This study was conducted to design long and short forms of reliable and valid Likert-type scales to measure environmental attitudes of Korean junior high school students. 8 tests were applied to the construction of a 32-item long form and 8-item short form of the scale. Two scales were field tested on 469 respondents consisting of male and female students in urban and rural areas and students participating in environmental programs. The 32-item scale was revealed to be highly reliable, content and construct valid. Reliability and homogeneity of this scale were evidenced by 0.92 coefficient alpha and positive interitem correlation values ranging from 0.10 to 0.52. Factor analysis and known-group comparison showed the sufficient validity of long form scale. Reliability and validity of short form scale were also evidenced by good results of 8 test analyses. The long and short forms were strongly correlated, ${\gamma}$-value of 0.90. Consequently, both long form and short form scales were evidenced very reliable and valid in measuring environmental attitudes of junior high school students in Korea. They can be useful for a variety of survey conditions and constraints and testing environmental attitude.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to evaluate posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer and to examine the validity and reliability of the scale. Methods: A literature review, semi-structured patient interviews and an expert panel consultation produced a 27 preliminary item questionnaire. Participants were 150 cancer patients recruited to test the reliability and validity of the preliminary scale. Data were analyzed using item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity and internal consistency. Results: Item reduction and exploratory factor analysis led to 23 items, grouped into five subscales which were labelled new possibilities (6 items), coping skills (5 items), preciousness of life (5 items), relating to others (4 items), and personal strength (3 items). Convergent validity was evaluated by total correlation with the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (r=.45, p<.001). The final scale demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ =.94). Conclusion: Findings from this study indicate that the Cancer-Specific Posttraumatic Growth Inventory has validity and reliability and is considered to be appropriate for assessing posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer.
This study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of Maternal Self-Report Inventory that was developed by Shea and Tronick for measuring maternal self-esteem. The subjects were 154 mothers. The construct validity for the scale was tested by factor analysis with five factor loading solution based on the previous study. One item was excluded because total-item correlation was too low, so that the number of total items were twenty-five, the analysis yielded five well defined factors: confidence on the maternal role, general ability of maternal role, caretaking ability, readiness on maternal role, and feeling on the pregnancy and deli very. These five factors explained 52.38% of the variance in the maternal self-esteem. Maternal self-esteem was not affected by maternal age, educational level, occupation, religion, delivery type, or parity. The reliability of the scale was determined with Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Guttman split-half coefficient. Cronbach's alpha was .82, for 26 items, and .83 if one item was deleted. Guttman split-half cofficient was .75. In subscale analysis, Cronbach's alpha was .63~.84. In conclusion. Maternal Self-Report Inventory showed a high degree of validity and reliability, suitable in Korean mothers for measuring maternal self-esteem. In the further study, it would be necessary to compare the maternal self-esteem between mothers with normal babies and premature babies, for confirming the criterion-related validity of the inventory.
Objectives : To develop a tool for multidimensional measurement of the quality of life, which was psychometrically sound, short, and easy to administer for patients with hypertension. Methods : A sample of 1,115 hypertensive patients aged 20 or above in Cheong-Song County was studied from June 1997 to October 1998. In the development of the instrumental stage, the authors first conceptualized the quality of life. Item generation, item reduction, and questionnaire formatting were followed. Item-level (item descriptive, missing%, item internal consistency, item discriminant validity) analysis, scale-level (scale descriptive, floor and ceiling effect) analysis, and other tests(Cronbach's alpha, inter-dimension correlations, factor analysis, clinical validity) were performed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the new measurement scale. After 1 year, responsiveness and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. Results : The results of both item-level and scale-level analyses were acceptable. An acceptable degree of internal consistency was observed for each of the dimensions (Cronbach's alpha was 0.60 or higher). Inter-dimension correlations were below 0.50 and the factor analysis result was the same as the intended dimension structure. Correlation coefficients between perceived health status, stress and dimensions were proven to be acceptable. The result of comparing dimensional score means among ADL and MMSE-K groups above 60 years was statistically significant(p<0.05). The result of confirmatory factor analysis concluded that the dimensional structure model was well fitted. However, the result of responsiveness test using sensitivity and specificity was unsatisfactory. Conclusions : The newly developed measurement scale is psychometrically reliable and valid instrument for measuring quality of life in hypertensive patients.
Objectives We tried to examine the change in the test-retest response for the questionnaire itself regarding the QSCCII. Methods Tests were conducted twice times with an interval of 6 months between tests for test-retest reliability analysis. We examined the test-retest answer agreement rate (%) in all items of QSCCII . We conducted NcNemar analysis to examine test-retest reliability for 77 items selected from the QSCCII. Results The body shape-multiple-choice items showed a tendency of low test-retest agreement rate and most of the questions about when I was not well and when I felt my body condition improve showed an high test-retest agreement rate tendency in all items of QSCCII. As a result of the research on the selected 77 items, there was a significant change in the answer in item No.25, 58(in the item of Soeumin) item No.45, 103(in the item of Taeumin) and item No.87 (in the item of Soeumin) (Table.3, 4, 5, 6). Conclusion The QSCCII is shown as a questionnaire composed of mostly no significant response changes in test-retest in each item through this study. Some items were appropriately deleted in the process of developing the advanced model, but there are also items that should be considered further. It is thought that some items should be used after being refined in content and form.
In this study, selecting methods of the hydraulic valve and evaluation item for development of reliability testing standard are c]early defined. And, we developed reliability testing standard of the hydraulic valves which are as follows, - Hydraulic directional control valve, - Hydraulic on-off solenoid valve - Hydraulic PWM valve, - Hydraulic check valve, - Hydraulic relief valve, - Hydraulic reducing valve, - Hydraulic flow control valve
Domestic construction industry (including plant engineering industry) faces severe competition with world-wide leading companies under WTO (World Trade Organization) system. To survive in this competition, domestic construction company should establish and operate standardization system efficiently. In this paper, check list is presented to prepare the efficient reliability management system in domestic construction. And then, the check list is applied in MIR(Maturity Index on Reliability) estimation item to estimate reliability management level of company quantitatively.
Purpose: This Study was to examine to applicability of the Maslach Burnout Inventory on measuring burnout of the nurses who works in Korean university hospitals. Methods: The sample included 200 nurses and nurse managers. We used 22-item Maslach Burnout Inventory to evaluate the reported burnout. We evaluated the convergent validity through the factor analysis, and evaluated the discriminant validity through the Pearson's correlation analysis. Also, we evaluated the reliability for three subscales of Maslach Burnout Inventory with the Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, which assesses the internal consistency. Results: Factor analysis revealed three factors being extracted from the 22-item Maslach Burnout Inventory, and item loading for each factor is higher than 0.5. Therefore, the Maslach Burnout Inventory demonstrated high convergent validity. Also, emotional exhaustion, personal accomplishment, and depersonalization showed low correlation leading to the conclusion that there was discriminant validity. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficients in the 22-item Maslach Burnout Inventory and three subscales were higher than 0.7. Conclusion: Maslach Burnout Inventory can be used as a valid instrument to measure the burnout level of the nurses working in Korean university hospitals.
The purpose of this study was to develope a questionaire measuring clothing behavior of elementary school children. At first, after pretest, the clothing behavior questionaire consisted of 70 items which were devidad. into 7 subscales i.e. Clothing interest. Clothing satisfaction. Clothing management, Clothing sex-role. Clothing comfort. Clothing conformity. and Clothing independence. Each item was rated on a 3-point scale. Samples were 447 boys and girls (4 th, 5 th, 6 th grade) of three elementary schools in Seoul. Korea. The data were analyzed by item analysis and factor analysis. Factor analysis was useful in attempting to establish contruct validity. Item validity was examined based on the correlation coefficients and item discriminating power through the chi-square. Reliability was examined based on the Cronbach's Alpha Reliability Coefficient and test-retest method. With this analysis the subscales were reconstructed to following 6 factors. Clothing conformity items were not clustered by the factor analysis. 52 items of 6 factors selected by the analysis. The factors characteristics were as follows: 1. Clothing interest (10 items) 2. Clothing satisfaction (11 items) 3. Clothing management (8 items) 4. Clothing sex-role (12 items) 5. Clothing comfort (6 items) 6. Clothing independence (5 items)
This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of a diagnostic instrument to be used to measure the developmental level of very young children (aged birth through 36 months) and to screen young children at risk. The subjects of this study were 861 young children. Data were analyzed by item response distribution, item discrimination, reliability, and validity of the scale. Items reflected the developmental level of each age group. Overall internal consistency was relatively high (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.90{\sim}.95$), and test-retest (after 2 weeks) reliability was high. Content validity was examined by a panel of experts in the related field. The construct validity as well as the concurrent validity of this instrument was also established.
