  • The dissolution amount of Zn plate was $0.058mg/cm^2$ in the non-magnetically treated solution, and was $0.059mg/cm^2$ in the magnetically treated solution after 24 hours of immersion. The magnetic treatment had no effect to corrosion of Zn plate as pH on surface was not recognized the difference. The addition of Zn(II) ion in the solution was prepared to the effects of corrosion and dissolution of Fe. The regularity was not obtained the effect of the magnetic treatment on the dissolution of Fe plate.

  • The application of focused ion beam(FIB) technology has been broadened in the fabrication of nanoscale regime. The extended application of FIB is dependent on complicated reciprocal relation of operating parameters. It is necessary for successful and efficient modifications on the surface of silicon substrate. The primary effect by Gaussian beam intensity is significantly shown from various aperture size, accelerating voltage, and beam current. Also, the secondary effect of other process factors - dwell time, pixel interval, scan mode, and pattern size has affected to etching results. For the process analysis, influence of the secondary factors on FIB micromilling process is examined with respect to sputtering depth during the milling process in silicon material. The results are analyzed by the ratio of signal to noise obtained using design of experiment in each parameter.

  • The ion adsorption on an aligning layer deposited onto a conductive electrode in a liquid crystal (LC) cell has been shown to depend strongly on the dielectric constants of the layer and its thickness d. Calculations made in the framework of the three-layer electrostatic theory showed that, depending on those and other intrinsic parameter of the problems, it is possible to observe either ion attraction or repulsion at the aligning surface. Tentative measurements of the ion adsorption dynamics on the aligning layers with various d qualitatively agree with the theory. The results obtained allow the memory effect in LCs and the sticking effect in LC displays (LCDs) to be controlled effectively.

  • The effect of the addition of helium, neon, argon and xenon on the production of negative hydrogen ions has been studied in a magnetically confined dc filament discharge. The addition of helium and neon produced effects similar to an equivalent increase in hydrogen pressure. However, the addition of argon and low fractions of xenon produced significant increases in the negative ion density for hydrogen at pressures around 1 mTorr. The addition of argon and xenon, by increasing electron density and decreasing electron temperature, achieved conditions closer to optimum for negative ion production. The largest enhancement of negative hydrogen ion density occurred with the addition of argon; it is suggested that this is due to a resonant energy exchange between excited argon atoms and hydrogen molecules.

  • Coloring effect, mechanical properties resulting from silver ions exchange of glasses immersed into the mixed molten salt of KNO3 and AgNO3 were investigated in this study. Ion exchange coloring of glasses made it possible to obtain glasses with a range from yellow to yellowish-brown, and spectral transmittance was investigated. The amount of ion exchange and peneration depth increased with treatment temperature and time. The activation energy decreased with mole fraction of AgNO3. It can be seem that the bending strength of ion exchanged glasses were 3~4 times higher than the parent glass and Ag+ colloids prevented from increasing surface microhardness.

  • The effects of electrolytes on electrochemical behavior from an oil thin layer interposed between a graphite electrode and an aqueous solution phase were examined. A hydrophobic electroactive species, tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (TCQ), in a benzonitrile (EN) layer was employed to study ion transfer properties across the BN-water interface. Experimental results showed that hydrophobic cations as well as anions could be successfully used as ionic charge carriers. The addition of various salts into either the oil layers or the aqueous solutions offers deeper insight for the electrochemistry of the liquid thin layer system. When aqueous perchloric acid is interfaced with the BN films, the perchlorate ion of tetrahexylammonium perchlorate (THAP) substantially suppresses the dissociated proton concentration in the layer by the common ion effect while there is only a little change in the total acid concentration. Further approach by theoretical calculation makes it possible to quantitatively understand the effect of the electrolytes to the electrochemical responses of TCQ, which were previously reported (Anal. Chem. 73, 337 (2001)).

  • In this paper, salt damage resistance of high durable concrete was tested. High durable concrete was made by using low water cement ratio, chemical admixture called super-durable admixture and mineral admixtures such as fly-ash, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, silica fume. Two kinds of salt damage resistance test were carried out. One method is chloride ion penetration test(ASTM C1202), and the other one is depth of chloride penetration test in saline solution. Test results were as followers: 1) The depth of chloride ion penetration increased exponentially as water cement ratio was increased and time passed. 2) Super-durable admixture had little effect on the improvement of salt damage resistance of concrete. 3) Silica fume and ground granulated blast-furnace slag were effective on salt damage resistance because of pozzolanic reaction, but fly-ash had a little effect.

  • This study was done to determine the effect of lead acetate on the activities of the hepatic cytosofic xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase which were well known as oxygen free radical generating enzyme in vitro. Lead ion accelerated the formation of lipid peroxide and the increment of xanthine oxidase(type O) activity and the type conversion ratio from xanthine dehydrogenase to xanthine oxidase dose-dependently. But xanthine dehydrogenase(type D) activity was decreased. Aldehyde oxidase activity was not changed by lead ion. These data suggested that lead-induced cellular to)dcity may be concerned partially with xanthine oxidase mediated lipid peroxidation.

  • In this article, the properties of ${CO_2}^+(CO_2)_n$ clusters in a Paul ion trap have been investigated using mass-selective instability mode which conducted by chosen precursor ions, mainly $Ar^+$ and ${CO_2}^+$ produced by a mixture of Ar and $CO_2$. Exposure of ${CO_2}^+$ ions to $CO_2$ molecules, lead to the formation of ${CO_2}^+(CO_2)_n$ clusters. Here, Ar gas react as a buffer gas and lead to form ${CO_2}^+(CO_2)_n$ cluster by collisional effect.

  • We studied the effect of Fe ion irradiation on the upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) of 410 nm single-crystalline $MgB_2$ thin films. The irradiation energy was fixed at 140 keV when we increased the irradiation doses from $1{\times}10^{14}ion/cm^2$ to $4{\times}10^{14}ion/cm^2$. We found that $H_{c2}$ significantly increase with increasing irradiation dose, despite the low irradiation energy. The enhancement of $H_{c2}$ could be explained by the reduction of electron mean free path caused by defects induced from irradiation, leading to a decrease of coherence length (${\xi}$). We also discussed the effect of irradiation on temperature-dependent resistivity in details.
