Three species of Choreutidae (Lepidoptera) new to Korea with the first record of Brenthiinae for the country

  • Three species of Choreutidae, Choreutis atrosignata (Christoph, 1888), Choreutis japonica (Zeller, 1877), and Litobrenthia japonica (Issiki, 1930), are reported for the first time from Korea. The records of C. atrosignata and C. japonica are based on two females from Yeongwol, Gangwon Province and from the Island Chujado, Jeju Province, respectively. The latter species was obtained from two larvae collected on the leaves of Ficus erecta (Moraceae). Photographs and data of rearing the larvae are provided. The record of L. japonica was based on two specimens collected from the Islands, Bogildo and Wando, Jeollanam Province. The present data of L. japonica represent the first record of the subfamily Brenthiinae and the genus Litobrenthia from Korea. Distributions of two species C. japonica and L. japonica, previously known only from Japan, now extends to Korea. Habitus and genitalia of the species treated here are briefly described and illustrated, if possible. To sum up, the Korean Choreutidae comprises four genera and 10 species, nine in Choreutinae and one in Brenthiinae.

제주도 지역 담배가루이 JpL의 발생현황 (Occurrence of Bemisia tabaci JpL (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) on Jeju Island in Korea)

  • 노린재목(Hemiptera) 가루이과(Aleyrodidae)에 속하는 담배가루이(Bemisia tabaci Gennadius)는 전 세계적으로 900종 이상의 다양한 작물에 경제적 피해를 주고 있는 주요 해충이다. 특히 이 중 담배가루이 JpL (Lonicera japonica)은 현재까지 일본과 한국에서만 서식하는 종으로 보고되어 있으며, 주로 인동덩굴(Lonicera japonica) 및 일부 식물 종에만 서식하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구는 2019년 제주도 지역 담배가루이 JpL의 발생 현황 및 확산 정도를 확인하기 위하여 수행되었으며, 총 25개 채집지역 중 24개 지역의 인동덩굴 및 1개 지역의 큰망초(Conyza sumatrensis)에서 담배가루이 JpL 성충 1,003개체를 채집하였다. 채집된 담배가루이 성충의 유전자 염기서열을 분석한 결과, 분석된 모든 담배가 루이는 JpL로 확인되었으며, 본 연구의 결과 담배가루이 JpL의 개체수는 이전에 국내에서 보고된 이후 현재까지 매우 빠른 속도로 증가하고 있음을 확인하였다.

무관수 옥상녹화시스템의 차이에 따른 들잔디 적응성 평가 (Evaluation on Adaptation of Zosia japonica as Effected by Different Green Roof System under Rainfed Conditon)

  • This study proposes a guideline of a green roof system suitable for the local environment by verifying the growth of Zoysia japonica in a shallow, extensive, green roof system under rainfed condition. The experimental soil substrates into which excellent drought tolerance and creeping Z. japonica was planted were made with different soil thicknesses(15cm, 25cm) and soil mixing ratios(SL, $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$, $P_4P_4L_2$). The plant height, green coverage ratio, fresh weight, dry weight and chlorophyll contents of Z. japonica were investigated. For the soil thickness of 15cm, the plant height of Z. japonica was significantly as affected by the soil mixing ratio and it was shown in the order SL= $P_4P_4L_2$ < $P_7P_1L_2$ = $P_5P_3L_2$ < $P_6P_2L_2$. For the soil thickness of 25cm, the plant height was increased in order to SL < $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$ < $P_4P_4L_2$. The green coverage ratio was not observed by soil the mixing ratio or soil thickness. However, the green coverage ratio was 86~90% with a good coverage rate overall. The chlorophyll contents of Z. japonica were not significantly affected by the soil mixing ratio in the soil thickness of 15cm, but were higher in the natural soil than in the artificial soil at 25cm soil thickness. The fresh weight and dry weight of Zoysia japonica were heavier in the 25cm thickness than in the 15cm thickness and in the artificial soil mixture than in the natural soil. The result indicated that the growth of Zoysia japonica was more effective in the 25cm soil thickness with artificial soil than in the 15cm soil thickness with natural soil in the green roof system under rainfed condition.

복숭아흑진딧물에 기생(寄生)하는 진디벌에 관(關)하여 (A Study on the Primary Parasites in the Green Peach Aphid, Myzus persicae (Homoptera : Aphididae), and Its Hyperparasites)

  • 복숭아 혹 진딧물의 생물적(生物的) 방제(防除)를 위한 기초자료(基礎資料)를 얻기 위하여 85년 4~10월(月)까지 대전근교(大田近郊)의 포장에서 복숭아혹진딧물에 기생(寄生)하는 진디벌의 종류(種類)와 이에 기생하는 중기생벌을 조사하였고 진디벌과 중기생벌과의 관계, 주요 진디벌과 중기생벌의 mummy 형성 및 우화 등을 조사하였으며 진디벌의 생존기간(生存期間) 등을 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 야외에서 채집(採集)된 201개(個)의 mummy 중 진디벌이 38.3% 중기생벌이 44.3%가 우화(羽化)되었다. 2. 복숭아 혹 진딧물에 기생하는 진디벌은 Lysiphlebia japonica와 Trioxys hokkaidenis가 가장 많았다. 3. 중기생벌은 Prataphelinus nikalskajae, Eucoila sp. Ardilea convexa가 많았다. 4. L. japonica가 T. hokkaidensis보다 중기생벌에게 더 많이 기생 당하고 있었다. 5. 종합적인 기생활동능력(寄生活動能力)은 T. hokkaidensis가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 6. L. japonica의 수명은 최대 3일이며 Glucose를 먹이로 하였을 때 가장 길었다.

Taxonomy and Phylogeny of Neosiphonia japonica (Rhodomelaceae,Rhodophyta) Based on rbcL and cpeA/B Gene Sequences

  • Neosiphonia japonica is a rhodomelacean red alga that occurs in Korea, Japan, China, far-east Russia, northwest America, and New Zealand. Although it is distinguished by a bush-like habit having four pericental cells with cortication and numerous branches on axes, the taxonomy of N. japonica is still problematic. To investigate the taxonomy and phylogeny of the species, we analyzed rbcL and phycoerythrin (cpeA/B) genes from 19 samples of N. japonica and putative relatives. Phylogenetic trees from both genes show that N. japonica from Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and USA is clearly separated from N. decumbens, N. harlandii, and N. flavimarina from the Pacific Ocean. Instead, N. harveyi from the Atlantic Ocean was more related to N. flavimarina than to N. japonica. This result supports morphological and distributional differences between N. japonica and N. harveyi. However, the close relationship between these species suggests that they might have a recent most common ancestor. This is the second report to use the cpeA/B gene for evaluating species diversity in the Rhodophytes.

곤쟁이, Neomysis japonica에 대한 여러 가지 중금속의 급성독성 (Acute Toxicity of Various Heavy Metals on Mysid, Neomysis japonica)

  • In order to estimate acute toxicity of various heavy metals on mysid, Neomysis japonica, the experiments were conducted by renewal bioassay method at $20\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ and $30\pm0.3$ psu salinity. The 96 hr $LC_{50}$ of Neomysis japonica exposed to cadmium, copper, zinc, arsenic, lead and chromium were $90.4\;{\mu}g/L$, $82.3\;{\mu}g/L$, $646.1\;{\mu}g/L$, $1488.5\;{\mu}g/L$, $1758.8\;{\mu}g/L$ and $1609.6\;{\mu}g/L$, respectively, and were ranked in order of toxicity: copper > cadmium > zinc > arsenic > chromium > lead.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the different responses of cultured plant cells to paraquat treatment and nucleus-DNA damage in relation to enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Furthermore, this study was also carried out to understand the antioxidative mechanism of plant cells to environmental stress. We selected two different species of plant cultured cells, Ipomoea batatas as high-SOD species and Lonicera japonica as low-SOD species. The total activity and specific activity of SOD in a chlorophyllous cell of I. batatas were 3,736 unit/gㆍfresh weight and 547 unit/mgㆍprotein, respectively, and those in L. japonica were 23 unit/gㆍfresh weight and 13 unit/mgㆍprotein, respectively SOD activity in chlorophyllous I. batatas cells reached its maximum level at 10 to 15 days after subculture, whereas that in L. japonica remained at a very low SOD level during the whole period of subculture. In comparison to L. japonica, I. batatas, a high-SOD species, showed high tolerance to paraquat 10 and 50 mg/l treatment in terms of cell viability and electrolyte leakage. Based on the result of comet assay, the nucleus-DNA damage of two species by paraquat 50 mg/l treatment was not significantly different. However, I. batatas cells repaired their damaged DNA more effectively than the cells of the low-SOD species, L. japonica.

First Record of Three Barracudina Fishes (Aulopiformes: Teleostei) in Korean Waters

  • Three barracudina fishes (Paralepididae) were newly recorded from the southern sea of Korea. Lestidium prolixum is characterized by a single band of luminous ducts on the midventral line and absence of a papilla anterior to the eye. Lestrolepis intermedia and L. japonica are similar in having a black papilla immediately in front of the eye and two bands of luminous ducts on the midventral line. However, the dorsal fin of L. intermedia is located more posterior along the body than that of L. japonica, and L. intermedia have larger number of anal fin rays 42 (vs. 36-40) and vertebrae 95 (vs. 86-87) than L. japonica.

A Transplanting Method of Laminaria japonica Areschoug (Laminariales, Phaeophyta)

  • To obtain basic data, we investigated the effect of blade length on transplants, the transplanting method of Laminaria japonica for creating L. japonica resources and the number of transplanting plates with surviving L. japonica. The survival rate of L. japonica, blade length of transplants and drag force of transplanting plates were also researched. The number of transplanting plates with surviving L. japonica, the survival rate and blade length of 20 cm long-initial transplants were greater than those of 1.5, 5 and 10 cm long-initial transplants in an outdoor aquarium. At the depth of 4 m in the coastal waters, the number of transplanting plates with surviving transplants, the survival rate and the blade length of 30 cm long-initial transplants were higher than those of 10 and 20 cm longinitial transplants. The drag force is calculated by cording up sporophytes of L. japonica into the transplanting plates under water. The drag force in the case of a 2.18 kg-weight transplanting plate and in a current speed of 0.5 m${\cdot}s^{-1}$ for considering stability of the plate was 631.50 g to a concrete substratum on the seabed, 703.92 g to a shingle substratum, 788.00 g to a sand substratum, and 1018.30 g to a silt substratum. If we consider the stability and economic efficiency of the transplanting plate, the proper weight of the plate per one individual of 18.11 cm in blade width and 190.20 cm in total blade length is regarded as 508.2 g when it is calculated with the concrete substratum that shows the lowest drag force.

백작약 추출물이 식중독 유발 세균의 증식에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Extracts from Paeonia japonica on the Growth of Food-borne Pathogens)

  • 본 연구에서는 과거부터 민간이나 한방에서 널리 사용되어져 온 백작약의 식중독 유발 세균에 대한 항균 활성을 조사해 보고자하였다. 백작약을petroleum ether. chloroform, ethylacetate 및 methanol의 4가지 유기용매 및 열수에 추출하고, Gram(+)세균인 Staphylococcus. aureus 및 Staphylococcus. epidermidis와Gram(-)세균인 Salmonella typhimirium, Salmonella paratyphimirium, Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella flexneri, Shigella sonnei 및 Pseudomonas aeruginosa에 대한 성장 억제 실험을 해 본 바, 백작약의 methanol 추출물이 10 mg/mL 농도에서 Salmonella typhimurium에 대해 가장 높은 항균력을 나타내었다. Staphylococcus aureus에 대한 항균력은 백작약의 ethylacetate 추출물이 5 mg/mL에서 가장 큰 항균 효과를 보였으며, 액체 배지에 배양한 경우 5~10 mg/mL 농도에서 18시간까지 성장 억제 효과가 나타났다.
