VOCs from the heat recovery ventilation system (total heat exchanger) are measured in this study. Two different types of element (L and M type) from heat recovery ventilating system are tested to study the intial release characteristics of VOCs under KS cooling and heating standard conditions. VOCs are measured for the various flow rates and different operating times. Considering errors in the test method and the measuring instrument, the tested heat recovery ventilating systems was found to release 6 major VOCs, such as acetic acid, 2-butanone (MEK), 2-(methylthio )ethylamine, toluene, styrene, and x-acids (Ion 57). The concentrations of released VOCs are not quite much affected by operating conditions. The results show much larger VOCs concentrations in the cooling mode than in the heating mode, due to the high operating temperatures.

Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate fluoride release and the micro-shear bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) in casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP)-remineralized caries-affected dentin (CAD). Materials and Methods: Exposed dentin surfaces of 30 human third molar teeth were divided into 2 equal groups for evaluating fluoride release and the micro-shear bond strength of RMGIC to CAD. Each group was subdivided into 3 equal subgroups: 1) control (sound dentin); 2) artificially demineralized dentin (CAD); 3) CPP-ACP remineralized dentin (remineralized CAD). To measure fluoride release, 15 disc-shaped specimens of RMGIC (4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) were bonded on one flat surface of the dentin discs of each group. Fluoride release was tested using ion chromatography at different intervals; 24 hours, 3, 5, 7 days. RMGIC micro-cylinders were built on the flat dentin surface of the 15 discs, which were prepared according to the assigned group. Micro-shear bond strength was measured after 24 hours water storage. Data were analyzed using 1- and 2-way analysis of variance and the post hoc least significant difference test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: Fluoride detected in solutions (at all intervals) and the micro-shear bond strength of RMGIC bonded to CPP-ACP-remineralized dentin were significantly higher than those bonded to artificial CAD (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Demineralized CAD consumes more fluoride released from RMGIC into the solution for remineralization than CPP-ACP mineralized dentin does. CPP-ACP increases the micro-shear bond strength of RMGIC to CAD.
A further purified fraction (D-O-ANa) was obtained from DPG 3-2 fraction of Ginseng Radix by complete removal of saponins, nucleosides, nucleic acid bases, amino acids, and sugars. D-O-ANa - induced insulin release was investigated to compare with that of DPG 3-2 and other isolated components. Among the sub fractions of DPG 3-2, D-O-ANa exhibited the most potent release of insulin with or without high concentrations of glucose, and it particularly enhanced the second phase of glucose-induced insulin release. DGP 3-2 potentiated significantly the glucose-induced insulin release from the isolated islets of diabetic mice at increasing concentrations of extracellular calcium ions (0.16 - 2.5 mM). A definite relationship was found between calcium $(^{45}Ca)$ uptake and insulin release. Ginsenoside $(G)-Rb_1\;and\;G-Rg_1$ did not enhance the glucose-induced insulin release. The effect of ginseng saponins was blocked by glucose (16.7 mM), being distinctly different from the glucose-potentiated effect of DPG 3-2. The insulin release effect of $G-Rg_1$ was unaffected by the presence or absence of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ and theophylline. Adenosine also increased insulin release from isolated islets, but had no effect on perfused rat pancreas. Arginine stimulated insulin release less evidently than D-O-ANa, though arginineand adenosine-induced glucagon releases were more remarkable. In conclusion, D-O-ANa appears to be a major fraction in insulin release activity of ginseng and its mode of action may be related to $Ca^{2+}$ ion uptake. This physiological mechanism was distinct from that of the abnormal release induced by ginseng saponins.
Thyroid function is mainly regulated through cAMP and phophatidylinositol, and it is well known that TSH-stimulated thyroxine ($T_4$) release is inhibited by catecholamine from mouse thyroids via the ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor stimulation. Previous study has established that the inhibition of $T_4$ release by ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor stimulation results in activated protein kinase C (PKC). The purpose of this study was to determine if ion transport systems are involved in the inhibition of $T_4$ release elicited by ${\alpha}_1$-adrenergic agonist in mouse thyroids. TSH-, IBMX- and cAMP analogue-stimulated $T_4$ release were significantly inhibited by methoxamine, R59022 (diacylglycerol kinase inhibitor), and MDL (adenylate cyclase inhibitor). TSH-stimulated $T_4$ release could be inhibited by Bay K 8644 and cyclopiazoic acid, but not by verapamil and tetrodotoxin. The addition of nifedipine ($Ca^{2+}$ channel blocker), tetrodotoxin and lidocaine ($Na^+$ channel blockers), but not amiloride (EIPA) and ryanodine, completely blocked the inhibitory effects of methoxamine on $T_4$ release. TSH-stimulated $T_4$ release was also inhibited by benzamil ($Na^+-Ca^{2+}$ exchange inhibitor). TSH-, IBMX- and cAMP-stimulated $T_4$ release were inhibited by methoxamine or R59022, these effects were reversed by nifedipine. but not by verapamil. Furthermore, nifedipine reversed the inhibitory effects of benzamil and R59022 on TSH-stimulated $T_4$ release. These data suggest that the observed ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor-mediated inhibition of $T_4$ release in mouse thyroids is the result of an increase in intracellular $Na^+$ or $Ca^{2+}$ effected via activation of fast $Na^+$ or nifedipine-sensitive $Ca^{2+}$ channels, and that $Na^+-Ca^{2+}$ exchange may play an important role in reducing thyroid hormone by increasing intracellular $Ca^{2+}$.

In this study, we analyzed the release differences for some critical pollution compounds according to the surrounding conditions in order to predict water quality due to the sedimental releases and the release characteristics at different sedimental locations in Lake Leewon, in Tae-An area. COD, nitrogens and phosphates were analyzed using the standard methods for water quality, based on high chloride ion concentration(greater than 2,000 ppm). For COD, the release rate increased in the anoxic basin but almost the same in the oxic basin. For $NH_3$-N, the release rate decreased in the oxic basin as you go A through C point meanwhile, for $NO_3$-N and T-N, the tendency was reversed because of nitrification of them. In the anoxic basin, the release rates of $NH_3$-N and $NO_3$-N went up with A through C path. However, the release rate of T-N was found to decrease. Also, for $PO_4$-P and T-P, the release rates in the oxic basin were lowest at B point mainly because the phosphates were at less released in the highly $O_2$ concentrated environment. In the anoxic reactor, $PO_4$-P was released similarly regardless of the sampling points. In summary, the release rates in the oxic reactor were greater than those in the anoxic reactor for COD and $NO_3$-N. For the other components, the anoxic basin generated the higher release rates.

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, HAP) particles have attracted a great deal of attention in biomedical fields due to their good biocompatibility, bioactivity and fairly broad applications as drug delivery, dental implant, bone cement, and etc. Thus, many researchers have made an effort to add new functionalities such as luminescence, drug delivery, and bone regeneration properties up to HAP powders by controlling their nanostructure as well as composition. In this research, the mesoporous strontium substituted HAP (Sr-HAP) microspheres were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. In this synthesis, aspartic acid monomers were utilized to form microsphere by controlling surface energy of HAP particles and Sr ions were substituted into Ca ion sites, which induced luminescence property in HAP powders. Moreover, the change in the amount of Sr substitution was found to influence the particle size, morphology, and concurrently surface area, which led to changing drug loading as well as drug release property. The amount of Sr influences the morphology, luminescent properties, particle size, surface area cell viability and drug loading property, which are investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, BET, XPS and in vitro test such as MTT assay and drug release test. In particular, the multifunctional Sr-HAP with molar ratios of 0.25 (Sr/(Ca+Sr)) possessed the strongest luminescent property as well as the superior drug loading and sustained release properties that were correspondent with large surface area and pore size. Our study indicates that the fabricated multifunctional Sr-HAP microspheres are quite useful for bone regeneration and drug delivery.

The aim of this study was to compare the compressive strength and amount of fluoride-release of recently developed giomers (Beautifil Flow Plus F00, Beautifil Flow Plus F03), conventional giomer, resin-modified glass ionomer and composite resin. Fifteen cylindrical specimens for each group were prepared to measure fluoride release. It was measured using pH/ISE meter and fluoride ion electrode every 24 hours for the first 7 days and every 72 hours until the 31st day. Also, fifteen cylindrical specimens for each group after thermocycling were prepared to measure compressive strength. The universal testing machine (Kyung-sung Testing Machine Co., Korea) was used and the crosshead speed was 1 mm/min. Recently developed giomers showed more fluoride release and higher compressive strength than conventional giomer. It would be a good alternative to composite resin.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the fluoride release of conventional glass ionomer cements (GICs) and resin-modified GICs. Materials and Methods: The cements were grouped as follows: G1 (Vidrion R, SS White), G2 (Vitro Fil, DFL), G3 (Vitro Molar, DFL), G4 (Bioglass R, Biodinamica), and G5 (Ketac Fil, 3M ESPE), as conventional GICs, and G6 (Vitremer, 3M ESPE), G7 (Vitro Fil LC, DFL), and G8 (Resiglass, Biodinamica) as resin-modified GICs. Six specimens (8.60 mm in diameter; 1.65 mm in thickness) of each material were prepared using a stainless steel mold. The specimens were immersed in a demineralizing solution (pH 4.3) for 6 hr and a remineralizing solution (pH 7.0) for 18 hr a day. The fluoride ions were measured for 15 days. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test with 5% significance were applied. Results: The highest amounts of fluoride release were found during the first 24 hr for all cements, decreasing abruptly on day 2, and reaching gradually decreasing levels on day 7. Based on these results, the decreasing scale of fluoride release was as follows: G2 > G3 > G8 = G4 = G7 > G6 = G1 > G5 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: There were wide variations among the materials in terms of the cumulative amount of fluoride ion released, and the amount of fluoride release could not be attributed to the category of cement, that is, conventional GICs or resin-modified GICs.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the tensile bond strength of In-Ceram alumina core treat-ed by ion assisted reaction(IAR). Ion assisted reaction is a prospective surface modification technique without damage by a keV low energy ion beam irradiation in reactive gas environments or reactive ion itself. 120 In-Ceram specimens were fabricated according to manufacturer's directions and divided into six groups by surface treatment methods of In-Ceram alumina core. SD group(control group): sandblasting SL group: sandblasting + silane treatment SC group: sandblasting + Siloc treatment IAR I group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with argon ion and oxygen gas IAR II group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion and oxygen gas IAR III group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion only For measuring of tensile bond strength, pairs of specimens within a group were bonded with Panavia 21 resin cement using special device secured that the film thickness was $80{\mu}m$. The results of tensile strength were statistically analyzed with the SPSS release version 8.0 programs. Physical change like surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core treated by ion assistad reaction was evaluated by Contact Angle Measurement, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy; chemical surface change was evaluated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The results as follows: 1. In tensile bond strength, there were no statistically significant differences with SC group, IAR groups and SL group except control group(P<0.05). 2. Contact angle measurement showed that wettability of In-Ceram alumina core was enhanced after IAR treatment. 3. SEM and AFM showed that surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core was not changed after IAR treatment. 4. XPS showed that IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core was enabled to create a new functional layer. A keV IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core could enhanced tensile bond strength with resin cement. In the future, this ion assisted reaction may be used effectively in various dental materials as well as in In-Ceram to promote the bond strength to natural tooth structure.

The current study aimed to compare the pH, solubility value, and ion release capability of premixed mineral trioxide aggregates (MTAs) versus conventional pulp capping materials before and after setting. The following materials were used: resin-modified calcium silicate cement (TheraCal LC®, TLC), resin-modified calcium hydroxide cement (Ultra-BlendTM plus, UBP), and 2 kinds of premixed MTA (Endocem MTA® premixed regular [EMPR] and Well-RootTM PT [WRP]). The specimens of each material were prepared before and after setting and were immersed in distilled water. The materials' pH and solubility value were assessed. Next, three kinds of ion (calcium, sulfide, and strontium) released by pulp capping materials were evaluated via inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. In the after-setting group, the pH of TLC and UBP decreased. However, the pH of the premixed MTAs increased with time. TLC released a higher concentration of strontium ion compared with the other materials. Meanwhile, EMPR released a significantly high concentration of sulfide ion (p < 0.05). In the after-setting group, the 2 kinds of premixed MTAs released a significantly higher concentration of calcium ion compared with the other materials (p < 0.05). In the after-setting group, EMPR had a significantly low solubility value (p < 0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction, was used in statistical analysis. In conclusion, resin-modified calcium silicate cement, modified calcium hydroxide cement, and the 2 kinds of premixed MTAs had an alkaline pH and low solubility value and they released various concentrations of ions after setting.
