Appropriate yield criteria are necessary to perform computer simulation for densification processes of powder compacts and sintered metals. Various yield functions have been reviewed and a new form for yield criterion has been advanced. The yield criterion satisfies experimental results from combined tension and torsion tests of sintered porous iron specimens.
In this study, the influenced of graphite shape on the boriding of cast iron and boride structure was investigated. Gray cast iron, ferritic and pearlitic ductile cast iron were borided at 750,850,900 and $950^{\circ}C$ for 1,3 and 5 hours by powder pack method with the mixture of $B_4C_9\;Na_2B_4O_7$, $KBF_4$ and Shc. The boride layer was consisted of FeB(little), $Fe_2B$ (main) and graphite. Some possibility of the existence of unknown Fe-B-C compound in the boride layer was suggested. And precipitates in the diffusion zone was $Fe_3(B,C)$. The concentration of Si and precipitation of $Fe_3(B,C)$ in the ${\alpha}$ layer raised the hardness of this Zone. The depth and hardness of boride layer increased with the increase of treating temperature and tim. But high temperature (over $950^{\circ}C)$ caused pore at graphite position and long treating time (5hrs) sometimes caused formation of graphite layer beneath the boride layer. So, for the practical application of borided cast iron, treating in short time and at low temperature was recommended. And for ductile cast iron, ferritizing or pearlitizing heat treatment was seemmed to be possible at the same time with boriding. The graphite in the boride layer was deeply concerned with the qualitx and characteristics of the boride layer. And it greatly influenced on the shape of the boride phase, structure of the boride layer. Generally speaking, the existance of graphite restrained the growth of the boride phase. But the boundary between the gsaphite and the matrix acted as the shortcut of boron diffusion. So, for gray cast iron, the graphite layed length-wise led the formation of boride layer.
The interfacial structure of duplex treated AISI 4140 consisting of iron nitride and TiN layer was characterized by optical microscope, SEM and XRD. A black layer was formed from the decomposition of iron nitride during Ti ion bombardment. The black layer was characterized as an a-Fe phase transformed from the iron nitride by XRD. In order to identify the formation mechanism of the black layer, a thermal analysis of iron nitride undertaken by DSC method. As an iron nitride was mostly consisted of ${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$N and $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N phase after plasma nitriding, in this study, a ${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$N and $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N powders were separately prepared by the different processing conditions of gas nitriding of iron powder in the fluidized bed. From the DSC thermal analysis, the phase transformation of ${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$N, $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N was followed the path of transformation; $ \Upsilon{'}-Fe_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$-Felongrightarrowa-Fe and of $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$Nlongrightarrow$\varepsilon$-$Fe_{2.5}$ /N+${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$longrightarrowFelongrightarrowalongrightarrowFe, respectively. It explains the reason why the $\varepsilon$$-Fe_3$N phase disappeared in the first time and then ${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$N in the formation of the black layer in the duplex coating.
Commercial flake graphite cast iron substrate was coated with titanium powder by low pressure plasma spraying and was irradiated with a $CO_2$ laser to produce the wear resistant composite layer. From the experimental results of this study, it was possible to composite TiC particles on the surface layer by direct reaction between carbon existed in the cast iron matrix and titanium with thermal sprayed coating by remelting and alloying them using laser irradiation. The cooling rate of laser remelted cast iron substrate without titanium coating was about $1{\times}10^4$ K/s to $1{\times}10^5$ K/s in the order under the condition used in this study. The microstructure of alloyed layer consisted of three zones, that is, TiC particule crystallized zone (MHV $400{\sim}500$), the mixed zone of TiC particule+ledebulite (MHV $650{\sim}900$) and the ledebulite zone (MHV $500{\sim}700$). TiC particules were crystallized as a typical dendritic morphology. The secondary TiC dendrite arms were grown to the polygonized shape and were necking. And then the separated arms became cubic crystal of TiC at the slowly solidified zone. But in the rapidly solidified zone of fusion boundry, the fine granular TiC particules were grouped like grape.
MRE(magneto-rheological elastomers) is a material which shows reversible and various modulus in magnetic field. Comparing to conventional rubber vibration isolator, MREs are able to absorb vibration of broader frequency range. These characteristic phenomena result from the orientation of magnetic particles named carbonyl iron powder(CIP) in rubber matrix. In this paper, simulation on variation rate of shear modulus for anisotropic MRE due to volume fraction of CIP and an effective permeability model was applied to predict the field-induced shear modulus of MREs. Also, the variation rate of shear modulus for anisotropic MRE was derived using magneto-mechanical theory. Based on Maxwell-Garnett mixing rule, the increment of shear modulus was calculated to evaluate the shear modulus of MREs with column structure of CIP due to induced current. The simulation results on variation rate of shear modulus can be applied to the variable mechanical system of MRE such as tunable vibration absorber, stiffness variable bush and mount.

For drug effect, it is important to make clear of original prescription.
Fe(C) nanocapsules were prepared by the chemical vapor condensation(CVC) process using the pyrolysis of iron pentacarbonyl $(Fe(CO)_5)$. Their characterizations were studied by means of X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer and transmission electron microscopy. The long-chained Fe(C) nanocapsules hav-ing the mean size of under 70 nm could be obtained below $1100^{\circ}C$ in different gas flow rates. The particle size of the powders was increased with increasing decomposition temperature, but it was decreased with increasing CO gas flow rate. The Fe powders produced at $500^{\circ}C$ consisted of three layers of ${\alpha}$-Fe/$Fe_3C$/amorphous phases, but it had two phase core-shell structure which consited of $Fe_3C$ phase of core and graphite of shell at $1100^{\circ}C$.
The combined effect of bioaugmentation of dechlorinating bacterial cultures and addition of iron powder (Fe$^{0}$ ) on reductive dechlorination of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and other chlorinated ethylenes in a artificially contaminated soil slurry (60$\mu$mo1es PCE/kg soil) were tested. Two different anaerobic bacterial cultures, a pure bacterial culture of Desulfitobacterium sp. strain Y-51 capable of dechlorinating PCE to cis-1, 2-dechloroethylene (cis-DCE) and the other enrichment culture PE-1 capable of dechlorinating PCE completely to ethylene, were used for the bioaugmentation test. Both treatments introduced with the strain Y-51 and PE-1 culture (3mg dry cell weight/kg soil) showed conversion of PCE to cis-DCE within 40 days. The treatments added with Fe$^{0}$ (0.1 -1.0 %(w/w)) alone to the soil slurry resulted in extended PCE dechlorination to ethylene and ethane and the, dechlorination rate depended on the amount of Fe$^{0}$ added. The combined use of the bacterial cultures with Fe$^{0}$ (0.1-1.0%) showed the higher PCE dechlorination rate than the separated application and the pattern of PCE dechlorination and end-product formation was different from those of the separated application. These results suggested that the combined application of Fe$^{0}$ and the bactrial culture, specially the complete dechlorinating enrichment culture such as PE-1 culture, would be practically effective for remediation of PCE contaminated soil.
Flue gases in the iron foundry consist of 15~20% CO2 as an air pollution gas whose emission should be mitigated in order to protect the environment. In the present study, ultrafine powders of NixZn1-xFe2O4 as a potential catalyst for the CO2 decomposition were prepared by the coprecipitation methods. Oxygen deficient ferrites (MeFe2O4-$\delta$) can decompose CO2 as C and O2 at a low temperature of about 30$0^{\circ}C$. The XRD result of synthesized ferrites showed the spinel structure of ferrites and ICP-AES and EDS quantitative analyses showed the composition similar with initial molar ratios of the mixed solution prior to reaction. The BET surface area of the (Ni, Zn)-ferrites was about 77~89.5$m^2$/g and their particle size was observed about 10~20 nm. The CO2 decomposition efficiency of the oxygen deficient (Nix, Zn1-x)-ferrites was the highest at x=0.3, and the ternary (Ni, Zn)-ferrites was better than that of binary Ni-ferrites.
MRE(Magneto-rheological Elastomer) is a material which shows reversible and various modulus in magnetic field. Comparing to conventional rubber vibration isolator, MREs are able to absorb broader frequency range of vibration. These characteristic phenomena result from the orientation of magnetic particle (i.e., chain-like formation) in rubber matrix. In this study, NR was used as a matrix in order to manufacture MREs. Magnetic reactive powder(MRP), having rapid magnetic reaction, was selected as a magnetic particle to give magnetic field reactive modulus. The mechanical properties of manufactured MREs were measured without the application of magnetic field. The results showed that the tensile property and resilience were decreased while the hardness was increased with the addition of CIP. The analysis of MR effect was carried out by FFT analyzer with various magnetic flux. As the addition of MRP and magnetic flux increased, increment of MR effect was observed.
