  • This paper proves the invariability of reachable sets for the linear control system with positive isolated spectrum points in case where the principal operator generates $C_0-semigroup$ and derives the approximate controllability for the semilinear control system by using spectral operators with respect to isolated spectrum points.

  • Alliin was isolated from deep-frozen garlic bulbs and purified into crystalline form. Purity of isolated alliin was assured by melting point determination and thin-layer chromatography. Sulfoxide bond and functional groups of amino acid were confirmed with IR spectrum, and vinyl bond with NMR spectrum. Molecular weight, allyl and other bonds were confirmed with MS spectrum.

  • Acyl CoA synthetase inhibitor, was purified from the culture broth of a Bacillus sp. B-6, which had been isolated from soil, by chloroform extract, silica gel column chro matography and preparative TLC. The purified acyl CoA synthetase inhibitor showed higher Antifungal activity against C. al-bicans (MIC: 8${\mu}$g/ml). Though the analysis of UV spectrum, melting point, IR spectrum, Mass-spectrum, $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR spectrum, the inhibitor could be identified as phenazine-l-carboxylic acid.

  • Base-isolated nuclear power plant (BI-NPP) structures are founded on expanded basemat as a flexible floating nuclear island, are still lacking the recommendation of the consideration of incoherent motion effect. The effect of incoherent earthquake motion on the seismic response of BI-NPP structure has been investigated herein. The incoherency of the ground motions is applied by using an isotropic frequency-dependent spatial correlation function to perform the conditional simulation of the reference design spectrum compatible ground motion in time domain. Time history analysis of two structural models with 486 and 5 equivalent lead plug rubber bearing (LRB) base-isolators have been done under uniform excitation and multiple point excitation. two different cases have been considered: 1) Incoherent motion generated for soft soil and 2) Incoherent motion generated for hard rock soil. The results show that the incoherent motions reduce acceleration and the lateral displacement responses and the reduction is noticeable at soft soil site and higher frequencies.

Types of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Produced in Enteric Bacteria Isolated from Sewage Plant Drain Water (하수처리수에서 분리된 장내세균의 광범위 베타락탐분해효소의 유형)

  • This study focused on typing of the extended-spectrum $\beta$-lactamase (ESBL) produced in organisms isolated from a natural environment, rather than a clinical setting. Samples were collected from drain water issuing from a sewage plant in Kwanganri (Busan, Korea). Following double disk synergy testing, 29 strains were selected as potential ESBL positive strains. Of these, 15 strains were transconjugants of the sodium azide resistant recipient strain Escherichia coli J53 and analyzed biochemically including indole, methyl-red, Voges-Proskauer, Simmon's citrate, decarboxylase-dihydrolase and sugar-fermentation tests. The tests classified the 15 strains as Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=13) and Escherichia coli (n=2). The type of ESBL from each strain was deduced by isoelectric focusing point analysis and DNA sequencing. The results indicated that the types of ESBL were SHV-12 (n=4) and SHV-12/TEM-1 (n=9) from K. pneumoniae and TEM-1 (n=2) from E. coli strains.

  • To identify eriodictyol from the leaves of Lespedeza maximowiczii C.K. $S_{CHNEIDER}$, growing in Korea, the fresh leaves collected at Mt. Chil Bo, Geong Gi Province were used in the investigation. A white crystal was isolated from the water extract and it was identified as eriodictyol by its melting point, physico-chemical properties, thin layer chromatography and infrared absorption spectrum patterns.

A Novel Plasmid-Mediated ${\beta}-lactamase$ that Hydrolyzes Broad-Spectrum Cephalosporins in a Clinical Isolate of Klebsiella pneumoniae

  • A new extended-spectrum ${\beta}-lactamase$ with an isoelectric point (pl) of 6.2 was detected in Klebsiella pneumoniae Fl 61 that was isolated from a patient with infection. This strain was highly resistant to the third or fourth generation cephalosporins such as cceftazidime ceftriaxone, cefoperzaone, and cefpirome. Analysis of this strain by the double disk diffusion test showed synergies between amoxicillin-clavulanate (AMX-CA) and cefotaxime, and AMX-CA and aztreonam, which suggested that this strain produced a extended-spectrum ${\beta}-lactamase$ (ESBL). Cenetic analysis revealed that the resistance was due to the presence of a 9.4-kb plasmic, designated as pkpl 61, encoding for new ${\beta}-lactamase$ gene (bla). Sequence analysis showed that a new bla gene of pkpl 61 differed from $bla_{TEM-1}$ by three mutations leading to the following amino acid substitutions: $Val_{84}{\rightarrow}lie,{\;}Ala_{184}{\rightarrow}Val,{\;}and{\;}Gly_{238}{\rightarrow}Ser$. These mutations have not been reported previously in the TIM type ${\beta}-lactamases$ produced by clinical strains. The novel ${\beta}-lactamase$ was overexpressed in E. coli and purified by ion exchange chromatography on Q-Sepharose and CM-Sepharose, and then further purified by gel filtration on Sehadex G-200. The catalytic activity of th8 purified ${\beta}-lactamase$ was confirmed by the nitrocefin disk.

  • Antitumor antibiotic HS-1 was purified from the culture broth of a streptomyces floridae SHS-1372 which had been isolated from soil, by solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography and gel filtration. It was confirmed that HS-1 was active against gram positive bacteria and cancer cells(K562, P388, MCF-7, HT-29). Through the analysis of UV spectrum, melting point, IR spectrum, FAB-MS, $_{1}$H-NMR, $_{13}$C-NMR, 2D-NMR spectra, HS-1 could be identified sa the actinomycin X$_{2}$ antibiotics containing actinocine chromophore and peptides consisted of threonine, proline, methylvaline, sarcosine, D-valine and 4-ketoproline.
