  • This paper explores to identify the stem-final consonants of p- and t-irregular verbs in Korean within the framework of Government Phonology. Since the advent of Generative Phonology, the phenomenon of irregular verbal conjugation has been of great interest to Korean phonologists both in linear and non-linear approaches. When we examine these analyses, we find that one of the major issues concerns the identities of the stem-final consonants of p- and t-irregular verbs. The proposals concerning this issue vary considerably from one another. In this paper, I put forward a different view from those proposals in that the stem-fmal consonants of p- and tirregular verbs are tensed p' and t' respectively.

  • The semi-active TLCD system is investigated for control of responses of 3D irregular buildings under seismic excitations. The TLCD system is a special type of TMD system providing a performance similar to a TMD system but offers a number of practical advantages over the traditional TMD system. The equations of motion for the combined building and TLCD system are derived for multistory building structures with rigid floors and plan and elevation irregularities. Simulation results for control of two multistory moment-resisting space structures with vertical and plan irregularities show clearly that the semi-active TLCD control system reduces the responses of 3D irregular buildings subjected to earthquake ground motions efficiently.

  • The pointwise convergence define the relation-ship between the mesh-size and the tolerance. This will play an important role in improving quality of finite element approximate solution. In this paper, We evaluate the convergence on a certaon unknown point with a 1-irregular mesh refinement. This m that the degree of freedom is minimized within a tolerance.

We evaluate the convergence on a certain unknown point with a 1-irregular mesh refinement and spectral order enrichment. This means that the degree of freedom is minimized within a tolerance.

  • In this paper we present a remeshing algorithm for irregular meshes with boundaries. The irregular meshes are approximated by regular meshes where the topological regularity is essential for the multiresolutional analysis of the given meshes. Normal meshes are utilized to reduce the necessary data size at each resolution level of the regularized meshes. The normal mesh uses one scalar value, i.e., normal offset value which is based on the regular rule of a uniform subdivision, while other remeshing schemes use one 3D vector at each vertex. Since the normal offset cannot be properly used for the boundaries of meshes, we use a combined subdivision scheme which resolves a problem of the proposed normal offset method at the boundaries. Finally, we show an example to see the effectiveness of the proposed scheme to reduce the data size of a mesh model.

  • This paper presents the design of block lengths for irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on the maximum variable degree $d_{{\upsilon},max}$. To design a block length, the performance degradation of belief-propagation (BP) decoding performance from upper bounds on the maximum likelihood (ML) decoding performance is used as an important factor. Since for large block lengths, the performance of irregular LDPC codes is very close to the Shannon limit, we focus on moderate block lengths ($5{\times}10^2\;{\leq}\;N\;{\leq}\;4{\times}10^3$). Given degree distributions, the purpose of our paper is to find proper block lengths based on the maximum variable degree $d_{{\upsilon},max}$. We also present some simulation results which show how a block length can be optimized.

  • Median filtering is a nonlinear method which is known to be effective in removing impulse noise while preserving local image structure relatively well. However, it could still suffer the smearing phenomena of edges and fine details into neighbors due to undesirable influence from the pixels whose values are far off from the true value of the pixel at hand. This drawback mainly comes from the fact that median filters typically employ a regular shape window for collecting the pixels used in the filtering operation. In this paper, we propose a median filtering method which employs an irregular shape filter window in collecting neighboring pixels around the pixel to be denoised. By employing an irregular shape window, we can achieve good noise suppression while preserving image details. Experimental results have shown that our approach is superior to regular window-based methods.

  • The article aims to present findings of a study which has examined the ability of elementary school mathematics teachers and of teacher-trainees in other disciplines to solve irregular challenging problems of sequences in general rather than numerical sequences only. The findings show that mathematics teachers succeed to cope with unusual assignments when the requirements of the problems presented to them are analogous to irregular problems. However, when the problems require a change in the thinking procedure in the direction of creative thinking, there is a considerable decrease in performance. Another finding shows that, although teacher-trainees succeed less in solving the presented problems, they give incorrect solutions which do indicate creative thinking. An inevitable conclusion based on the research findings is that teacher training institutions should enhance and reinforce multi-directional. branching out and creative thinking competences.

  • The irregular shaped buildings have depended on the digital technology for their design and construction. The digital technology also has been developed for years at fast pace. This paper examined the cases of the irregular shaped buildings from 1990, when the result of the architectural works were begun to emerge to the world, up to the present and characteristics of the digital technology of those periods.

  • Triangulated irregular network is one of the most frequently used terrain modeling methods. It represents terrain precisely using only a small amount of data, and enables fast rendering of terrain. In this paper, ridges and valleys are extracted from the terrain, and used as a set of vertices for the construction of triangulated irregular network. An experiment shows the new method reduces the time for construction of the triangulated irregular network significantly with almost equal amount of induced error.
