  • Accurate radiation dosimetric characters is very important to determine of dose to a radiotherapeutic patient. Medical linear accelerators have been developed not only its new quality of convenient operation but also electric moderation. It is reliable to measure more detail physical parameter that linac's internal ability. Typically, radiation dosimetric tool is classified ionization chamber, film, thermoluminescence dosimeter, etc. Nowaday, Electronic Portal Imaging Device is smeared in radiation field to verification of treatment region. EPID's image was focused that using both on-line image verification and absolutely minimum absorbed dose during radiotherapy. So, Electronic Portal Imaging was tested for quality evaluation of medical linear accelerator had its pure conditional flash. This study has performed symmetry, Light/Radiation field congruence, and energy check, geometry difference on wedge filter using a liquid filled ion chamber (EPID). Prior to irradiated on EPID, high energy photon beam is checked with ion chamber. Using these results more convenient dosimetric method is accomplished by EPID that taken digital image. Medical image is acquired with EPID too. Therefore, EPID can be analyzed by numerical information for what want to see or get more knowledge for natural human condition.

  • The absolute absorbed dose can be determined according to the measurement conditions ; measurement material, detector, energy and calibration protocols. The purpose of this study is to compare the absolute absorbed dose due to the differences of measurement condition and calibration protocols for photon beams. Dosimetric measurements were performed with a farmer type PTW and NEL ionization chambers in water, solid water, and polystyrene phantoms using 6MV photon beams from Siemens linear accelerator. Measurements were made along the central axis of $10{\times}10cm$ field size for constant target to surface distance of 100cm for water, solid water and polystyrene phantom. Theoretical absorbed dose intercomparisons between TG21 and IAEA protocol were performed for various measurement combinations on phantom, ion chamber, and electrometer. There were no significant differences of absorbed dose value between TG2l and IAEA protocol. The differences between two protocols are within $1\%\;while\;the\;average\;value\;of\;IAEA\;protocol\;was\;0.5\%$ smaller than TG2l protocol. For the purpose of comparison, all the relative absorbed dose were nomalized to NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer and water phantom, The average differences are within $1\%,\;but\;individual\;discrepancies\;are\;in\;the\;range\;of\;-2.5\%\;to\;1.2\%$ depending upon the choice of measurement combination. The largest discrepancy of $-25\%$ was observed when NEL ion chamber with Keithley electrometer is used in solid water phantom. The main cause for this discrepancy is due to the use of same parameters of stopping power, absorption coefficient, etc. as used in water phantom. It should be mentioned that the solid water phantom is not recommended for absolute dose calibration as the alternative of water, since absorbed dose show some dependency on phantom material other than water. In conclusion, the trend of variation was not much dependent on calibration protocol. However, It shows that absorbed dose could be affected by phantom material other than water.

  • The aim of this study is to introduce the accuracy of Ir-192 source's apparent activity using the well-type chamber and the Farmer-type ionization chamber in the high dose rate brachytherapy. We measured the apparent activity of Ir-192 that each medical center in the country has and the apparent activity of calibration certificate provided by manufacturer is compared with that by our experimental measurement. The number of sources used for the activity comparison was 5. The accuracy of the measured activity was in the range of -2.8% to -1.0% and -2.1% to 0.2% for the Farmer-type chamber system (Jig) and for the well-type, respectively. The maximum difference was within 1.0% for comparison with two calibration's tool. Our results demonstrate that well-type chamber as wall as Farmer-type chamber is a appropriate system as the routine source calibration procedures in HDR brachytherapy. Whenever a new source is installed to use in clinics, by periods, a source calibration should be carried out.

  • The activity of Ir-192 sources for high dose rate (HDR) Brachytherapy in Korea were measured by using the well-type chamber and using the calibration Jig with the Farmer-type ionization chamber to compare the manufacturer certificated source strength which is supplied with each new Ir-192 source. The activity of two different source models used in six hospitals were measured. The range of measured activities to the manufacturer's suggested ones was -2.40% to +3.31% for the calibration Jig and -3.12% to 0.00% for the well-type chamber system. The source strength values given by the manufacturer for the 6 sources were within ${\pm}5%$ for the two different measuring equipment. Our results demonstrate that well-type chamber as wall as Farmer-type chamber system are appropriate system for the routine source calibration procedures in HDR brachytherapy. Whenever a new source is installed to use in clinics, a source calibration should be carried out.

  • A pair of insulated-gate metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor has been used to measure the direct current produced from the ionization chamber in the range of to A. An analisis of direct-current differential amplifier giving the expressions of the common-mode rejection ratio and the rralization of the constant-current generator to give very large effective source resistance has been presented. Voltage gain is 6.6, drift at the room temperature is 1.5mv per day. The common-mode rejection ratio is obtained maximum 84db. These facts give the feasibility of small direct-current measurements by utilizing this type transistors.

  • Low frequency(<100Hz) weak magnetic field(<20gauss) is applied axially to an inductively coupled oxygen plasma(ICP), and its plasma characteristics are monitored by OES(Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and Langmuir probe. It is found that periodic magnetic field enhances ashing rate by 25% and improves its uniformity upto 4.5% over 8" wafer. From electron energy distribution function, both low and high energy electrons are identified and relative abundancy is found to be controlled by the applied frequency. Moreover, it is observed that ionization and dissociation species are varied with applied frequency. We insert an aluminium baffle in the chamber to get better uniformity and less plasma damage.

  • We present a simple analytical expression of plasma density by making use of the electron density equation to study the dynamic behavior of the corona discharge plasma. It assumes that a specified voltage profile is fed through the inner conductor of the reactor chamber consisting of two coaxial conducting cylinders. The analytical description is based on the electron continuity equation with ionization and attachment by electrons. It is found that the electron density profile calculated between two coaxial cylindrical electrodes depends very sensitively on the Profile of applied voltage. The analytical expression of plasma density and its generation will provide important scaling laws in the corona discharge plasma.

  • In the 7th Steering Committee Meeting held in November 1986 in Suba, Fiji, the steering committee made a decision that the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) coordinates the program of the regional intercomparison of ionizing radiation measurement. Through mutual communications with the Radiation Laboratory at KRISS, five countries (Australia, China, India, Japan and Malaysia) agreed to participate in the X-ray dosimetry standards intercomparison under the auspices of KRISS.

  • A Klystron powered dual photon energy electron linear accelerator 2300 C/D from Varian Associates has been installed in our center. From the radiological safety view as well as treatment planning, the output (contamination) of Bremsstrahlung Radiation with electron beam energy determined accurately. It has been found 0.5% to 4.7% with increasing the electron beam energy which is the clinically not much significant in the treatment of the malignant diseases with the treatment of electron beam.

  • This paper describes the spot scanning with $^{11}$ C beams for the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC). The concave-shaped irradiation field was optimized and the dose distribution was measured by 128-ch ionization chamber. Because of the wide momentum spread inherent in $^{11}$ C beams, the dispersion caused from the beam line and the scanning magnets should be taken into account to calculate the dose distribution of $^{11}$ C beams and their irradiated field. The reconstructed dose distribution is in good agreement with the experimental results.
