Effects of Coating Materials on Fluidity and Temperature Loss of Molten Metals from Runner Systems in Full Moulds.

  • The full mould casting process in one of the newly developed techniques which has many advantages. Unbonded sand mould has been prepared for the major mould and $CO^2$ gas mould has been used occasionally for comparison. Patterns were built up with expanded polystyrene and coated with three different materials. Silica, graphite and zircon were used for the coating layer. The effects on fluidity and temperature loss of molten metals were investigated. The molten metals were Al-5% Si alloy, Cu-30% Zn alloy and gray iron of approximately 4.0% of carbon equivalent. Experimental variables were runner section area, superheat, sprue height, coating materials, coating thickness and apparent density of EPS pattern. The effects of coating materials on fluidity and temperature loss of the molten metals during transient pouring are summarized as follows : As runner section area, superheat and sprue height increased, fluidity increased. Temperature loss decreased as runner section area and sprue height increased. However, reversed effects were observed in the case of superheat increment. The coating materials decreased the fluidity of each alloy in the order of silica, graphite and zircon. Zircon brought to the highest temperature loss among the coating materials used. The fluidity increased in the order gray iron, Cu-30% Zn and Al-5% Si alloy while temperature loss in the reverse order. Especially in case of reduced pressure process, the fluidity was increased apparently. Al-5% Si alloy showed the lowest temperature loss among the alloys. The increment of the apparent density of EPS pattern resulted in the fluidity decrease and temperature loss increase. The relation between fluidity and temperature loss of each alloy can be expressed by the following equation within the coating thickness limit of 0.5-1.5㎜. 전착된 나노 결정질 니켈-철 합금의 미세구조 및 물성에 대한 철의 영향 (Effect of Iron Co-deposited Nickel on the Microstructures and Properties of Electroplated Nanocrystalline Nickel-iron Alloys)

  • Nickel-iron nanocrystalline alloys with different compositions and grain sizes were fabricated by electro-plating for MEMS devices. The iron content of the deposits was changed by varying the nickel/iron ion ratio in the electrolyte. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was applied for measuring the strength of the texture and grain size of the deposits. The nickel/iron atom ratio of the deposits was analyzed by EDS. The hardness of the alloys was evaluated by Vickers hardness indenter. The internal stress of the deposits was measured by Thin Film Stress Measurement using Stoney's formula. Surface morphology and roughness were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The results of this study revealed that at a grain size of approximately $17\~24$nm the hardness, internal stress and roughness depend strongly on the iron content. With increasing the iron content, the hardness and internal stress of the deposits increased. An excellent correlation between the increase in the internal stress and the loss of (200) texture was found.

  • In the present industry, there is not only the cutting of iron metal, but also the cutting of alloy aluminum, brass and plastic to wood(Paulownia). A variety of material is used and these industry is made need of the cutting material but lots of experiments processing is not enough at the moment. At this point, our team processed the basic experiment about influencing of Feedrate and Backrake angle of bite concerned to manufacture in the turning of non-iron metal. Generally speaking, we recognized that there was occurrence of increase of Surface Roughness with increasing of cutting angle in the non-iron metal, but in the cutting of wood we knew, there was special change with change of cutting angle

  • Effects of addition of manganese and final reduction on segregation behavior of sulfur and final mangetic induction during final annealing have been investigated in the 300 ppm sulfur-contained 3% silicon-iron alloy strips with or without manganese. At the same concentration of sulfur, lower final reduction is favorable for final Goss texture. This is because the probability that the initial Goss grains survive under the highly segregated sulfur atmosphere and grow selectively within the segregated sulfur-free time range becomes higher. In the case of 3% silicon-iron with manganese, much lower magnetic induction was obtained, although the weak final reduction of 30% is given to the alloy, comparative to the 40%. This is because MnS particles acted as an reducer in the primary grain size.

  • The synthesis of silver coated iron base alloy (Sendust : Fe-Si-Al) powder having the both effects of shielding and suppressing of electromagnetic wave was studied. Depending on thickness of silver coating layer, the electromagnetic properties of the dispersed particles complexed with organic binder were examined. It is proposed that the silver coated sendust flake powders with controlled electrical properties and thickness can be used as thin microwave absorbers in quasi-microwave frequency band.

  • For more than a decade components of low alloy iron powder with nickel and/or molybdenum for general engineering applications have been manufactured from powder metal. In the time to come such PM steel components will gain increasing significance. Because of various manufacturing difficulties they are mostly produced in two separate steps - sintering and hardening - which means high energy and labour requirements. The paper describes how such PM components are produced in just one run through a conveyor belt furnace with automatic atmosphere control and gas quenching zone. Energy and labour costs are low and reproducible quality is exceilent. The mechanical properties obtained with some powder alloys are presented as well.

  • When the steel containing Si is oxidated in hi temperature, Re2O3, Red scale is made on the metal side as the spike phase, and this scale invasion into matrix. Therefore, it affects the feature, after rolling. It is reported that the role of Si is FeO/Fe2SiO4 eutectic compound, but Si can not affect pure iron independently. There must be Ni, then the spike phase can exist. Prominence and depression made by Ni that is necessity at the process to work iron. Therefore, in this study after the change of the amount of Ni in pure iron and steel and oxidation, the structure of the oxide and the surface, and the distribution of the elements were considered. In conclusion, at 100$0^{\circ}C$, 110$0^{\circ}C$, 120$0^{\circ}C$ the curves of oxidation weight are all S curves. Especially, in the beginning of oxidation as the amount of Ni increase, the amount of oxidation also increase. Practical steel has less oxidation than pure steel added Ni. There is much FeO in Fe-Ni alloy, compare to practical steel which has much Fe3O4. Especially, we could know considerable Ni was concentrated on the metal side in Fe-Ni alloy, practical steel. and the surface of the scale.

Synthesis and electromagnetic properties of FeNi alloy nanofibers using an electrospinning method

  • FeNi alloy nanofibers have been prepared by an electrospinning process followed by air-calcination and H2 reduction to develop electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers in the giga-hertz (GHz) frequency range. The thermal behavior and phase and morphology evolution in the synthetic processes were systematically investigated. Through the heat treatments of calcination and H2 reduction, as-spun PVP/FeNi precursor nanofiber has been stepwise transformed into nickel iron oxide and FeNi phases but the fibrous shape was maintained perfectly. The FeNi alloy nanofiber had the high aspect ratio and the average diameter of approximately 190 nm and primarily composed of FeNi nanocrystals with an average diameter of ~60 nm. The FeNi alloy nanofibers could be used for excellent EM wave absorbing materials in the GHz frequency range because the power loss of the FeNi nanofibers increased up to 20 GHz without a degradation and exhibited the superior EM wave absorption properties compared to commercial FeNi nanoparticles.
