mid-level atmosphere was moister than typical sounding in the region. This study showed that tornado development in Tsukuba was caused by a combination of (a) topography and potential vorticity anomaly, which increased vorticity over the Kanto Plain; (b) vertical shear, which produced horizontal vortex line; and c) thermal instability, which triggered supercell and tilted the vortex line in the vertical.

The present study investigated local heat transfer characteristics around a film cooling hole with variations of free stream turbulence intensity The film cooling jet is injected through a single hole inclined at $30^{\cire}$ to the surface and laterally at $45^{\cire}$ for the blowing rates of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. Turbulence generating grids are used at upstream of the film cooling hole to change the turbulence intensity of free stream. Free stream turbulence intensity without grids is 0.5%. Two different turbulence generating grid is installed at different at locations upstream of the film cooling hole so that turbulence intensity of free stream varies from 3% to 10%. The naphthalene sublimation technique has been employed to determine local heat/ mass transfer coefficients. With low free stream turbulence intensity, heat/mass transfer augmented area by coolant or free stream is distinguished evidently. However, when free stream turbulence intensity is high, heat transfer is enhanced in all region and heat transfer enhanced regions are not clearly divided due to vigorous mixing of coolant and free stream. The peak values of heat/mass coefficients are decreased and the distributions of heat/mass transfer coefficients are more uniform with high turbulence intensity. The effect of turbulence intensity on heat transfer characteristics is more evident as blowing rate is higher.
Spray and combustion characteristics of a dump-type ram-combustor equipped with a V-gutter flame holder were experimentally investigated. Spray penetrations with a change in airstream velocity, air stream temperature, and dynamic pressure ratio were measured to clarify the spray characteristics of a liquid jet injected into the subsonic vitiated airstream, which maintains a highly uniform velocity and temperature. An empirical equation was modified from Inamura's equation to compensate for experimental conditions. In the case of insufficient penetration, the flame in the ram-combustor was unstable, and vice versus in the case of sufficient penetration. When the flame holder was not equipped, the temperature at the center of the ram-combustor had a tendency to decrease due to the low penetration and insufficient mixing. Therefore, the temperature distribution was slanted to the low wall of the ram-combustor. These trends gradually disappeared as the length of the combustor became longer and the flame holder was equipped. Combustion efficiency increased when the length of the combustor was long and the flame holder was equipped. Especially, the effect of the flame holder was more dominant than that of the combustor length in light of combustion efficiency.

Double coaxial are jets(annular and coaxial air jets) between which propane gas is fed was selected to study the structure of diffusion flames in turbulent shear flow. Schlieren and direct photographs are taken to visualize the flame structure. Mean and fluctuating temperatures and ion currents were measured to investigate the macroscopic and the instantaneous flame structure. The objective of this study is to understand the interaction between combustion and mixing process especially in the transition region of turbulent shear flow. The investigation reported in this paper focuses on the macroscopic and the instantaneous structures of three flames obtained. The increased mixing effect resulting from increase of Reynolds number of central air jet makes the flame bluish and short. When the velocity of surrounding air stream is higher than that of central air jet, the instantaneous flame structure is composed of coherent structure. It is considered that the flame structure of transitional region of mixing layer depends on the structure of mixing layer of non-reacting conditions.
This study is just to be carried out to grasp the efficiency of jet stream excavating for the ground. Changing the dynamic pressure, nozzle diameter, distance off the ground, we measured the impulse, the excavated depth, the excavated width. According as each dynamic pressure increases from 100 to $500gf/cm^2$, the impulse of the jet stream increases from 43 to 114gf, from 52 to 227gf, from 114 to 506gf, from 137 to 768gf, in 4, 6, 8, 10mm nozzles respectively, but it makes no difference in the value of distance within 50cm off ground. The excavated depth increases at the invariable rate in accordance with nozzle diameter, dynamic pressure, nozzle distance. We obtain the equations relevant to the ground I, II as follows: $$L_I=[0.01(H/r-100) -0.43\cdot\iota+11.78]{\cdot}D/4$$$$L_{II}=[0.03(H/r-100) -0.34\cdot\iota+6.39]{\cdot}D/4$$ where, $L_I,\;L_{II}$ are respectively the excavated depths of the ground I, II, cm; H is the dynamic pressure, $gf/cm^2\;:\;\iota$ is the distance off the ground, cm; D is Nozzle diameter, mm; r is the specific weight, $1gf/cm^2$.

The dedusting characteristics of pulse air jet type dedusting system which is widely applied in the industries were identified by utilizing the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the dedusting performance in modified shape of dedusting unit was compared in this study. The review on the dedusting air volume, air stream distribution and inflow velocity distribution on each shape of dedusting part showed that the case of installing the nozzle on the blow tube (Case-3) and the case of installing the double intaking tube to the venturi (Case-4 and Case-5) were more excellent than the structure (Case-1) which is widely applied in the field in its amplification effect on the air volume and extension of stream width. The specification of venturi was decided to apply the selected Case-5 for the option of the commercial back filter. It is considered that the dedusting air volume will be maintained in maximum in the case of 50 mm and 90 mm for the diameter of internal and external intaking pipe respectively.

Pressure Sensitive Paint(PSP) means a reacting paint in pressure. PSP can measure continuous pressure field by analyzing the oxygen quantity using optical method. The surface pressure of down stream after the sonic jet that injected transversely into the supersonic freestream was measured by PSP technique. Moreover the effect of various rectangular shaped cavities in front of the jet was measured by PSP technique. A comparison of the PSP results with conventional pressure tap and CFD indicates good agreement. Until now, the results of numerical analysis were compared with the discrete points such as the results of pressure tap. In this study, the whole region pressure was measured using PSP technique and its results were similar to CFD. Therefore, the flow phenonenon of cavity downstream was clearly grasped.
